If 1 hand is up to make the moving of the hostage faster, the hostage takers will have a bigger risk of a radio being used as one hand is up and one hand can technically be used to push a PTT button down. Here are some ideas to reduce the risk of this happening 1. Frisk the hostage for the radio before moving them. That way if you decide to move them with 1 hand up, they won't have a radio to relay information over. 2. Move them with both of their hands up. It may take much longer but definitely stops them from relaying information over radio since their hands up. 3. Move them with 1 hand up to a safe location. Take their radio. Then move them to a different place.

I agree, but disagree at the same time. Lets take a look at this objectively and using your video as reference as well for this particular example. You find yourself in a military base in 'The Triangle' which is a high risk area patrolled by bandits. This is due to the high loot areas of NWAF, Vybor Military base and Tizy if you wish to go that far north. The Triangle is well known for being pretty much the wild west and if traversed alone, you could easily find yourself missing some items and some teeth getting rattled out of your head for your troubles. Lone players and small groups should not feel safe in such area's when large bandit groups roll around with impunity there. Its pretty much like the ocean, you are a single small fish or a small school, a hungry predator fish comes or another school of bigger fish come, they will eat you....though sometimes.... You should never feel safe unless you have fifty killers in the tree's waiting to sweep in to your rescue. Its a dog eat dog world and you occasionally, sometimes, look like a whole snack.

Don't mean to burst your bubble eagle bb but shooting your hostage the moment he shows non-compliance (that isn't life threatening) ends the rp just as quick as running away. The whole point to a rp server is to create interesting story lines that continue and don't end on the "first" meeting. Make an arch nemesis or some shit keep that rp entertaining we're all acting here, but what do I know I'm actually a campfire rper tbh. Stop being a spicy bird boy eagle.

You guys have time and time again impressed. Our last encounter was great with our dynamic. We see one man come out of the woods and start a small bit of RP, small chatter. Then all of a sudden in Kamenici glory, we see a HORDE of gorka/jeans combo come out of the woodworks. It was a helluva sight to see and really shows the presence of the "Nationalists in the Woods" people talk about. Loved the negotiations as well we had and the hilarity that came forth when 2 more of our members end up getting caught looking for us. Stellar RP around from all the members. RP was given to each of us as a hostage and further pushed storylines across the board. Didn't know if we were gonna make it out alive knowing what you guys knew of us but an agreement was made and we limped on out licking our fresh wounds. 10/10 would RP with the Stonemen again.

I disagree. The past was more interesting to you because you were more involved with it. Everyone does this. I look back at the beginning of the Lore Wipe fondly but I can acknowledge it's not half as good as I remember it being, I was just more involved then so I recall it as such. I promise 2016 and 2017 were just the same as they are now, just with different faces and different names. Watch some old footage. Secondly what I never understood was why people don't band together to go after the big mean groups that are making up north a war zone? @Eddie and I had this discussion recently and he said himself that while they tried this and didn't win it was better than sitting on his ass whining about it on the radio and doing nothing about it. And it grew RP for both sides and led to character development. People don't "Have" to hide away. They're choosing to hide away instead of coming up with a plan, furthering RP for both sides, or any other option they had. If i'm being an asshole to people, robbing them, marking them, booting them from their camp I'm not doing that to pleasure myself. I WANT people to come back and do something about it. I want to be able to have that kind of impact on someones character where they get a group together and go out of their way to kick my shit in. The issue in my honest opinion after spending years on both sides of the argument is that while HostileRP can and does go sideways sometimes and can lean too far into straight up PVP territory, the bulk of the blame for "Dead RP" and "Stale RP" rests on the shoulders of those that actively choose to go to those corners of the map and complain about being in a corner of the map. RP and character growth is not handed to one, it needs to be earned. RP is a two way street. All that aside I think that while they definitely shot too fast here and have acknowledged that, they didn't mow you down and did apparently continue to RP with you afterwards and according to them tried to make it an enjoyable experience up until the end. The only issue I see here is someone shot you in the arm too quick, that's about it. But that's just my opinion.

