  1. hello and thanks for the answer Red. i guess i will just have to try it a bit on public servers to get myself used to the game again but at least the items arent ruined as fast anymore, that is at least some improvement. for the other points, i will wait and see if i can work with it or not. thanks for the friendly welcome though
  2. hello there peeps. i havent really been here for a long long time, actually, shortly after the servers switched to the dayz standalone i think. anyway, a little bit of a "warning", the next paragraphs may sound a bit frustrated about the standalone in general so yeah, if you don't want to hear it, skip it well, recently i have been thinking about coming back to dayz standalone in general and dayzRP specifically, although i had stopped playing because of how disappointed i was with the standalone and the way it went, despite its potential, my expectations and my love for the mod.(mind you that i got around 100hours in the standalone) so yeah, here i am, wondering how the state of the game is nowadays and if if would offer a nice foundation for a roleplay setting for myself. well then, a few questions that arised for me: 1.) how is the loot situation ingame? can (private)servers now change the settings of loot spawn/distribution and the like? what really annoyed me, especially from the roleplaying aspect, was that food was way too scarced back when i played the standalone, while weapons you could find in an overabundance(kind of), at least low tier weapons. also, the last i heard, the most reliably source of food on the coast/for fresh spawns where apple trees or chickens, which really restricts the character creation by a lot in my opinion(i played a vegetarian/vegan character back in the days of dayzrp). i don't see the gain of forcing every player more inlands/north, unlike the devs of the standalone seem to. 2.) are the zombies working at least on the level of the mod now? last time i tried, i shot a pistol in the middle of nowhere and despite moving 1km away from where i shot with no zombies inside, i had zombies rushing at me for up to 10 minutes after i shot and changed location and despite me going through several buildings and a forest, what should have broken line of sight, they where coming at me as if they where some heat-seeking missiles. on the other hand, are they a proper addition to the game, do they pose a threat(to at least the degree of those of the mod) both in behavior and numbers? 3.) how is the situation with the item-ruining mechanic? when i played the SA, items where ruined in an instant all over the player character, rendering almost everything you gathered in hours almost useless, even if you survived. and while that really hindered me, as a more friendly player, in my playstyle, people which KoS'ed just didn't care about it, despite the mechanic seemingly being introduced to reduce KoS behavior in the game. did that change to the better now? well, i think thats it so far for my questions. i doubt anyone in this community will remember me(some may from my "mastjerskaja" thread) or that a lot of the people i knew are still playing but if so, heartly greetings to all of them(especially the rangers of course, if you peeps are still around). otherwise, thanks for your time in advance greetz, Joshua

