I think what people need to keep in mind is: over the fun of big dicking towards other individuals you meet, over the blood thirst of beating someone up / torturing someone / killing someone, over the cool kids pvp challenge - as a hostile group your main goal is to entertain the person you are oocly/icly forcing to stay in a situation. If done well reputation is gained and people have fun - the ice is fucking thin though - if done poorly with a wrong focus it will leave a bitter taste to people involved. The same counts for hostages. You are required to follow a lead oocly/icly in a situation in which a victim role is forced upon you. It is a challenge as well because many factors ( How does your individual character react to violence brought towards her/him? How do you role play certain emotions? What is the best way to express certain feelings while acting within the rules?) need to be kept in mind. People need to stop being close-minded, thinking in "team-hostile" & "team-campfire" and start to put the focus on how they can actively give impulses/ input into a situation to create an enjoyable situation for both sides which then can be processed into story lines. my 2 Černoruský Rubl.

So with the recent complaints about Hostile RP and the general super soldier immortal warrior radio chatter bullshit this idea came to my head. I used to roleplay on MTA: San Andreas (Multiplayer mod for GTA San Andreas) Back in 2012-2016 and they had this hidden forum which only staff could see. Players that have had bad experiences with certain characters such as multiple robberies, harassment, and general hostilities could put in a 'Character Kill Application' which the staff could then vote on, if their reason was deemed valid the application would then be accepted. The player could then make a IG Report to have an admin recon them and they could Roleplay out killing the target's character. If the Roleplay was deemed good enough the character would then be perma-killed. Since we don't really have the ability to spectate people IG right now we could make it so they have to record it and send it to the staff team for validation. This in my opinion solves alot of the immortal 'You can't touch me because I'll just respawn and continue being a dickhead to you 24/7 RP.' And make people actually fear being hostile towards everyone because it could mean their character gets killed without them having any influence on it. If the player fails their attempt to kill the person and gets killed instead, they get perma-killed aswell so it's a high risk, high reward situation. Pro's: - No more immortal warrior bullshit - Actual fear from the agressors towards the people they hurt. - More realistic scenario's. Con's: - OOC Salt because the perma-killed person is salty for losing his character.

If I may offer my err, opinion. As a person who's more or less been RPing for 13 years, I'd like to offer my view, if y'all don't mind. In my opinion, campfire roleplay is where the good stuff happens. It's where friends are made, and enemies created. It's where characters' morals and opinions are challenged or affirmed. HostileRP, or rather, combat in general, has a tendency to offer none of those things, unless hostages are taken. Even then, all they seem become is some rabid PvP-obsessed guy turning it into a power fantasy. It's more the people who do it, than the act itself. There are some genuinely interesting people who do it, but in my experience thus far, it seems a large portion of that crowd are nothing but guys who want to just kill people, and are abusing the community's guidelines to do it. I will say this however. I'm not throwing shit at anyone who does do HostileRP, even the ones I have in mind who do the aformentioned. I'll just ask this, one RPer to countless others: Challenge yourself. HostileRP characters seem to be so....shallow for the most part. C'mon, you guys're all intelligent folks. You're full of potential! Build your characters up! Make 'em interesting! Don't just be cookie-cutters. You owe the people you take hostage that much if you're going to force them to do things. Thanks guys, s'all I'll say. Figured I'd just add my 2 cents. Cheers boys, and Happy Holidays.

Reading through this thread was... actually really painful. The problem I have with this community is that it's split down the middle, neutral and hostile. It's always been that way, and it's human nature to want to take a side. It's obvious everyone does what they like, and when someone stops you from doing what you like, you get upset. Nobody is taking into account that everybody they run into is an actual person with thoughts, feelings, and their own preference for RP. No matter who you run into, it's always different; you might see someone who wants to have a group of people under them, or someone who wants everyone to be happy and peaceful, that's just facts. Everybody wants something different, and apparently, the replies in this thread fail to take that into account. Both sides of this argument raised solid points, bad hostileRP can ruin fun situations while not being around central hubs for RP doesn't expand the server at all. It's this split down the middle that is causing this community to fall apart. Nobody WANTS to admit that they are wrong, but you're never correct 100% of the time. In real life, you're gonna have people who want nothing more than to kill people, because there are no consequences for their actions. On the contrary, you'll also have people who want to help people, because they are genuinely good. In a way, this is the truest to real life I've ever seen DayzRP. I've been in this community for a while, and I've played every side imaginable. I've been a bandit, a campfire RPer, part of neutral groups etc. And they all think the same thing, that the other side is the problem. While, in reality, as many of you have said previously, this game is a two-way street, it's almost never as simple as blaming one group of people for all of the problems. One might be more guilty than the other, but this is a problem that is community-wide and should be addressed as such. Nobody is more at fault than anybody else, this is just life. People latch on to one side of the debate and refuse to let go, no matter what people say. But, at the end of the day, we should all just remember that this is a video game. Let's stop taking so seriously, and just try to be the best you can, and let everything else solve itself. There's nothing else we can do.

