"Carrot-and-Stick"-Policy Heads up: This threads purpose is to discuss an rough idea on how to make running and/or participating in an official, approved group more attractive. Its NOT! about discussing the rules, current groups or any kind of issues with recent changes. Comments, feedback and suggestions are highly welcome The Situation: The latest changes in the ruleset promoted a stronger focus on official, approved groups and their influence on the dynamic of the server. This was achieved by making dynamic groups obsolete after taking away their KOS-Rights. While the ability to defend your friends, beloved ones and group in general is a pretty solid motivation to join/make an official group, its more an indirect way of achieving an increasing number of groups - Not necessary by rewarding them, but by "abolishing" dynamics. This is the "Stick" in the "Carrot-and-Stick"-Policy. But where is the "carrot"? - The benefit/reward besides KOS-Rights and a fancy forum page in taking the time and effort of forming a creative idea into something that enriches the community and server? The Idea: Right now, we already have a reward system implemented for single players who log in daily for an hour: Lets call them "Activity Badges". Lets be honest - We all love our achievements and we all love to show them on our profile pages and on the forum. Recently there was even the offer of buying shiny things like badges for money and damn, some people went full "Black Friday" on that offer So why not expand the idea of rewarding behavior that benefits the server/community from single persons to official groups? The Suggestion: Create Badges for Group Achievements. Allow groups to present the community what they have created. Give them the ability to promote their activities on the forum and by doing so increase the interest of others in joining them. Some Ideas? - Here we go: Activity Badges: "Being approved for 1 - 3 - 6 - 12 months" to promote longer lasting groups. (This is obviously tied to the group activity!) Hub-Runner: "Run a RP-Hub for a certain amount of time" to promote "official" player-run settlements that are not given up after the first attack. Event-Master: "Hold 1 - 3 - 5 on the forum promoted events" to promote player created events that people can participate in. Lore-Friendly: "Participate with a certain amount of group members in a lore-event" to promote the progress of the lore by player actions. As I said, this is just a rough idea to promote the creation of official groups by rewarding them. I'm not aware of the plans by @Rolle and staff in general regarding groups, but I wanted to know what you guys think about this, so feel free to leave your opinion on this topic