Skimmed through the thread. While it was a mistake on their part, I don’t think this incident is necessarily part of the bigger issue but sheds some light on what is going on. When I first joined hostile RP didn’t always lead to an initiation and firefights or being shot. People keep telling me I’m looking at the past with rose tinted goggles but that’s just not the truth. I don’t want to point fingers or place blame on any one individual or group, but it’s obviously an issue. You shouldn’t have to hide away on certain portions of the map to avoid the endless war zone. It use to be a firefight would happen 1-3 times on a 8 hour play sessions. Now it feels like there’s one pooping off every 15-20 minutes. It’s ridiculous. Some people just want a group of friends to do PvP with the minimim roleplay. I think this mentality is allowed to grow on the forums and spread as well. There shouldn’t be “dank PvP montages” in media threads. Media threads use to be about taking awesome screenshots and showing off your roleplay. Not putting shitty trap music over footage of someone killing a bunch of people.

I like the direction this group has taken recently. Most of my previous complaints with how the RP was conducted and so on and so forth has been drastically improved. Honestly I'm pretty impressed you guys managed to do a complete 180 in a few weeks. Props to you guys.

"Non-compliance" would require extensive refusal to follow demands, not a single middle finger raising. Not the first questionable verdict to come out recently. But yes, apparently the second my hostage raises a middle finger during an initiation I can drop him
  26. 3 likes
I saw this and your report, You've been beaten around a lot ngl. The report verdict, i'm not gonna lie, i thought was a shambles. Yes you stuck up a middle finger, but you were still unarmed, and merely seconds into the initiation. To drop you instantly is far too quick, and a middle finger is not non-compliant enough to warrant just gassing a hostage. Sorry lads, a middle finger isn't a threat to your life. In this situation, you were literally shot the second you turn around and the initiation wasn't even that clear. So yea, shit's gotta be better.

So, regarding a discussion that was made earlier. Among all the cheeky banter, I saw one post that caught my eye in particular. "There is pretty much fuck all to do apart from Rob people/ be a part of a hostile groups or sit around a campfire." Before I even say anything, Traveler, this isn't a jab at you whatsoever, I Dm'd you on discord just to hopefully maybe change your mind or give you some consideration on ideas but this wasn't in a mean spirited way. I just thought I'd expand it here for those who may be agreeing with what he said. I mean, in this sense. There's a wide variety of things you can do that don't limit you to the realm of possibility on this game. While yes, the game PREVENTS you from doing certain things. You have a text chat and you can rp plenty of things at the same time. Roleplay is only limited by the amount of creativity you have, the more people you got for a group/idea. The more you can expand your idea and others in your group toss their own that could help build and feed off the original one. -Outpost RP: People can set up outposts (Which they have before) that can lead to some considerable RP as they have to scavenge for their camp/base and while they're out there they may encounter things or get to know eachother better. -Exploration RP: People who don't know the land could easily set up a form of Cartography around the area, even help those who may be lost to help them learn the layout of the lands -Gearhead RP: So this is branching a bit off from Mechanic RP but to expand on it, yeah. It's true that the cars are all the same on the server, but if you get someone to RP upgrading them or adding cool parts to them. (While you can't actually visually see them. You could describe them.) -Traveling Trader RP: So similar to how some post apoc games have had it. There's certain traders that roam around by foot with a handful of security, they go town to town or you might encounter them on the road. (Yes there's the odd chance they get held up and robbed, which is what adds the risk but it could certainly be fun to encounter a traveling trader with security) -FEMA RP (Or whatever the equivalent to FEMA is in LORE): Going around and taking blood samples from infected and non-infected individuals to help find a cure, could certainly be interesting story progression. While the game never specifically explains the origin, it doesn't hurt to still RP something like this out over a period of time. -Resistance RP: So yes back to hostile RP, there will always be bad guys and good guys. And then the neutral. At some point of another, people will get fed up and will want to take up arms and go up against the bad guys, whether they fail at resisting or not. Don't get discouraged and just keep trying. -Crime Family RP: Just like Russia has the Mafia/Mob. I'm sure there was a form of Criminal Syndicate in Chernarus as well? People could form Crime Family (doesn't mean they would hold people up.) They could push drugs, prostitution (which is what 24th is doing currently for their group goals and it's good to see.), run some kind of gambling scam. Things of the sort. -Slaver/Slave RP: Another prime example that it doesn't need to be rob people. People who come around and capture (whitenames) or even old characters and turn them into slaves. This could certainly result in plenty of fruitful RP. (ie. Rescue attempts, torture RP, trading the slaves to other groups for whatever form of currency) I could add a few more ideas, but I'm hoping I may have opened some minds up to some other possibilities and changed opinions a tad. Feel free if you have other ideas to shoot as well! (If this is in the wrong category on the forums, I apologize.)

