The Nikitin Prodejna Event Series - Trade Post

Recommended Posts

Due to some unforeseen circumstances regarding the recent updates (DayZ SA and our Mod), this event is going to be postponed 1 week. We weren't expecting some of the issues we experienced (namely pre-spring break tests, the update interfering with in-game functions, a lack of the needed volunteers, and the uncertainty of the event server's status). Rather than trying to force an event that wouldn't meet our standards we will be taking this time to consolidate our efforts.

We will be polishing everything for next Sunday, and hope to see all of y'all there!

Had fun getting KOS'ed at the event today.

On a constructive note, set the line up in a better fashion next time and have more people enforcing everyone. The "queue" was cut into by 60% of the people there.

If you think we can physically stop people from doing it then you are kidding yourself.

It's also the first time we are doing such a thing so they will improve with time. Report the jackass who KoSed you.

I did enjoy the event for some parts, but I do feel like the people who had waited a few hours to get in got shafted really hard. I don't know why they weren't just allowed in at the end to trade, seems pretty harsh when people have spent a few hours queueing up.

Kamenici and D7 gained rep today with the group.

To all of you who actively made a difficult event a living hell for those waiting in line by punching them and generally being disruptive consider staying home next time. There's a difference in a brawl and being an asshole.

We will move to a whitelisted system as soon as Rolle gets around to it, the event server wasn't working today or yesterday and was deleting stuff.

I also still don't have tools so I'm reliant on GMs and a number of people who were going to be guards didn't show up.

I'd like to apologize to all the people that have waited for nothing. The planning of this event, while solid on paper, failed to account for several factors that we could not have foreseen until we'd actually went and done it. Please keep in mind that tonight was the first ever attempt at an event of this type and size. We understand your frustration and we acknowledge your feelings. Tonight was not the resounding success we hoped for but I personally enjoyed it, and hopefully many others did.

We will discuss tonight's event and come up with a V.2 that is more robust all around. We're all players looking to have some fun and planning/executing an event is not something we're all born being good at. Sometimes it'll work, sometimes it'll fail. Keep on having faith and we'll keep on trying.

If you have any suggestions, constructive criticism, or advice to offer, please let us know.

The picture below, although fun to see, was the main issue with the event, in my books. Like somebody else suggested, we need to move it to a better position where we can manage the people flow better and allow more in at the same time.

Other than that, I really enjoyed the singing, shittalking and the fish fight at the end. Yes, fish fight. Not a typo.

This is what the line looked like at its peak. Loving the people around here for showing up.

I mean if you showed up later on like i did you had to expect that you weren't gonna get in at an early point. All in all some parts was enjoyable and the trading worked out for me, shame they had no ammo that was of use to me though, but at least i got a bottle of vodka and some 9mm👌 People in the line also kept conversation going most of the time which was nice.

The line was advancing rather slowly though, was there a reason only 5 people were let in at a time? couldn't we have pushed it to maybe 7-10 people at a time?

I'm looking forward to seeing the event improve, getting everything 100% perfect on the first try would be impossible.

I would like to suggest maybe next time, for similar events, do not TP people to the event. But allow people to Trickle into the area naturally and organically. A LOT of lag was had by many i know. As one of the people who waited 3+ hours, to NOT be let inside. Much is to be gained from maybe some rehearsal? Maybe a dry run through with a smaller crowd? or as i said before dont TP everyone all at one time.

The issue was managing too many people in the small compound at once, that is why a restriction was in place and why those who came later or were the last to go into line were likely off badly. You can't just let all inside or it's a clusterfuck as the VOIP ranges overlap too much, nor does it help focusing on certain people and certain shenanigans will increase. There was already some questionable behaviour from a few people from my POV as guard. At least in the context of an apocalypse or if the setting was real, but I digress.

This might be fixed or handled better with a few more traders (and security) AND a bigger location, allowing more people to be managed at once. We surely learned our lessons here from what I could gather from the chatter I picked up referring to the event OOC and future events might be or feel optimized a lot. In the end, however, it also always depends a bit on everyone, not just those offering the events or playing the roles.

My personal feelings remain a bit mixed. Long story short: The event idea itself is awesome and a good way to spice up activity and whatnot. It was fun playing a guard, even though I saw some relatively questionable IC behavior from some characters that (to me, anyway) didn't make that much sense in the context of all circumstances, where I wondered if this was purely OOC motivated or if they thought this could be a good idea IC to, well, do what they did. But I digress. I picked up good vibes where some "dapper people" (you know who you are) actually appeared to engage in conversation and try to spice things up, and other simply tried to trade, which is legit in itself, but all in all it seemed a bit like assembly line work at times where you process the next group and hand out or trade shit. But perhaps I missed more of the subjectively good parts 🙂

What I also kind of liked at times is how the crowd in line eventually started to more or less occupy and entertain itself, which had some situational comedy as someone playing cliché hardbass music or so.