Song The society that we've always known might be gone but not the people. What happened to the world forced the ones who are still roaming around these lands to redistribute the cards amongst themselves. You can find the ones trying to stick to what they'll always call their duty, wearing a blood covered uniform, trying to defend something that is long gone. There are also the ones who embrace the chaos. The new rules are no rules at all. Values and norms of the past don't seem to have much meaning anymore. Things these days are far from what was once humanity. Rushing around like little worker bees, one finds the people who are not able to let go of the past. They build and try to recreate what they are missing so desperately, a safe haven. Reaching for their so beloved system of law and order, they find themselves in fights. Fights with others who claim the right to be the one saying what rules to follow, whos ass to kiss. Some folks learned to adapt themselves to this deadly environment, including walking corpses and those named above. They don't try to rebuild, they aren't establishing rules, they don't fight if it is not possible. They simply chose to follow what looks to be the most productive and safest way of survival. The range of their possibilities changes with the skills and state of mind of these people. Originally they all had different reasons to be traveling in South Zagoria which doesn't really matter to them anymore. Working together, following their common goal, they mostly accepted diversity for the greater good. They're of different age, different nationality and represent different opinions but together they share the risk and take chances for the longer run of what might be a future. When they hear about people gathering at certain towns, on certain routes, most of the time it doesn't take long for them to show up. Sometimes a single person, sometimes a whole bunch of them. In the end of the day creativity is seeing what everyone else has seen, and thinking what no one else has thought. Terra - Emmi Beck It is very simple: There a things that have to be done to survive. „Things“, that can mean nothing and everything and everything in between. I learned very early how to get what I want and what I need. I had to learn this stuff and I actually had to learn it the hard way. Of course you have to be careful and you have to be smart. Sometimes you lose and sometimes you win. This is how it is these days, more than ever. I've met Jiri some weeks ago. He is an angry guy with a soft spot. He kinda has the same mindset as I have : I don't care what people say and I don't give a damn about their laws. He is a arrogant prick who can be very funny and smart. I think that describes him the best. You need people like him these days. First I used him simply to survive. Now we are working together as a team and our team is getting bigger and better. Stress is caused by giving a fuck so let's celebrate this shit! Ron - Jiri Lanik I mean, look around you. It is a shithole full of cunts. I was doing things on my own because most of the people I met so far simply annoy the fuck out of me. I mean of course I could beat the shit out of them but that would mean too much effort. I got the things I need and I know where to find more if needed. I was on my own when I met Emmi. Guess she is not too much of a bitch, she can be though. Women love me, so no surprise that she hung around. We agreed on working together and share what we... find. Oisin - Katie Mitchell Fuck it you know? This is the best damn chance I've ever got and i got a good group of people around me. People think around here is bad when it really ain't, this is our opportunity! Nothing more to hold us back! We can do whatever the hell we want, take what we want, do what we want. Fuck other people.. Well.. the ones i'm with now are okay.. They got more sense than most and ain't trying to kill each other so why not stick around, might even get shit done. Patz - Pyotr Smirnov World has changed, so did people. It is important to go around in groups, going around alone makes you weak, even if you are a strong man bratan. Weird group of people I found… lots of western people, not sure if I like them or not. For now its good enough. There are still quite a few survivors out here in South Zagoria and I like to categorize people I meet you see? There is category Hammer and category Nail. Are you hammer or nail, tovarish? Grimnir - Isabella Romano High risk, high reward, that really sums up what's happening here. I never understood why people were so scared of this, well most people but for sure not me or my brother. Both of us had always trouble following rules, both for our own reasons and both with different results. When I came to visit him in Chernarus I thought I'd be back in Italy a week later, well wrong. I got stuck in the most boring country I can imagine. I was actually surprised that Benny found interesting people for once and not just some boring idiots in suits, like the ones he normally surrounds himself with. I liked them right off the bat, finally something more entertaining than cans of food and empty roads. I can't wait to see what they can come up with and if they need a little push to cheer up so be it. Doc Holiday - John Walker They always say hope is the first thing that goes in a global crisis. People don't get to see their loved ones ever again, food and resource become scarce and assholes pop up from all over the place wanting to take advantage. You can see why people lose it, but I'd say I haven't given up yet, nor do I plan on it. Everyone around me is full of despair, their dreams being crushed before their eyes. It takes a lot to not help them, my training compels me to, but deep down I know I can't. Supplies are low and you just can't treat everyone. When times are tough you have to bite your tongue and stick with people you'd usually turn away from, even if that means being used. I don't care, they'll appreciate me more when I save their lives. Solo - Nick OReilly It's hard... It's hard when you lose everything. Your Job, your family, your friends. And to know that you threw it away for what? A few pills, some powder and a bottle of whiskey. And now I'm all tangled in a web of shit, waiting to bite the dust. This virus that's plagued this shithole of a country has taken everything from everyone so we're really in the same boat when you think about it. The ones that are taking this shit as a way to undermine the rules and take opportunities are the ones that will die first, believe me I've seen it all before. The only thing I can do is to try and blend in and not draw attention to myself, although I don't know how long that will last. Peter introduced me to these people, only met them for five minutes but hey its all I've got. I know for a god damn fact that I'm not risking anything like the others that came before me, its time to see what chips are on the table, maybe I'll be lucky. PIC SOONTM Fletcho1 - Ulysses Fears TEXT SOONTM PIC SOONTM Conor - Natalie Slaninova TEXT SOONTM PIC SOONTM Sparky - Frank Jones I just wanted to be left alone.. All the death all the destruction I figured interacting with people just caused more problems 90% of the time. I have had my fair share off problems but one thing I learned from each and every one of them is you cannot survive on your own anymore and the lengths people are willing to push to for survival is scary. The more I travel the more I notice the change in people... The humanity slipping away and the sheer lack for value of life... The difference is I do value my life and I want to survive... Maybe it is time to make some friends PIC SOONTM Jason Hunter - Trevor Knox The lone-wolf life is quite dangerous, doesn't matter how badass you are. What's important to me is being in a team. I really don't give a monkey's nutsack on what type of people there are in this team, I just want to be in a group with people i can rely on and with people who can count on me to help them if needed. I'll do everything i can to put them on the map! Even if that requires hostilities with others.. Systematic use of poential camps/markets to gather supplies sucessfully via a simple way (0/ 10 Heists - Est. 253 days) Gather information from travelers (repetitive process) Tune in on different radio frequencies to gather information about potential locations (repetitive process) Create pool of sources: Update intern map on locations of public camps/markets and hidden stashes (1/ 10 Locations - Est. 253 days) Build a hidden storage of supplies to ensure group's survival (0/3 Tents & 0/3 Barrels ; 0/100 Cans - Est. 253 days) Always keep an eye out for potentials members: Develop a system of trialship to tell apart between friend or foe (Est. 253 days) Gain strength via fusion with another group: Networking with potential alliances (1/8 official groups met) Find and repair vehicles in order to gain a fleet (Est. 253 days) Using individual skills of members to teach and support each other, finding out what role to fulfill (Est. 253 days) Observers (how many people, tents, locations, map updates) Designers (individual planning of actions due to info of observers) Connector (making contact, talks to camp owners/ people, potential trader) Snatcher (the one who takes things and gets out) Craftsman (realization of plan, does what needs to be done to get snatchers out of the area, potential initiator) Aim for role play to be gained out of created situations and understand fire fights as a last option to be chosen Experience different role play styles as a function of individual in game - situations focus on individual goals along with group goals to reach for long lasting story lines Spread individual role play through the map, no hiding behind campfires Mixed base of voice and textrpers