Here is an alternative I've seen happen recently. Us boys in Kameníci walked up to a small settlement and demanded entry. Guess what happened? They opened the doors, came out and talked to us. Why? Because they realised that fighting it was futile, they were both outnumbered and outgunned, and fighting against it would ultimately lead to their demise. Did we rob them? No, we easily could have, and if the situation called for it we probably would have, but that isn't really the point. The point I want to make with Settlement RP is that groups inside of the settlements hardly ever give in or give up, they refuse to open their doors, refuse to negotiate and they refuse to acknowledge defeat, leading to endless and endless fighting that nobody really benefits from. If bandits are a problem, if they are fucking with your settlements, why not try to cater to them? Try to reason with them on their terms, and the next time they come along they might be more lenient, hell they may even be allies.

Im gonna be honest, RP these days is very boring. There is 0 fear in the server, everyone runs around hunting for gear. Most people dont RP their injuries so rping as a doctor wont make sense. You need to ask permission to do anything to a person so people will just run up to anyone without being scared because they got a rulewall to hide behind. Ive seen your suggestions. Outpost RP: Ends up being attacked 24/7 or its turning into a trollRP compound. We need rules for outposts en people who protect and RP there other then being on the radio 24/7. Exploration RP: Wont work, people will use the internet to get anywhere. Traveling traders RP: They will get robbed 24/7 Fema RP: Already happening atm. Resistance RP: Noone perma kills their character or surrender. If people would this would be possible but Yea.. Crime family RP: Only fun for the family, not for the people who need to provide. Slave RP: Its gonna end up in firefights. RP is not gonna be good if people dont change. More people need to care about their characters and have the balls to permakill their character if they get involved in firefights non-stop. We need some rules or people need to change to make RP great again.

The game is what, 4 years old? And it's been in "alpha" state for all that time, it's a miracle anyone is still playing it. Of course people are bored. While other games like MMOs constantly add new features, areas and game mechanics through expansions, which give players new objectives or reasons to keep playing, DayZ has been standing still and often taking a few steps back for all these years. The best proof of that is that the game has been officially "released" and yet we're still waiting for old content to be re-added into the game. So yeah, there's fuck all to do in game, and our small modding team of people with full time school and jobs can only create so much new stuff to make things interesting. It all relies on that groups and individuals create stories and events which brings people to the game. Cause it sure ain't the game content or mechanics. So I'm not surprised that a lot of content in game relies on conflict and PvP.

