So a while back I posted this concept thread

Now I would like to revive the idea of a bridge based on feedback of this!

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1718214730

I personally think it doesn't look that bad. I also can't imagine it's that hard to construct a bridge. This bridge resembles one my concepts (the big concrete bridge). That one was not a popular one for some but in this example on steam it doesn't even look that bad.

We don't have boats, let's get some bridge action goin. In the future when boats arrive, IF they do we can blow the bridge up.

ALSO this steam example includes the railroad bridge idea and a sunken ship. Both of which were also on my concept page and it all looks pretty good in one!

I personally think this is a pretty good idea as it makes prison island a much more viable area for rp and can end up leading to some very interesting avenues of rp. For example if a hero group established a base there for a community and regulated the in flow of people  over the bridge it could be very interesting protecting the island or even attacking it. I don't really see any reasons why something like this shouldn't be added as all it does is give people more opportunities for new role play. I really hope we can see something like this in the near future

Hey, it looks cool and would be cool to see on a PvP server, but...

-1 From me. This is an RP server and the bridge makes 0 RP sense to me. That is the same thing as putting a bridge on Alcatraz Island when it was being used as a federal prison. All it does is add a benefit of an escape risk for the inmates. The concept of a prison island is to isolate the convicted from the world, completely cut them off and make it near impossible to escape because not everyone believe it or not can swim almost a mile in realistically near freezing waters in a thin prisoner's uniform.

I say keep the island as it is, and let the devoted people take it over. A bridge would ruin the immersion for me, and the whole point of a prison island.

Not gonna lie; While I like the idea of a bridge connecting to the island itself, maybe if this community / server wasn't so much RP orientated I can see it being considered and added, but as Hollows pretty much hit the nail on the head, in a realistic sense it doesn't make any to have a bridge connect a remote island - a prison at that.

+1 it would make the island actually a feasible hotspot not requiring a 20 minute swim. Until boats are a thing, A bridge is the next best option for opening up this cool area.

I dunno why people dislike the idea of the bridge, it is still an island, the bridge can be held or walled off with current basebuilding.

It's really easy for us to build stuff like this ourselves, the problem, same now as it was back when we discussed the bridge the first time, is server performance cost due to adding bunch of stuff on the map.

If the game loaded these new buildings and stuff the same it does the base map it would be a done deal, no problem at all but in reality these are treated as persistent objects same as tents, walls and watchtowers. And we all know what happens when you walk into a compound with 20 walls around it. The fps dips to shit. Same deal here.

Maybe because it makes no sense to build a prison on an island then build a bridge to connect to the main land. The reason islands have been used in the past is to prevent prison escapes as the waters surrounding the islands were typically dangerous and would kill the prisoner if they did manage to escape.

Understandable, but why does it matter? So what if the prison island has a single road in and out, one could easily keep a bridge guarded? The point of 'there is no reason to build a prison on an island but have a bridge to it' is pretty silly considering its the perfect spot to build to.

Honestly, I look at this whole decision from a game play point of view. It would increase fun if more people could access the prison island. Who cares about the logistics or 'it was not there originally' we have all overlooked worse things in the past.

Maybe it's just me but I find the idea of the bridge and the RP that goes with it, supremely intriguing.  Without boats swimming to the prison island is a bit of a shit show.

Having prisoners escorted to the island via bridge?  Building a gate on the bridge itself?  Etc. Etc. Some cool rp opportunities.

The amount of vehicles on the bridge could maybe be reduced, nice for some cover but I think the fact that sneaking up on the bridge would be impossible would make the prison island desirable. (Also the less detail/objecrs on it and around it might make it easier to implement?)

I get the Alcatraz comparisons but this is Chernarus, not San Fran. Staff would have had to get there somehow, why not a bridge?

+1 to da bridge.

What if it was literally just the bridge and connecting building to start, to minimize the load on the server?  No cars or objects?

While I don't support the idea because of realism, it's a prison island. I support it for the roleplay value.

Prison roleplay would be an interesting type of roleplay. And it'll be very difficult to do that type of roleplay, because getting a prisoner to swim ten minutes across the channel to get locked up might not go as well as we would hope.

The idea is good, but just not realistic.

As much as I like this idea, I agree with it being a bit unrealistic. Prison Islands, in general, don't have bridges or any sort of connection to mainland. Especially it would not be convenient when you take into consideration that FPS drop will be massive, probably. Think about it though - the idea for the bridge to Prison Island would not even exsist if basic boats were implemented, spawned on the shores of the sea/lakes. That way people wanting to reach the island would have an easy way of doing so, assuming they'd find said boat first.

In terms of Lore:

Of course this doesn't really make sense. One could argue the bridge was once heavily fortified etc, but even still, no bridge would make way more sense.

In terms of Gameplay:

A new bridge could see a potential rise in the amount of interactions and traffic happening on the island, and never having been there myself (noob) it does make it a lot more appealing than to swim for who knows how long, get freezing cold etc just to arrive with possibly nobody else there.

Just some thoughts.

I'd just rather have a water pump added to the island so atleast you could farm and have the prison island be self sufficient so you wouldnt have to leave.

+1 from me. I’d love to see a bridge added to connect the island to main land.

-1, I don't think it is necessary, if people want to make RP out of the prison island then stay on it and see who shows up, I knew a few people who were there and were usually met with others, while customs things like this would be cool and unique I don't think we really need it

Though the idea is nice, I have to -1 this.

I swam across once, it took ages, I almost died - I went around it, had a good look and some initial ideas on what was possible. Then I swam back and never looked back. If a group were to "live" on the island, it would be great RP for them. I would like to see that. A bridge, would bring everyone there - I feel it is a nice little area kept for those who are willing to swim over.

+1

Islands can have bridges to them, why not this one?

Fuck that swim with DayZ's poor ass swimming mechanics

How will we add the bridge into the map though? 🤨

There's mods that physically change the map and have it in game,

I've seen a couple built, one on Trumps Wall survival pvp server. Functions effectively enough.