Well, there was a shit load of people I have to say I loved the roleplay with today. Let's start with obviously my boys @Whitename, @Ryan Carter, and @Allen Storm where we had to help each other with wolves and then disappeared while Ulman was playing some good 'ol music on the guitar. Once you all left, I had some good roleplay with @LouieRP, @VictusRP, @BorisRP, and @stage when it comes to heavy development with Anarchy and Ulman. Louie standing up with Ulman showed a massive shift with Ulman and was really surprising what is all going on. Good roleplay to @Combat Logo, @taac, @Layman96, and @turtlemilk for the really interesting roleplay that we had. I loved my first actual meeting with the Podius Cras and Ulman learning that what he heard was true was a pleasant surprise. Also, @King, sad to see how your character was dragged into all of this. Further, interesting roleplay from @DrMax and (I completely forgot your name. The girl with a bad stutter who isn't Dr. Faith). Even more with @XxGrAipYyxX, @PrinceCharles74, and @SpookyBug who I saw a bit of interesting tense RP. Good roleplay to @Lyca who showed some really interesting roleplay when Boris tried to forcefully marry her which seemed to have now caused a massive conflict within Anarchy. Also, good roleplay to that one Irish guy who I did not get his name who was on Louie's side. Overall, some really interesting and good shit and I am so excited to see some more! I now have to go update my journal, which you should check out! (Shameless advertising is shameless)

*you would hear a quite drunk Slavic voice come over the radio very loud and abruptly* "BLYAT! USE RADIO FOR COMMUNICATION NOT MAKING RUSSIANS EARS BLEED CYKA!" *he would pause and you would hear some fumbling around in the background and a tape being inserted into an old stereo* "You asked for this Пиндос!"

To be honest I think calling out potential rulebreaks from a group is constructive, it allows them to understand that they might not be RPing in the best of ways. It will help them take that person's response and understand where they come from, thus changing how they act in-game. Also when it comes to a Loremaster attempting to help a group, he posted everything he needs either explained or fixed above with no response from the group leader. If the OP does not wish to put forth the effort to finish holes in the Lore then @Major will just have to do his job and close it.