Bottom line, good event idea, was fun, lots of room for potential in giving people stuff to do ... with a few kinks to iron out on perhaps "both" sides. I'll surely keep an eye on this and next events will likely be managed a bit differently to avoid some stuff.

Hello everyone!

So, obviously the event and the LM/Event staff team have some things to work on. While we did expect some problems to arise so that we could iron issues out as we go, we did see a few more issues than expected.

First of all, as Major bluntly put it, the event was planned for the Event Server and unfortunately we were unable to get things to persist (Walls, items, etc.) Hopefully the Staff team can sort this out before next Sunday.

Secondly, some of people's issues with FPS lag and wishing we could take more people. To address this properly, we were concerned with the initial occurrence of VOIP lag, as well as not wanting too many people inside. We initially planned on giving groups the opportunity to, at least send collective representatives in together. Fortunately, with the experience gained by today's event we are able to work on solutions. Such as improving the event server, choosing slightly large compound areas, etc. This is the first time we've done something like this so we will work to iron out the kinks in the system.

Next, Event staff. We had a lot of volunteers who gave up their Sunday prime-time's to participate in this and for them I want to say 'Thank you' on behalf of the Loremaster team. That being said, we had expected to have a lot more guards than we did, and some of them either didn't show up or left during the event. Going forward we will be solidifying attendance of event staff so this issue should be resolved. We will also be communicating far more with them and what their goals/roles are.

Continuing, we did see an issue with people exacerbating the problem inside of the compound by being 'too scared' to leave. To those people I am sorry to say that in the future you will be escorted out by the guards. The tradepost is a small invincibility bubble. When you enter that compound, you accept that you will have to leave once you conclude your business and anyone trying to avoid doing so will be removed and potentially blacklisted. Now, hopefully it doesn't come down to this but, if you enter the compound and refuse to leave after we've tried escorting you, the guards will have permission to fire upon you. So please, trust in the community and the other event goers to not instantly initiate on you/to back you up if such a case occurs.

For those of you who participated in the trading or in the quests, and for those who didn't, going forward we're planning to increase the amount of trade staff and quest staff available (so long as interest and volunteers allow). This being the case, we want to reiterate that quests can be intercepted by other parties. Those of you who didn't get to participate we hope that by increasing the staff we will be able to increase the amount of people taken in per time, but again this depends on volunteers. (Sadly, with this increase we will likely still only have 5 characters posted per week on the thread)

Lastly, I want to remind everyone that this was the first time. Going forward there will still be issues that we will address each week. However, this event will occur every Sunday and will be different every time. If you didn't get your chance this time, please look forward to the next one. We intend to keep this event going until interest dissipates. Now, not everyone will get in to the compound. Starting next week we are going to try a few different ideas going forward which may should benefit the players experience.

tl;dr: It was a learning experience. Some issues that we didn't foresee or couldn't solve hindered the plans. We will improve the events and make them better each time.

Thank you everyone who participated! We will learn from this week's event and progress forward. I'll be posting a few things and updating the thread throughout the day to reflect the updates for next weekend. Hope to see you there!

You would have been better off having the queue inside the compound in that corridor leading to the red gate.

As for the event the later it got the more hurried it seemed meaning groups like ours were unable to get any real RP to gain rep with the trader group. I mean we didnt even know icly about the possibility of doing a quest.

So it seems one aspect to consider is time (pressure). With the limited amount of people inside at a time and seeing an army of people outside waiting to get in too, it simply was a bad flow given all circumstances. This underlines that a larger area that more people can enter at a time (or, alternatively, scheduling certain groups to come later instead of all being there pretty much from the get-go) would mean less pressure on everyone and more ability for "quests" and trading or even simply talking.

I already have a certain type of location in mind for the next one. Not that I run things, but I will suggest it internally and we'll see what comes out of it.

In the end I generally see an increased demand for TRADERS or other "special people and managers" and GUARDS. I felt we had a good but slightly overwhelmed team at times. For the future, we need more volunteers (that will also then be there). I'd say 1-3 more traders and up to 1,5 the amount of additional guards.

That means you are being called upon, community. As the Combine say in HL2: Inaction is conspiracy 😛

The quick fix is to have more people working, there were only a select few of us and it was hard to manage people coming in and out without 9 people running in at a time, we had to wait longer for some people whilst trading as we only had 3 traders, so the most noticeable way to make it flow more efficiently is to have more people working the event, and obviously the laggy town of Berenzino doesn't help with fluency but this can also be easily adjusted

I enjoyed the event, even though I never got to see the traders. But, it was fun seeing people almost behaving, having small scale conflict and a nice chat with people. Also enjoyed playing the guitar for the folks, and people sang along! Though, then there were the mood killers... Oh well. Things happen, and you can only go forward with this scale of events! Keep up the good work! Though, I agree. Teleporting people wont work. It's better that people drag in in small dribbles, rather than teleported to place. It feels little out of character to suddenly appear to place.