  4. Ok, so i know i posted this story back in 2013 already and it is still somewhere here on the forum-archives but yeah, i reworked the story to fit into the new lore(which i just love and i'm glad it got pulled off) and to correct quite a few grammatical/spelling errors. --------------------------------------------- As i go in-game by the name Joshua Norton(spelled in the english way, even with his backround story showing a different origin), i will put a short description of his backround story here. Name: Joshua Norton Country: Germany Age: 26 Interests: Discordianism, Anarchism Joshua Norton was born and raised in a small town in the eastern part of germany and got bored of the landscape and the people really quick after he turned 14. His family was a almost typically well situated middle-class one of the society with everything what that means, like a own house, two cars, a pool and such luxury "needings". He, whatsoever, found out really quick that this wasn't the life he wanted to live, so he left the house of his parents when a few weeks after his 16. brithday. Since then he lived at the places of friends or together with them in flats they squatted and got in a more tense contact with the idea of anarchism. They dumpstered their food from the supermarkets around them and went to demonstrations as well as to punk-concerts in the city. After some years, Joshua decided to turn his back on germany and hired up on a small trading ship from eastern europe. He worked there for a half year when his ship, the Balalaika, arrived at the Chernogorsk habor to deliver some goods. This was 3 days before martial law was declared and outbreak of the virus got public, it was October the 18. The Balalaika wanted to stay only for a short time, "Two days i will stay in that shithole of city, not more!" as captain Alexandrejowitsch announced it to the crew when they arrived in Chernogorsk. Eventually they managed to convince him to have at least a few hours to go on land and, since they finished their work really quick, Captain Alexandrejowitsch was in a good mood. Due to a broken engine however, they couldn't leave as planned and the ship was forced to stay two days longer. On the same days as the news arrived in the habor that strange things happening in the north-east of chernarus, armed military personel in biohazard-clothings, one officer and about ten soldiers, showed up at the ship and wanted to speak to the captain in privat. He showed the officer to follow him to his cabin and while he did so, followed by two armed men, the other soldiers took position on the pier, as did others on other ships in the habor. The crew, curious what all that was about, sneeked to the windows of the captains cabin and listened to the conversation. They managed to hear some pieces of sentences and words like "...under quarantine until further notice..." and "...don't leave the ship, the guards have the order to shoot...". After the captain and the officer finished, the officer left the cabin and the ship quickly, leaving Captain Alexandrojewitsch back in his cabin, low spirited by the worst news he ever expierenced. He was about to open a very expensive bottle of vodka, wich he bought back in Saint Petersburg, as his crew entered. "Sit down, friends!" he ordered them but not with his harsh tone of an old and wise men, wich they got used to over the time, more with the voice of a broken men who lost all hope to see his loved ones again. He then told them the story the officer told him, that all of chernarus was getting locked down, turned into a quarantine zone and no one is to leave the country anymore. He also explained that everyone who is trying to pass the border will be shot without a warning, the same for planes and ships trying to leave chernarus. Hell, that even the guards of the habor were having the order to shoot them, should they try to leave the ship and that they were not allowed to show up on the deck. After this, they were all disturbed by the news and even more since no one heared anything of how long this situation would last. Back then they didn't know. They didn't know it would only getting worse. In the evening of the second day of the quarantine, they heared some explosions, coming from the international hotel in the middle of chernogorsk. As they where curious about the situation, they risked a look and got outside on the deck. It was by then one of them discovered that the guards were gone and they decided to not leave the ship instead try to getting the engine running again to leave the place. They started to work and Joshua was ordered to get to the radio to try to catch everything of interest. He did. And he wished he never would have heard it. It was a broadcast of a local radio station, claiming that there is a lethal, fast spreading virus in chernarus and that the infected people are acting like dogs infected with raving madness. It also sayed that they should avoid under every cost to get bitten or touched by one of the infected humans. The moderator was also telling at the end of broadcast, that lethal force will be used against everyone who is trying to leave the country, just as Alexandrojewitsch was telling. Joshua went to the others, to tell them about the broadcast and they sat together to decide what to do next and to listen to what Joshua told about the broadcast...except for the captain wich had locked himself in his cabin, since the officer left. After Joshua finished, they heared a moaning in the door and turned in the direction just to see captain Alexandrojewitsch standing there, leaning on the door and loosing all faith they would ever get out of there alive and back to their families. He turned around and went back to his cabin, leaving his crew paralyzed over the appearently emotionless reaction of their captain. One of them, his name was Pavel, decided to went after the captain to convince him to help them. Just after he stood up from his chair, they heared something that sounde like a gunshot, coming from the captain's cabin and after it, the muffled sound of something falling to the ground. Everyone knew instantly that the captain had just shot himself and they remained still for minutes. After they decided to put their captain to rest