23rd of May, 2012. This was when I first bought ARMA 2, give or take a month after the first trailer was even released by Dean Hall. I was a kid and I remember bugging my parents so they could spend 30 dollars (which was around 60 BRL back then); it wasn't easy, I had to ask my sister for help as she already had her own income. It was a very, very scary situation because I had no idea what I was really getting into and I was already spending more on a game than I ever had... But this "DayZ Mod" wouldn't leave my mind. I had first seen it on Youtube and it blew me away, it impacted me so much I just had to get my hands on it. Unfortunately I don't have registered the amount of time I've played Arma 2/DayZ because I mostly used DayZ Commander, which as far as I know didn't register playtime on Steam. Currently, Steam tells me I have around 503 hours registered on ARMA 2 OA (from when I stopped using DayZ Commander), but considering I used DC and played it every single day for hours for around 3 years, I wouldn't be surprised if I have in total around 2,000. Plus another 347 hours in the Standalone. Fair to say I was addicted. To this day I believe DayZ shaped the way I interact with games and entertainment. It grew with me, it allowed me to take part in a community unlike any other. Now, seeing young adulthood around the corner, I look back with nostalgia... And a bit of sadness. At least once a week I look at my Steam library and I see DayZ and ARMA 2 OA there. Uninstalled for months. I think about the hours I spent in the frozen and mysterious wasteland of Namalsk, driving over the huge bridges of Taviana, blasting through the jungles of Panthera and hiking up the hills of Chernarus. I think about the very first time I went up to the NWAF, with only a Lee Enfield to my name. I heard a sniper on the hills of Cherno, went up there out of boredom to see if I could score a sneaky kill, but all I found was a motorcycle - my first vehicle. I slowly approached it, my heart raced and my hands grew colder and sweatier by the second. Finally, I was close enough to jump on and drive away as fast as I could. I instantly knew that was my ticket to the far off magical lands of the "Northwest Airfield". Once I knew I was safe, I brought up my map and drove that bike all the way up through Zeleno, Green Mountain, then to Stary, Kabanino, and eventually to the field near the south wall, where fuel ran out. After that, I just ran as fast as I could into the Western woods and there I sat for several minutes, just taking in the view of the hangars and the firestation. Now I see that those are feelings I will never experience again, and that actually breaks my heart a little. It was around a year later, in 2013, that I joined this community, and I watched it grow with me too, even though I've never been too active. I saw pretty much all of DayZRP's eras, from the DayZ Mod to Epoch, Desolation, Life is Feudal, Miscreated, etc., and now to Standalone. The concept of RP in DayZ also blew my mind, and it sparked my love for roleplaying which is alive to this day. However, even if these memories break my heart, they keep my love for the game alive, too. So, I wanted to make this thread to tell my story with DayZ and how much it affected me as a person, and I'm very curious to hear your stories, too. How and when you found out about the game, how much you played and how it affected you personally. Maybe share with us some specific stories from the early days, even before RP. Let's call this a "DayZ appreciation thread" of some sorts, so the future of DayZ is, if not as bright, close to what it once was.

~The mind numbing static of the radios would be broken by the broadcast of a main with a hint of strain and pain in his voice~ Hello there South Zagoria... For those of you who do not persay know me... I am Tivian... I have some news that will perhaps bring a smile to your faces... Around dinner time Tuesday afternoon I will be in Severograd giving out booster shots to people who need them... For those of you unsure of what a booster shot does it helps you not get really sick when you get cut with rusty metal... ~There would a short pause where you could hear the voice counting something, soon enough though the voice would continue~ I also have a small amount of flu vaccine but due to not have a whole lot of that I have to charge for it... I am only asking that people pay 5 bullets of any kind to get the flu shot... The booster shot however is free to all who ask for it though... If you are in need of other medical supplies or need medical help, I can see what I can do to help you but my supplies are limited... If I do not have what you need I can try to search for it if you give me a list or if it is up and running I will point you towards the hospital... Hope to see you all in Severograd Tuesday afternoon... Stay safe out there and if you have a questions please feel free to ask me... ~The voice would be cut off by static~

See you around. *Kenneth turns off the radio and starts to climb the church Wall in Lopatino*

played today. Met the hobos and did a trade it was good. Heard some music which was nice. Got threatened by some anarchists didn't back down and so I did some work for them instead. Hitched a ride on a truck. Politely interrogated a brit and Irishmen. Hit on many ladies, Sang some songs in the back of a truck. Stole from a dead man. Met a pregnant lady and decided ill have her bastard when the time comes. Almost watched an Ex-admin get forcibly married, almost watched the faux grooms men get killed by his mates over it. Met one hell of a Queenslander. Slept in a church. Tonight was total Anarchy and it was fun. Thank you to the BlackRoses, Anarchy, The Queenslander, The deadman and his pregnant girlfriend, and Mr. Kovar. First interesting session I've had in ages. Thank @TheTrueHawk. Nice meeting ya as well.

I just got my email back that tells me about my ancestry, as I had bought a kit from Ancestry.com a couple months back. Not going to go parading the information all the time, but I think it's cool to know about where they all come from. Looks like literally one person from Africa from the percentage, funny because I'm extremely white.