I would like to start this by saying that the quote that @Mak cited in this report has been misused and taken out of context. It was supposed to drive the debate at hand forward and was in no way, shape or form a statement. When in doubt, refer to the rules. It is my humble opinion that once you have surrendered, whether or not your hands are up, you should not be communicating with your team. You are to behave realistically (3.2), and talking into a radio while surrounded by several people just because you have one hand down is not realistic in my book. We used to accept, IC, the fact that having one hand up was a valid form of surrender since raising both hands would often result in your weapon being yeeted. It is my opinion that the rule regarding surrendering needs to be overhauled any way since the default shortcut is different and there is no pulse check any more. As of today, following @Phoenix guidelines above is a solid way to prevent metagaming with the current iteration of our rules.

I feel kind of funny and awkward at the same time asking this question, but I'm looking for anyone who is from Vietnam or has extensive knowledge of the region, preferably the Da Nang region. Let me explain real quick. This funny looking old man in the photo at the bottom between me and my brother is my grandfather. An old Irish man who served in the Vietnam War in the 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines as an 0311 (Rifleman) but was placed as an 0331 (Machinegunner) upon arrival at An Hoa Firebase in the Da Nang region. Being both soldiers in the US Armed Forces, he opened up more to me about his time in Vietnam and the PTSD he suffers. He's the sole survivor from his squad. He was bit by a mosquito and contracted malaria. The day he returned, he was put on light duty where he gave his weapon to a new soldier in the unit. His squad went out that very same night when he said goodbye to the bush on a combat operation to counter the NVA where they all walked into an ambush and all but one was killed by the NVA in a ten hour firefight. He suffers from survivors guilt and hasn't been able to forgive himself for leaving behind his comrades. He's seen his brothers in arms dead infront of him countless times where they had a Mulligins Stew, where they were so hungry and had no food that they mixed whatever they had be it crackers or fudge brownies and laughed it off. I've seen this battle hardened warrior cry right infront of me as he relived those painful memories, and it broke my heart. So I made a vow, and with my brother's support (also a combat soldier) that we would go to Vietnam and take him with us back to Da Nang who he hasn't been back in over fifty years and return to An Hoa and hopefully find NVA/Vietnam Veterans on the opposite side, so he could break bread and bring closure in his life. He holds absolutely no animosity to the Vietnamese people or the NVA, he thinks that they're incredibly warriors who were only fighting for their country and has nothing but respect for them. We want our grandfather to heal, because he watched as others around him pay the ultimate sacrifice while he was forced to go on living and carry the weight. We're willing to do whatever we can in our power to make this happen, and while I'm still young and have the resources and money to do so, I can't do it alone. If anyone has any recommendations on helping me finding some kind of a reunion or a way to help make this trip more smoother or just give me a better insight like places to eat and what not, I would highly appreciate any support. So far we're flying to Da Nang to stay at the Tourane Hotel and spending 6-7 days in Da Nang and the surrounding area/returning to his old firebase and have him "make peace with the Vietnamese" like he says he wants to. And I hope that we can make that happen and provide him with the closure he so wants and the joy he would have to make peace with his haunting pass. I love you, Grandpa.

Shot way too fast. This is what annoys me, because it’s a looks like an unplanned last minute hold up that nearly went completely wrong if you had died. They should learn to initiate whilst you’re not facing them. Granted it may be the triangle but you can’t gurantee that’s the ONLY bandit area. People are too quick to pull the trigger cause they are worried about the consequences to their actions. Also seeing the last report, I think learning the emote wheel can help. Pressing “.” Will lead you to many emotes. However I think you’ve learned VMC = you getting shot a lot

Yeah, you were def shot too fast and that sucks but I'm glad you weren't gassed completely. I think part of the issue is location. The Triangle is known for it's ... stellar ... RP and a hub for a lot of new players to gather at. Because new players tend to be a little more ... Uh jumpy let's say, I see the HostileRPers being more itchy with their trigger fingers. Best bet is to move away from the Triangle and report any Rule Breaks you see/encounter. If you don't want to report, you can always DM the person and talk it out as well. Pop in the Help Desk ask for some logs if you got whacked and they'll provide the name to you baring you are wanting to talk it out.
