Pre-Outbreak

Before the onset of these dark times this congregation of men had limited interaction with one another. Each member of this task force was specially trained in Chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defence, disaster cleanup and containment, the ranks comprised of men from different, but not vastly so, walks of life, ranging from military personnel to firefighters.

The unit was formed in the image of the liquidators that proved so effective during the days, weeks and months that followed the Chernobyl disaster in 1986, that devastated the city of Pripyat and rendered the surrounding areas uninhabitable to this day. The Chernobyl liquidators were comprised of civil and military personnel who were called upon to deal with consequences of the disaster on the site of the event. The liquidators are widely credited with limiting both the immediate and long-term damage from the disaster.

Comprised  of a hundred or so men, they would come together no more than once every few months in order to partake in drills and training arranged by the United Nations. In fact this entire force was organised by member states of the UN, with conflicting reports saying that the official bill that called for the formation of the Liquidators passed in either the early months of 1999 or later that same year. The bill was kept from the public eye in order to limit any negative connotations such an organisation may have, i.e. The UN anticipate another disaster on the scale of Chernobyl.

Prospective members were chosen mostly from branches of the armed forces that had prior experience in matters pertaining to Nuclear, Biological and Chemical weapons handling, with many others coming from a civilian background with experience in crisis management with experience that paralleled their military counterparts. Intended to be a unit that could deal with the fallout of a large scale NBC disaster, whilst also maintaining the peace in the immediate area as well as ensuring the well being of the civilian populace whilst there.

Call To Aid

With the events that transpired throughout the month of July 2017, the Liquidators were called together and ordered to commune at a small blacksite not far from the border of Chernarus within Russian controlled territory. With the military failing on numerous occasions to contain the reported outbreak it was left to the Liquidators to enter Chernarus and do what they must to limit a global catastrophe. As reports from outside of Chernarus began to sing a familiar tune the call came on July 26th 2017 for them to enter. They had been cleared to move ahead with the operation…

Chernarus

Following the outbreak, the unit toiled tirelessly to help further their original goal, with the evacuation of the civilian populace largely completed in their immediate area, the group set about hasty attempts to limit the spread of the virus, with their knowledge of it extremely limited, the biological warfare experts in the unit advised a sheer approach to the situation, with the destruction of wildlife in the immediate area of the reported outbreak being the highest priority.

The mission proved nearly impossible, much to their consternation, constant NATO and CDF airstrikes hampered their efforts at safe traversal of the countryside, on top of this, the few units who managed to navigate even remotely close to ground zero were greeted by such a volume of infected individuals that it was deemed completely unsafe to begin operations in the area. The unit notified their NATO allies in the south and their Russian counterparts on the border to the north that operations to limit the spread of possibly infected wildlife would have to be undertaken by their own units as and when it was required.

Disheartened and demoralised by their inability to carry out their original tasks, the unit were largely contained to their camp, their duties limited to sweeping the immediate area for survivors and destruction of wildlife on a much smaller scale, continuous radio reports from the military elements across the country painted a grim picture to the unit, their only large scale undertakings at this point being the escort and assistance of elements from a research detachment sent from Chapaevsk.

"Liquidators more militarised aspects"

Soon after hosting the research unit, the CDF and NATO defense line fell to pieces, with the safety of the researchers, survivors and their own unit no longer guaranteed the UN gave the order for them pull south in an attempt to establish a more favourable position near the coast. With the roads gridlocked due to mass panic during the original days of the outbreak, progress for the group was slow and laboured, with the additional civilian presence the journey was made even harder than originally intended, with a great deal of their supplies having been abandoned to make room for the scientists and evacuees alike.

To make matters worse, a great storm wracked the countryside, rendering the back roads and dirt trails the convoy had been using completely impassable, the convoy was promptly abandoned, their aging Russian transport bogged down to such an extent that it would prove suicidal to linger and free it.  And so the group trudged on through the freezing rain in the pitch dark, the unit themselves found little issue, however the civilian and scientist contingent could not.

As the arduous trek south continued, the group slowed little by little with each passing day, tensions ran high, there were those amongst the unit that saw the safe passage of the civilian contingent as a humanitarian matter, and one of utmost importance, whilst others saw it as a costly ball and chain around the ankle of the unit, one that was actively jeopardising their survival, the divide amongst the unit was clear, though both knew that to argue was to stall, and so neither pursued matters for a while.

The time came when they could march no longer, and so amidst the raging storm in a small coppice the group made camp once again, all the usual precautions were taken, a perimeter was established and a strict noise enforcement policy was implemented, regardless of the driving rain battering the camp, no one was keen on taking any chances, the punishment for breaking this policy was severe, and so come the second night of the camp being established, a small group snuck away from the camp in the dead of night, fearing reprisal from the unit more than the horrors that lay in wait.

