Green Mtn. Radio [One-way Broadcast Freq.]

Recommended Posts

*Sam settled into the rickety and ragged, yet somehow still comfortable office chair, rolling across the radio tower to the long-range broadcasting equipment she had repaired just the day before. It was a one-way broadcasting system like the ones used at music stations before everything went to shit. She had been lucky to get it working, much less find the key to the store room at the back that had been locked up to protect the shelves and shelves of vinyl, both old and new, she had found inside.  She clicked the radio broadcasting equipment on, holding her breath for a moment as she waited for the little red light. There was a long pause before she leaned over and tapped it a bit with her nail, the diode finally flickering to life. She smiled and pulled the headphones on, setting out her notebook and a tattered almanac in front of her and starting to speak into the slightly crackly microphone.*

"Good evening to anyone listening to this inaugural broadcast of Green Mountain Radio. This is Sam Caulfield, reporting for the New York Times from the South Zagorian Province of Chernarus."

*there was a slight shuffling of paper, like the turning of the page.*

"According to the Chernarussian Farmer's Almanac, you won't have to endure this cold much longer! It seems the traditional End of Winter is upon us, and the snow should be melting by next week. Expect a fair bit of cold rain with this changing of the seasons, as well as some intense winds later into the week. Assuming, of course, that nuke in the Green Sea that gave those NATO boys such a bad time hasn't messed significantly with the weather patterns. Here's hoping."

*there was a faint crackle to the mic and the sound of another set of pages turning as the steady woman's voice continued on.*

"In further news, many of you may be familiar with the conflict that has been occurring between the group known as 'The Saviours', hailing from Novaya Petrovka, and the group known as 'The District', hailing from the infamous 'Triangle'.  There have been plentiful attacks traded between District, Green Dragon, and Saviour units, and the towns where their bases have been located have repeatedly come under heavy fire. It appears these may have been retaliatory attacks, but details remain unclear. Initial reports confirmed casualties for civilians caught in the crossfire and the Saviours having removed from the city of Novaya Petrovka in favour of more hospitable territory in Novodmitrovsk.

Radio chatter between the groups has been at an all time high and civilians are advised to proceed with caution in areas where both groups are currently encamped or engaged for the duration of the ongoing conflict. Any ongoing reports as to the outcome of this conflict will be reported on this frequency as soon as the information becomes available."

"Again, this has been Sam Caulfield reporting for the New York Times, South Zagoria- Chernarus."

* she paused for a breath, her tone lightening up a little.*

"If anyone in the area is interested in farm fresh goods or trading, feel free to stop on by Green Mountain Radio and say Hi. Our Farmer's Market is top notch!
And now for some music. I found a sweet ass record collection.
This is Bob Dylan's 'Subterranean Homesick Blues',  Enjoy!"

*the broadcast crackled out and was followed by music*

*Sam sipped the mug curled in her hands, the steam curling off it as she flicked the switches on the broadcast system, preparing for broadcast. Her side hurt from a graze she had been tending since yesterday. Hopefully it wouldn't affect the clarity of her voice too much.*

"Good morning denizens of Chernarus! Quite the chilly one isn't it? Winter seems to be clinging to us with a death-grip, but just hang in there. Spring is a-comin!

As always this is Sam Caulfield at Green Mountain Radio, Reporting for the New York Times from South Zagoria- Chernarus.
This morning's news is interesting, if albeit a bit disheartening.
Using the long range sensors on the radio tower I have been able to pick up scattered, fuzzy bits of some long-range international broadcasts. I regret to say that the little bits I could make out do not sound terrilbly promising. For all intents and purposes it would seem that the rest of the world very likely might be in the same bad spot we are in.

Not that I can say I myself, or anyone else at Green Mountain Radio,  were terribly surprised. "

*There was a gentle rustling sound in the background as she continued, someone mumbling something, and the faint sound of a door closing as the clear, steady voice went on.*

"In other news, reports have been coming in of a wolf pack terrorising the countryside up near Svergino. They appear to be hostile to more than just the cattle and sheep in those parts so be forewarned if you are traveling on foot through that area that there have been sightings and travel prepared.
Again, this is Sam Caulfield reporting for the New York TImes, South Zagoria- Chernarus."