Hey @Major, I appreciate the feedback - I'm just afraid that a part of the idea was easy to misunderstand (Which can happen when it's as little explained as I did) The Group Badge wouldnt be shown in the profile or posts of the single group members, for the obvious reason that was pointed out by you and I think @SweetJoe that clustering them would make the forum look like a freaking rainbow. The idea was more to show them f.e. on the page of the group themself (Forum --> DayZ --> Groups), where you can right now only see the categories "Leaders & Moderators" and "All members" as a third category that shows not only the persons of the group but their achievements. Once a group (not the single members) has earned a badge, they can also add it to their group page (Forum --> DayZ Standalone --> DayZ Groups). As I said, its a rough idea but in the general concept I want to give groups the chance to promote their doings to those that might be interested in joining, not to give away badges like candy to single community members. By doing this it doesnt conflict with @Rolle's sale of personal badges and encourages groups to actually stay alive because when the group archives and by this the group page disappears, the badges of the group would disappear aswell To sum it up: Not every single member would get a badge for the achievements of the group, but the group for their group page itself.

I saw DayZ videos on youtube and thought, "Man, roleplaying in this game would be hella cool, I should see if there is a community for this." And there was. I thought it was going to be just that, but it became so much more. After almost a year of on and off, I got serious into DayZRP and met the Watchers, was thrusted into RP storyline after storyline and I enjoyed every last minute of it. I was known as a hero, then a fugitive, then someone who didn't care about morals anymore, only to find those morals once more. Then I started picking up random strangers off the road, which ended up being the best decision of my DayZRP life. I continued on what I believed to be the legacy of how roleplay is supposed to be, and still feel that way to this day, and met some really good friends. @Arcarius @Watchdog @Tredrok @Silicon Palidin. Then the entire game changed and I met even more great friends and had even more great adventures... by picking more random people off the road. In a clown mask. And it worked brilliantly as well, despite the odds. Thanks Masquerade. @Kattica @Brad @NishiUrban @Ender @HAGGLE. And I met the most important one of all to me. @Aurora Sky. So this game has changed my life quite dramatically, all for the better, and it wasn't so much because of the game, but because of the community. So thanks, fuckers. Unnamed5Lyfe.

Don't ever belittle yourself and your own feelings! So what, some people out there may have it harder that doesn't mean you're having a easy time. What may not seem like a big deal to someone, may be a big deal to someone else. We don't say, "Oh you broke your arm for the first time? Shut up! I broke my Arm AND my leg." Like, that doesn't change the fact you still have a broken arm and are in pain. Ya know? I can't say why you're feeling the way you're feeling. It may be best to sit down and think of all the things that may contribute to your current mental state. Do you have a lot of stressors? Poor home life? Poor work environment? Sometimes something as simple as not having a overall goal to aim toward, or feeling like you're just spinning your wheels can make you feel bad. I would sit down and write out all the things you feel bad about. Like so; I feel lonely - Because I have no RL friends/My Online Friends are too busy/Etc I feel depressed - Because I don't have a goal/I'm not achieving my goals/ect And from there, try and write out things you believe may alleviate those feelings. For example; Lonely - I can try joining a RL Club/Meet with old RL Friends/Organize times to play with Online Friends/Find another community to join like a MMO or something that better aligns with my timezone/etc Depressed - Lack of a goal - try listing small steps to get closer to that goal/List out blocks to your goal and how you can overcome them/etc. For me, it's easier to see the HOWs and WHYs so I can help to work on a change! I hope this is a little helpful.

I don't think we need to argue about the rules, guys. They are what they are. Some people disapprove of the new rules and that's fine, this place and its rules cannot be a perfect fit for everyone and it doesn't try to either. I understand that you don't agree with each other, but there is no point in trying to convince other members that your vision of the rules is the right one

It's Inactive attention seeking samti here It is a great honor to be white-listed here on this amazing dayz Community, hell back in the day i used to sometimes play 48 hours before sleeping 1 night and then again playing for 24's, I'm making this post because I'm Returning soon-ish to this community because I miss it (No doubt none of ya missed me ) and i've been inactive long enough but enough Jibbar jabber, I hope i'll pick up dayzrp back up soon and Maybe get very active again.
