  1. Link to the source of punishment (report/post): I have no report to link, as it was a PM informing me of the warning from Majkel. However it was in response to a post on this thread: http://www.dayzrp.com/t-Common-Terms-Report-Charges Why the verdict is not fair: One the first count, Thread Necromancy: The thread in question was one of the guides in the master Guide list, and I had assumed that the rules on thread necromancy might not be relevant to new user information in such a collection. On the second count, Seeking Whitelist Answers: I think there was some sort of misunderstanding. Additional statements/comments explaining your point of view: So for the thread Necro, I had assumed that the guides collected for new users were there for new players like myself to gain a firmer understanding of the rules to avoid situations like these. While I do not deny that the last post was from several months prior, I am just stating my reasoning. If this charge sticks I will accept that, as I have no defense as to whether or not it occurred, but can only offer my reasoning for committing the act. However, the second count is clearly a misunderstanding. The question I had asked was a fairly specific scenario, and asking how it would be treated within the rules laid out in the OP. My whitelist application had already been approved! And the application had been complete, and submitted in full the previous evening (Western NA time zone) about 10-12 hours previous I believe. If by some coincidence, the question I had asked was close to a whitelist question, that is all it is. An unfortunate coincidence. It was not one of my questions, and none of my friends who are starting to put in their applications, had been initiated by the time I asked this VERY specific question. What would you like to achieve with this appeal: For the first charge, I am wiling to accept punishment, though I feel it is a fairly poor way to begin our relationship. I would also note that SEVERAL posts have been added to that thread without repercussion since! The whitelist charges, however, I feel are due to misunderstanding, or perhaps misreading the time stamps on a few things? I would like to see the warning points removed for those. Further, as a new player, trying to make a good impression on a community I already have a great deal of respect for, I feel that having a post reading "USER WAS WARNED FOR THIS POST" is rather damning. If this mess is cleared up in my favor I should like it simply deleted from the thread in question. Perhaps the rules for the new player guides section could be assessed? It seems counter productive to disallow questions from the inquisitive players who are only there to make sure they are adhering to the very rules they are reading about. Finally, I feel the Moderator who issued the warning - Majkel -to have done his duty. I don't feel there should be any kind of repercussion for him. He was helpful in spite of my perceived transgression, pointed me at several resources, and encouraged me to fill out this appeal. A simple misunderstanding is all that has happened here. What could you have done better?: Firstly, I should have used the designated "Questions" Sub-forum. Secondly, I could have looked at the date of the last post BEFORE I hit post, rather than afterward and hastily adding an edit apologizing for the transgression. Now that I know that the guides section is not exempt from necromancy rules, those actions will certainly be used. (though, I had also understood necromancy charges to be levied against new posts that do not bring something new to the conversation, ie newbie questions added in a newbie guide) As to the second charge, apart from the wording of my question perhaps, I can't seem to identify any wrongdoing on my part. I see this section of the charge as a mere misunderstanding. Thank you for your time, - Blackthorne

What's in a Name? (RP Name Guide)

Excellent. Thanks for the quick reply.

What's in a Name? (RP Name Guide)

Coming to your point on military titles, and needing to be a unique name for the purpose of identifying me to the admins, but also keeping with RP - Could I use something like LT.W.Blackthorne? Frankly, William wouldn't fit anyway, and my name is NOT "Will". Most soldiers are of the mindset that their last name is their moniker, and that their new first name is "Private" (or whatever rank they hold) at least to anyone they interact with in a military context (whether allies, enemies, or civilians).
  4. Way ahead of you! I've read a lot of the material (over again) while I wait for my whitelist application to come back. I've also been hopping onto non-RP servers to re-familiarize myself with all controls. I seem to be hard pressed to find any zombies, at least in the few instances I've played this morning. Is the zombie population still running at low levels across the board, or have I just been (un)lucky? I remember that being one of the major detriments to the game at release, I would have hoped some progress had been made there.
  5. Alright. Well, I think this thread may be considered "solved". Thanks for your patience and quick replies. I give you my beans, Sir.
  6. Very good. Thanks again for quick and concise answers. If I could pry just one more from you - What about the fate of hostages. I know that there is no "non-consensual perma-death". And I read the rules about hostages and needing an IC reason before executing them. Can I rest easy if we give the offender a "trial" and they are found to be guilty? I can see such an event being a beautiful RP opportunity for both us AND the bandits.
  7. Understood. Thanks for the clarification. It may be a challenge in some situations, but we will comply. At what point can a "tense situation" be construed as "immediate danger"? Do I have to wait for them to open fire upon us, or can I take flanking maneuvers, or evasive, erratic behaviors as justification? Again, I'm not trying to pry loopholes here. I want to respect the rules of the community. But I also want to come out on top in a standoff, without trading away my initiative.
  8. Thanks, I'm looking forward to fighting for my life. I know some of my ARMA 3 buddies are just as psyched as me.
  9. Hi folks, I'm new here. I've read the rules in full and have submitted my whitelist application, but I will ask one clarification of the rules. I understand "No KoS" easily enough. And I understand the idea that people are to be given an opportunity to respond to "demands" before being attacked. But I also read rather deeply into the line - "Role Play over Rule Play". Some friends and I intend to play together as survivors of the doomed UN task force that was wiped out in Chernagorsk. We intend to be "do-gooders", committed to helping other survivors any way we can, and trying to pull together some semblance of order in the aftermath of this disaster. So, the clarification part - Lets say my men and I are wandering across country, when we see a group of bandits doing "evil deeds". Lets say they are holding up some poor passerby. Now, I understand the rules for inherited KoS rights. But keeping with our RP, would I be within my rights to commence an unannounced assault, given the situation, the role we perceive ourselves to play, and a desire to adhere to role play standards? Again, I'm basing this query off of the line in the rules that Role Play takes precedence over RULE Play. Frankly, our characters would not have any "Demands" for persons who do evil against the innocent. We would seek to intervene, and to dispense justice. Why ask a group of dangerous people to leave someone alone when we can end the standoff with ruthless military precision? I'm not asking for loopholes here, I just have an idea of how we want to play and I want to make sure we don't cross any lines. I should note that I intend to have my men operating on orders to shoot to wound, rather than aim for the kill, but clearly order can break down in the heat of combat. I hope I have placed this in the right section of the forums, if not I apologize. I note that my post was moved, and quite expediently. Sorry for the inconvenience.
  10. Hello all, allow me to introduce myself. I'm Blackthorne, in game I will be going by "1LT W. Blackthorne", a survivor of the nightmare at Chernogorsk when the UN was overrun. I am a member of an ARMA 3 Milsim clan, and several of my comrades have expressed interest in joining me on this endeavor. I haven't played the standalone since the early days, and am looking forward to playing the game in the spirit it was intended. As a small group of UN survivors, you can expect us to do all we can to help survivors we encounter, with a focus on humanitarianism, albeit with a militant approach. I have submitted my whitelist application, and look forward to stepping into the world you have all created. Thanks for having us!