I've had run-ins both IC and OOC with in my opinion, overly-hostile groups and thought I should pipe up. I understand that PVP is fun, I understand it's an adrenaline rush but I also understand it makes you feel empowered. As @Brayces said, they typically like to prey on more passive RPers. Whether this is because they're easy prey or just because there's more of them, I don't know. I believe the PVPers in this community are very 'clique-y'. I remember a shitstorm on the community discussion board recently that erupted because I was trying to make sense of the RP that was given. I tried reaching out to those involved for a more civilised discussion and got no response. That really spoke volumes to me about the types of some of the people who are a part of this community. From my experience PVP orientated groups don't much like starting with other PVP oriented groups, and this all comes down to one thing. Gear. I understand that being known as a PVPer feels good, but it does mean putting a bit more work into the RP to actually pull it off properly. I found myself in a scenario last night with people dressed in blue that could have gone very wrong. They had obvious kill rights on one of us and decided not to take it which I admire from a seemingly hostile group. I understand why people enjoy hostileRP. But it's only fair to take other people's preferences in RP into consideration. Running up, initiating, robbing and leaving is not good RP in my opinion. Just my two-cents.

Can we now admit how shit this game is and start looking for alternatives? Like mad props to @JimRP, @Aeryes, @Kerkkoh and @Misho for trying to develop something worth playing but TBH, You can't build a house on rotten foundations. Unless Bohemia releases an update that fixes a majority of issues by the end of December lets face the music and admit defeat. At this point I don't even care if its A3, A2, GTA, Rust or Ark. Just start making plans for the future and keep us in the loop 100% of the way. Right now sticking with DayZ Standalone is like seeing a train coming down the tracks and refusing to move. Its not gonna change its course no matter how much you trust the conductor. Some midwest wisdom for you all: You can't polish a turd.

What about a character only having one life? Once he or she is killed (during roleplay) the character cannot come back to life. This way people will value their life more. Both parties. There's a risk that you might get killed, same goes for the other party. You can appeal a characters death if you have not been met with good roleplay or maybe a mistake (please record video evidence).

This. If nothing else, I do think executions should be taken more seriously. Always has been awkward going through hours of really in-depth RP, possibly over the span of weeks and months, to finally be in a position where the RP is strong enough to warrant an execution, only to see the guy running through Stary the next day.

I think it depends on the situation. If someone just robs you and then leaves you after giving 5 minutes of not fun roleplay, you're not going enjoy it. Even though hostile roleplay isn't my cup of tea, It depends on the situation at hand whether I enjoy it or not. But at the same time, if you are being robbed by the same people over and over again, I can see it getting on peoples nerves. I've had plenty of great hostile encounters. One, I will always remember, was the time Viridian had our summer camp above Chernogosk, and we were just chilling when we saw people in the trees watching. This built up suspense. Later on they came down and initiated and the leader of the Black Fangs, and Josh Bradshaw [which I think is played by Onion?] provided some really good roleplay. They even hit me with an apple in my face! But, yes hostile roleplay isn't for everyone. But if its roleplayed well, it will be fun. There are so many talented hostile roleplayers around here, you just need to find them!

As former staff....it's happened and quiet a few times in the past. We delt with it as we seemed fit. It didn't take much time and a good slap on the wrist brought these people to their sense.

But why does Hostile RP have to start with an initiation? With "Do X or die"? That is almost inherently PVP because you're ready to kill the other player. Hostile RP doesn't have to be either die now or die later, we can have a great session of Hostile RP without dropping initiations, which are just a quick way to take control and be able to do whatever you want.

Permadeath needs to mutual and respectful. Care as much for other peoples characters on an ooc level as much as you care for your own (Thats if you care for it). Remember, this community has all levels of roleplay. Some people are more hardcore, others are more casual and play when they can.... The important thing is to be open to all concepts and push to always the same goal: Fun for everyone. People tired of radio warriors? If they are ruining it for everyone get rid of the radio threads and go back to private dms and communications. Idiots gotta ruin it for all right? People not acting out their wounds? Can't force that, not everybody is hardcore RPer...some dont have 4 hours every evening to rp out having their ass kicked. Some people work 9-5+ jobs, we don't have time for that. No fear in combat situations? How about thinking alternatives to initiations and progress hostile RP being hostile, not saying the magic words for once in a while.

I mean, it works both ways for people who RP super soldiers/ do radio warrior shit.. There's also the people that have died 20+ times in pvp, don't RP out their wounds and act as if nothing happened, ever. Don't really see the need for something like this.

I can think of another con ? - Shit ton of work for staff, for little to no gain Do we really need another report section? Our GMs can barely keep up with the existing one.

I think that having read this, the issue is now narrowed down for me to the above. Being hostile to everyone only works when you have infinite lives. So, in a sense, being hostile to anything that moves should be, by default, NVFL or BadRP, I feel. Make Permadeath mandatory See how they pick their fights much wiser, if they even still have an appetite to fight at all.

That's funny, I could swear you have done similar and worse things and we did not report them because we knew you were on final. If you have proof of these things forward it to me and I will remove said members from my group or you can make a report against these people. My plans for this group are big and we will show everyone what we are capable of. Yes, we have people that are good PVP, we have people that are good at RP and they'll try to help each other improve. Like other people said they've heard me talk about my plans for my group and they are pretty big. We are taking things slowly and even though you can't see it, there's tons of internal RP going on but that's also one thing I'm trying to change with this group, posting pics of our internal RP on our media thread, something I'll be forcing on to my members themselves. Like this little addition there's more of them that will hopefully change how groups are ran as a whole on DayZRP.