in the old maritime way, they trew his body into the cold, dark water of the habor. They then liften the ramp to the pier and begun the preparations for leaving the harbor. Two hours later, they were almost finished with repairing, a person showed up on the pier, asking for help from afar. While he came closer, they realised he carried a small girl in his arms, not older then seven or eight years, which seemed to be asleep. He said his name was Ilja and that he had a family member right down south on the coast, after the border. It was their idea to travel in that direction since the bigger cities of chernarus are the coast up north-east and to have a person who knows the coast would be an advantage as they would have to stick close to the coastline, so the navy ships would not spot them. So they decided to take him and his daughter, her name was Alina, on board. Ilja was very helpful indeed and together they managed to fix up the engine finally in a half hour, while Alina was sleeping in a cabin, exhausted from the recent events as it seems. When they were leaving the habor of chernarus and the lights of the city getting smaller, they were all happy that they managed it and would be home soon. At least they thought so. Ilja didn't told the whole truth and soon after they discovered that in a bad way. They already were long passing Kamenka, when Pavel decided to bring Ilja and Alina some food since, Ilja was very quick to get back to his daughter when they left Chernogorsk. Joshua was going with him for a short part of the way, to get to his cabin and rest a bit. When he got inside, he was laying down on his bed without getting out of his clothes and immediatly felt to a deep sleep. It had to be a half or maybe an hour later when he was woken up by someone hammering with his fists against his door, screaming something he couldn't understand while he was still half asleep. Joshua first told him to "fuck off", realising shortly after where he was and what had happend in the last days and that they were in a dangerous situation still. He stood up and walked to his door to open it up, suffering from his short sleep. When he got to the door, he realized that he couldn't understand a word and it wasn't because he was tired or something, but more that the person on the other side was screaming like in a rage and not even trying to speak out a singel word. As he was kind of careful because of his past experiences with riot cops during evictions, trying to enter the squats he was living in, he grabbed a small pipe just to be sure and waited for the one on the other side to loose interest. Well, after ten minutes he did loose it indeed. Joshua waited for five more minutes before he opened his door slowly and as quiet as possible, he looked in the hallway to make sure no one was there. When he turned around to get his stuff, he did see that his whole door was covered in blood and he was so surpised and shocked by that, that a "fuck" slipped out of his mouth, regretting it immediatly as he now heard some noises down the hallway where the messhall was located. He didn't got back into his room, instead began moving quickly in the other direction, around the corner were the cabin was in wich they put Ilja and his daughter. When he was running around the corner of the hallway, he noticed a body was laying in the door from this cabin while he could only see his legs with some black boots on his feet. Joshua remembered that boots, they were Pavels and so were the legs, covered in blood. He built up some kind of friendship with him, since he liked Pavel's way to look at the world and they did find those boots in the streets of amsterdam together and Pavel was really excited about them. It seemed like the reason for Alina to sleep all the time was not that she was exhausted but that she got bitten by one of those bloodthirsty infected. "This virus is fucking quick", Joshua thought while running down the hallway. He reached the next crossing and turned to the bridge to see where they where heading. When he reached the bridge, the door was only leaning and he could see through the small opened door inside the bridge, spotting all the blood and parts of human bodies spread over the floor. He stepped back, shocked from this picture of the remainings of his fellow crew members and stumbled across an ripped off arm on the floor, lost his balance and fall to the ground. This created a lot of noise and what remained of the crew noticed this immediatly. Then the screaming started. A screaming wich waved through the whole ship. Joshua turned around and started to run as fast as he could, trying to reach the deck and maybe one of the rescue boats. When he reached the door to the deck, he risked a look behind him, just to see Alina, Ilja and a few others of the crew chasing him. One of them was missing one arm, most of them were covered with big wholes all over their body and parts of their insides were hanging out and one was even missing a part of his jaw. All of this illuminated by the strange light of the moon and the stars. He regretted it right after. This was the second thing in his life he regretted, all two even in the same hour. When he reached the ceiling, he jumped over it, regardless of what was waiting on the other side. He didn't wanted to die like this. When his feet touched the cold, dark ocean, he felt save. He saw the Balalaika leaving into the wide sea, her crew standing on the deck as undead monsters, screaming into the night after their escaped prey. Joshua begun to swim towards the coast, or at least were he expected to coast to be since it was almost pitch black around him after some clouds were moving in front of the moon. His clothes begun quickly to soak the salty water in and where getting really heavy, making it hard for him to swim at all. On top of that, his body was suffering from hunger and the need to sleep really badly. As the time flew by, it felt like hours for him, he got more and more tired, eventually forgot to swim and finally got overwhelmed by the need to sleep and experiences of the last hours and he lost consciousness. He awoke a few hours later, washed upon the shore of Chernarus, with nothing on him but the will to not die like his friends did.

