So if a murderer turns in his firearms, just let him run free an not punish him? We already have gun "buy-back" programs in many of the large cities with the highest gun crime rates, and it has not done anything to lower crime. The only people that turn in their guns are legal owners. In 1994 the president Bill Clinton banned "assault rifles" and crime actually ROSE. That's a fact from the FBI and CDC. Laws do not prevent crime, they are only used for punishment. There is a town in Georgia called Kennesaw which actually passed a law in 1982 that every household must have a firearm (even though it's not enforced), and guess what? The crime rate dropped over 50% and is still going down. It was elected one of the 10 best towns for families. By the way, I respect your opinions, but the US is very different than other countries. We have something called the 2nd Amendment in the Constitution. And if any legislation were to be passed banning firearms, that politician would be impeached for infringing on the peoples rights and the constitution. It's not just as simple as passing a law. You seem to not get the point. NO PUNISHMENT for the weapons. Lets say, 1 Month to turn in the weapons without having a punishment FOR THE WEAPONS. It deos not mean the murder can leave unharmed. the murder has nothing to do with the weapons beeing handed in -.- So let me get this straight, they are going to turn in their firearms that the police do not know they have in the first place, just so they can avoid getting sent to prison for having a firearm that nobody knew they had? If nobody knows they have it, why would they turn it in to avoid going to prison? What's driving them to want to turn it in? Your argument doesn't make sense. Again gun bans here in America only affect the law abiding citizens. Criminals and gangs here will do ANYTHING so they can kill each other. The gang "culture" is very different here. Our justice system is so screwed up here. We have thousands of gun laws already "on the books", but when someone breaks one, they get a slap on the wrist and are out of jail in no time. So when they get out of prison, they just go right back to breaking the law, they don't change. That's where the real problem lies. If we would actually enforce our laws we already have and actually punished people, it would be different. Again, criminals do not follow laws. They simply do not care, that's why they're called "criminals".

The point is, if firearms were ever banned, how many criminals do you think will turn in their guns? None, because it is illegal for a felon to own a firearm in the first place. Or what about a criminal that has a stolen firearm? Do you think they will just walk to the nearest police station to turn in their guns knowing they are going to serve time in a federal prison for being in possession of said firearm? Also, the police only know you have a firearm if you register it. Most people who know nothing about guns think it's illegal to have an unregistered gun, it's not. There are a few cities that actually require you to register your firearm, most states and cities do not. Do you think criminals register theirs so the police know they have it and can confiscate it and send them to prison? So to end my point, the only people with guns would be the criminals and police. The average response time of police in America is around 10 minutes, give or take. The average response time of my Glock 19 is 1200 feet per second. :] Weapon banning would work the same as the SKA bans, give amnesty who gives them away, who isnt is going to be sorted after that. No prison time for those who give them. Every other country had that system andnit works, why should your country be different? America isnt that special. Its average as any other country is. But it seems I can'targue with that gun mentality so I'll just leave that here. So if a murderer turns in his firearms, just let him run free an not punish him? We already have gun "buy-back" programs in many of the large cities with the highest gun crime rates, and it has not done anything to lower crime.
