Ryan or The Hunter, as he is known these days, was a former navy captain in the Dutch Royal Navy. Since his 20th birthday he had been a marine and low rank officer within the navy. In later stages of his carreer Ryan was promoted to captain of the HNLMS De Zeven Provinciën frigate. When the outbreak started Ryan was send to lead a taskforce that would pick up dutch nationals from various african nations as well as from Turkey, where a few hundred dutch were residing. The first part of his mission went well as he and his fleet managed to secure over 300 dutch nationals and send them to the secure camps back home. His family was with him, affraid of them being in harms way back home. But the mission to Turkey proved disastrous.... late at night Parker ordered a team of marines to scout the beachhead where the nationals would be picked up the morning after. Half an hour into the mission communications with the ground team where lost, causing Ryan to become increasingly worried. But before he could determine his next move disaster struck. A warship, believed to be of the former Turkish fleet which was considered to be decimated, launched its armaments upon the dutch ship. Several small boats some filled with men and others with explosives hit the ship from several directions. The limited amount of weaponry on the ships caused many to panic and scramble as much equipment as they possible could to defend themselves. Several of the dead came back to life during the hours long fight, causing a massive outbreak onboard of the ship themselves. After 4 hours of fighting Ryan, a handfull of his marines and his wife and son where trapped on the command center of the ship, unable to go anywhere. The bandits had left, but the dead where everywhere by now and eventually, they broke through the reinforced door of the center. Killing two of the remaining marines instantly as they tried to hold the door. His son, trying to hide under a desk, was bitten in the arm and neck. Ryan was mortified as he saw his son being eaten alive. His wife, trying to save their son, jumped towards him and tried to kick off the dead. Ryan, knowing where this would lead tried to stop her but without success. His wife was also bit and fell to the ground as countless of dead swarmed the center. Ryan, struck with grief, ran to the unprotected glass at the side of the center. While he wanted to die there due to the death of his family, he somehow couldnt get himself to give up, he destroyed the glass and proceeded to jump into the cold water of the black sea. Days later he would wash up on the shores of georgia. Devastated both physically and mentally. For months he lived of the land there, surviving the elements and occasionally killing one of the dead. He had lost everything his family, friends and men. His hatred for banditry and lawlessness only grew as the time went on, feeling like that is what killed his family. After 2 years of living on the lands of georgia he was determined to make things right. Moving to eventually end up in Chernarus.