    New rule changes 2014-10-15

Wow, thanks for that! I hope this will prevent people from using insults to "state their opinion". And Frisia, we had this discussion a while ago and pretty often, what is the point of calling someone a homosexual if he or she isn't homosexual? This way you are using "homosexual" in a negative context, even if it is in your opinion a "friendly joke". And this is just unacceptable at all, even more so in a community wich wants to have nice times together. And don't give me this "argument" of "this is not real problem because it doesn't put your live at danger" because that is just not true. Homophobia or accepting that people referring to homosexuality in a negativ context just leads to more people accepting homophobia as "not that bad" and this will lead to more radical homophobic people thining it is ok or accepting to insult homosexuals just because of their sexual preferences. The same goes for any stupid comments of "human races"(there is only one human race, in case you didn't learn anything in biology). And before you answer to this, i have to ask you if you ever got chased down by a mob of people wanting to beat you up just because they assume you are homosexual or because they don't like the colour of your skin. I and many many of my friends had this happen to us, with several of them were beaten close to death and are still suffering from such behavior so yeah, keep that in mind. Oh and just so you people know, there are also people being killed for being homosexual or "not normal" in countries where there is war, actually even more people getting killed because of that but i doubt any of you arguing it is ok to insult someone with sexual preferences he/she may have, has ever talked to people from these countries.
  7. Despite that some of the sandbags on the containers look a bit weird, this looks a lot different then most of the other camps and i really like the makeshift feeling it has. Hope this goes through.

Do they go into our inventory, or just dont spawn at all? Don't spawn at all. If they go in your inventory, then people will just drop them and defeats the purpose. They will still spawn in buildings and such. That will be a huge problem for clean drinking water and as much as i appreciate any raise performance, the removal of this is kind of bad in my opinion. Could it be at least be made craftable so like, you can craft an empty tincan from any can of food but you loose the food? I really don't like the idea of drinking dirty water and catching an infection all the time just because i don't have an empty tin can :I
  10. have you checkt the video source or the picture? In the video it does even more look out of place. I think i know what to try to archive with the helicopter, like the backstory behind it, with the pilot's body pushing through the cockpit class and falling on the ground but it just doesn't look real. In my opinion the chopper wouldn't have stopped moving on the remainings of the roof(as this kind of roofs are basically just thin metal) but instead would have rammed into the ground. And otherwise, i find it in general strange where people put chopper crashes if they are making camps/map additions. I have seen often chopper wrecks on the roofs of buildings in this forum and for me it never made sense that this chopper would hit exactly this one small spot and stayed there. But thats just me.

    Merging servers, again?

I thought Server 2 will serve as a backup on weekends if needed? Isn't it weekend now? This is the first weekend since the server merger, so we'll be monitoring server traffic over there few days. If the servers are consistantly capping at 70 players, then we will make a judgement call based on popularity as to whether to open an overflow or not. Part of the reason we can't just do it on the fly is that only Rolle can bring the servers up, and its not fair to expect him to be sitting there all day waiting to open server 2, he has a wife and a child after all! We'll need to use this weekend to gather data. Yeah, you are right and i'm sorry for sounding rude. Was just a bit frustrated to see the server full so suddenly after two servers where kind of empty for such a long time. But thanks for clearing things up.

    Merging servers, again?

Not true I know some people that like to play on a quiet server I actually like it too, makes meeting other people more rare but also more exciting and it feels more like an apocalypse in my opinion.