"Members of The Liquidators on assignment"

Their foray into the wilds did not last long, and when confronted with a horde of infected, they fell to pieces, half the group being ripped apart, with the other half fleeing back to camp with the undead in tow,  a massacre ensued, set upon in the early hours of the morning none were fully prepared for the onslaught that was upon them, casualties among both the unit and the civilians they were guarding were high.

Come the morning the camp was awash with blood, the few survivors having fought tooth and nail throughout the night, eventually putting every last infected that had set upon them to rest, the spectacle was something that turned the stomach of even the most hardened members of the unit, disembowelled women and children laying beside their mangled former comrades in the mud, the pained moans of those who had not come out of the melee unharmed echoing about the camp, it was enough to sever the fraying sanity of the few men who remained.

A collective decision was made, one with very little discussion surrounding it, and the camp was swept, the bodies of the fallen being piled high in the centre of the camp, whilst those who still hung to life were quietly ushered into death and added too, a grim task, but one each man carried out, better to condemn their allies to death than a lifetime of wandering about mindlessly in search of new prey, the pile was doused with whatever flammable liquids they could scavenge and set ablaze.

As the storm abated, the remaining members trudged south in an effort to regroup with whatever military presence might still remain, with their communications equipment either damaged by the storm or hastily left behind at the camp they had no way of ensuring there would be anyone remaining to welcome them, though it was a gamble they were forced to take, both low on supplies and able men with which to carry out their task they were faced with no option but to continue their withdrawal.

Progress was quicker now, with no additional weight to bog them down the remaining leg of the journey proved to be much quicker, a quiet affair save for the collective planning of how to explain the massacre they had just committed, though the intricate web of lies they intended to spin left many men doubtful, paranoid even of their fate should they return, having mercy killed those they believed to be infected without proper proof, many saw inevitable reprisals from their superiors should they make it back to the military cordon in the south, reprisals many had no intentions of suffering.

11.png.775d44d2f4bbc371a1e775976981d61f.png.d4ca3baaccc791cd47d8344c182dcf0a.png

"Patrolling the streets"

They plead with their comrades, arguing that regardless of how they justified it, however truthful they were, they would still be made an example of, however many argued that they had a job to carry out, and with a situation as dire as this every man would be needed to help, and the punishment for their crimes could wait.

This conflict of ideals rose to something much more dire later that day, with tensions reaching boiling point the argument could go no further, a standoff occurred between the two groups, each one unable to listen to their counterparts any longer. It was a brief but bloody affair, but a few seconds of rapturous gunfire and it was over.

As before they set the bodies of their friends to the torch, their twisted minds firmly in the belief that to continue south was to walk willingly into the shackles of an organisation that would throw them to the wolves to appease the international community, and so they turned back on themselves, seeing the land they intended to flee awash with the dead and the undying, a land they perceived as unclean, they came here with the job of limiting the spread of the outbreak, a job at which they had failed, and they didn't intend to fail again, slowly but surely they would rid Chernarus of the corruption that blighted it, no matter the cost.

Count me as excited! Can't wait to run into these characters; the group makes a lot of sense. Could make for some awesome evil-for-the-right-reasons roleplay. Good luck!

Interesting concept, especially give that the direct translation of liquidator while it has a negative connotation in english is actually more akin to relief or cleanup in Russia.

My major question is when and where your org was formed, I understand the inspiration for the group but you need to describe the group in certain terms as opposed to the nebulous way you have described it now. Give it some dimensions and a clear start point and sense of scale. Is it part of the UN? Like the red cross? Or something darker?

I get it is left intentionally vague but you run into a problem later where it isn't clear if you are an all purpose NBC cleanup team or just a group of people meant to carry dirt away.

You also need to explain why you didnt return to the large coastal safe zone and continue work there, as opposed to staying outside of supply lines in the wilds without the proper tools to do your job.

Good concept, needs to be honed and grounded.

Appreciate the feedback, some good points raised, I've spent time re-reading I see what you mean. We will get together a bit later on and go over the lore and idea tweak what needs to be and implement that on the thread here.

Edit;

  • We have made some changes to the Lore of the group that ground the group better in leading up to their current form as we see In-Game. These changes can be seen under the "Chernarus" part of the backstory and in the final paragraph of "Pre-Outbreak". We will continue to discuss and go over any further amendments based on community feedback.
  • Given proper credit at bottom of thread
  • Added further identifiers for the group
