[spoiler=A Spark of Hope]
A spark of hope
Time goes by. Like people do. Every day is a journey into something new. But one day specifically was something special. That day, surely... was the day a spark was enlightened.
Darkness all over the place. Walking, breathing, looking nervously. When it’s dark outside, it’s dangerous. Sneaking is the best way to survive if you got no shelter for the night. Running steps can be heard. And suddenly, a light, red and something sounds like a flare, what could that be?
Someone’s running across the field with a flare.
The person running is followed by these infected people, only chance the person got would be help, because fighting four of those alone is too hard while holding a flare for light. So running up there and helping was a chance for free. Not being alone anymore.
This is how it started, two guys, Nils and James, meeting each other near Gorka, because of a flare in the night.

A Hard Time
Going alone was never easy. To leave someone was never easy either. But what about a person you’ve just met? Well it had to happen, the ways divide again. One guy going into another direction than the other one. The goodbye was a short one, just a “brother handshake”. One look back and there they go. James is heading back to his temporary shelter. Nils on the other hand is heading back to the NCR embassy at Gorka Police Station.
As James arrives at his shelter, he packs things together and leaves some of the things behind. Now continuing to head to a near town, thinking about the incident again. Time flows fast. As James arrives he cannot read, nor spell the name of the city he came to.
Thinking: “Ah well, time to search for stuff and get out of here.”
After doing what he thought, he goes back on his way. Day after Day, James just does what he does best by now; and had done since this all started. Survive. Now it’s been weeks since the incident and separation of Nils and James. And more weeks go by, more and more. Until finally something happens again. James arrives in a little village he partially remembers. “Gorka?”, he thinks, while seeing a sign with letters he can’t read. The word is short enough though. Suddenly there's one guy coming towards the direction of James. Both have weapons in their hands. A shout can be heard, with a familiar accent: “Oi, easy now!” James remembers that voice, immediately lowering his weapon saying: “Ay, it’s me!”
Nils also remembers the voice of the guy coming towards him. Both walking with their weapon lowered now. After they bump into each other, they make their “brother handshake” again.
“Good to see you fresh and alive my friend!”, can be heard out of James’ mouth.
Now being reunited both of them go on their way into Gorka, where Nils tells James what happened on his side in the time they didn’t see each other. He tells James that, in the NCR they had a few problems with other groups and after the disappearing of the Embers, The Nova Cernoruska Republika fell apart. Simply because of the random attacks and the fact that they had too less men to cover the whole town. But he also made good friends with a few guys from the NCR. Dima Petrovski, Valentin Resnik and guy called Vladimir Bezrukov, or short Vlad, as he said. From the stories he told James, he and Vlad were almost as good friend as they are now. Well, after that he went back to Miroslavl’ the ZBOR capital, he told James. In Miroslavl’ he meet an old friend too. Valentin Řezník the “Lieutenant General of the RZ”. After a few months over there they moved back into South Zagoria but he wasn’t that happy with “the Movement” anymore. All the fights they had with all kinds of people and groups, he just got tired of it. And then he tells him about a moment not too long ago where the guy called Vlad died. He also tells him how he was there, unable to do something while he got killed and how Nils saw that... all of it. So he is even happier to see James still alive, although James notices that he was kind of broken after all these incidents. Anyway, he then tells James that he became a deserter of the ZBOR because he lost the faith in “The Movement”. After all that storytelling they try to get some sleep, because tomorrow they would start a new journey. Two friends roaming through this wasted and broken land.
In some time you will start to make friends with someone you always hang out with. Truly, you yourself experienced that either, haven’t you? Well, in this case it’s James and Nils who made friends. Bumping into other people, seeing new places, even teaching James a bit of the language, so he can at least recognize some city names and not to forget telling stories from “home” or the “past”. So places Nils was calling his “home” in the past were the Colony when they were in Guglovo. Where he lived quite a while and met a few other people like Dr. Lukas Miller that saved his life after he got shot at on the NEAF. Another place Nils call his home was Zelenogorsk when ZBOR was ruling it. James for instance called a lot of things his home too. Firstly, his real home, where his parents were, but these are just memories of the past. Another thing he called home, was back when he was part of ICU. There was always a kind of feeling, something warm, when he stayed with the other guys at the head quarters. Truly, after the dismemberment of the ICU, James just wanted to express the feeling of a home again. But why? Indeed, a home is where you can stay and a home is always a place that should be save. They both told each other their ideas about a some kind of “safe”, “warm” Haven what James dreamed of but also Nils wanted to have again. So they had an idea making a place where you could go to trade but also seek for “refuge”. A place that would bring people together or where people could leave messages for people they seek like lost friends or family. So they were going around still thinking about where they could settle down and make “The Haven”. So after days of searching for a good place they took a rest in a old Lumber Mill near Sinistok. After staying there for a few days it was clear for them the place they just used for resting is a perfect place for them to build “The Haven”.
So after some time, while they had come to the conclusion, that this place could potentially be their ambition “The Haven”, they began to make it a safer place. A first goal and cornerstone for them: Make the place safer. They began to fortify some major holes in the fences. After that they repaired the old gate of the sawmill, as it was pretty much broken. They used some left over timber to repair some things within the hole complex. While they did everything to make “The Haven” a good place, there were people stopping by. Only some, but how do you say: “Something small shall arise to something big.” And so it was. Even more people arrived on some days. Only thing was, that there were some days with emptiness, which could only be filled with work. But there is always something to do. And there will certainly always be.