* A faint crackle from the microphone crossed the airwaves*
"Green Mountain Radio is having a sale on pumpkins this week, as it seems the harvest brought in more than our farmers were expecting! Feel free to head on up to see us with anything you might want to trade! Keep in mind that Green Mountain Collective does not trade in Military gear or weaponry, and those trades will not be accepted. However! We will happily accept trades of tools, clothes, ammunition, seeds, supplies, and other useful products!

Green Mountain Radio- for all your Farmer's Market needs.

And now some music to start the day for those of you already up and kicking!

This is Grand Am's 'All I Ever Do'."

*Sam settled into her spinny chair, putting her headphones on and flicking the radio on, listening to it crackling to life.*

"Good morning Chernarus- this is Sam Caulfield of Green Mountain Radio reporting for the New York Times, as always. Let's get to it shall we?

It seems the War that has consumed most of the North may be coming to an end soon. I have received reports that the large groups in the area: The Green Dragons, Saviours, The District, and others are heading to the meeting table to hash out a fix for all this.
Chernarus awaits the results of those talks with bated breath.
Hang in there everyone, it seems the end of the tunnel may be in sight!

I plan to start doing a series of occasional interviews. If any of you have terribly interesting stories you would like to share with others, let me know and we will see if we can drum up some story time for the listeners of Green Mountain Radio!

*Some faint conversation could be heard drifting up through the windows as she continued.*

"In other news, I have picked up radio signals from the Chernorussian Airforce in Miroslavl, and they have put out a category 4 Herd Warning  for the following communities:  Green Mountain, as well as Zelenogorsk, Pavlovo, Bogatyrka, Sosnovka, Myshkino, and Zvir localities and surroundings. They are expecting upwards of 1,500 undead to pass through the area in the next 36 hours. Travelers are advised to find a place that is sturdy and safe to hole up. Seek shelter with well protected larger groups, and if that is unavailable- stock up on bullets, sound proof your hiding place, and may the powers that be be with you."

* A faint crackle from the microphone crossed the airwaves*
"Green Mountain Radio is recovering from the recent attack and as such is low on trade supplies at the moment. However, we are still accepting trade and visitors so don't let that stop you from dropping by. Keep in mind that Green Mountain Collective does not trade in Military gear or weaponry, and those trades will not be accepted. However! We will happily accept trades of tools, clothes, ammunition, seeds, supplies, and other useful products!

That's all from the Eye of the storm for now, this has been Sam Caulfield of the New York Times reporting for Green Mountain Radio.

And now a vinyl with a more local flare to kick off your afternoon!
Basta's 'Moskva'."

*The frequency crackled to life later in the day than usual.*

"Afternoon Chernarus, this is Karmen Rowe with the new afternoon show. We'd like to welcome our visitors to leave questions, announcements, or missing connection broadcasts in the locked comment box at the base of the radio tower. We're also collecting cassette tapes and vinyl records to expand upon our music selections. I've managed to find a few cassettes myself while roaming the countryside. This first one was found in a military vehicle near the coast. The song was part of a mixtape by a Canadian based artist named 'grandson' whose music was politically driven. This is Bury Me Face Down."

Spoiler

"The next song on this special little mixtape comes from London based artist, Jamie N Commons. This hit, 'Not Gonna Break Me' was used in the BBC trailers for the 2016 Summer Olympics."

Spoiler

"In 2010, the American tv show 'Supernatural' featured a remake of an old Appalachian folk song. The song was originally recorded in 1920 by Moran Lee 'Dock' Boggs, a country blues banjo player, and has since been redone by a handful of artists since. This particular version is by Jen Titus, who has given in to the eerie theme of the song in this rendition of 'O Death'."

Spoiler

"Almost in retort to our previous tune, this next song is an uplifting anthem that commands the listener to persevere in spite of the tribulations life brings. Another English based artist with one of her 2016 singles, this is Laura Mvula with 'Overcome'."

Spoiler

"Speaking of Overcoming, the familiar crunch underfoot hasn't been quite so crisp lately. You may notice a bit of green peeking out through the snow in patches and the wind biting just a little less than normal. Windstorms seem as persistent as usual, but we may be seeing the end to winter just around the corner. In memory of our beloved snow, this is Styx with Snowblind."

Spoiler

"This next song was a chart-topper in 1977 despite a failed boycott attempt due to the nature of the lyrics. Even though Huddie 'Lead Belly' Ledbetter is cited as the original author of the lyrics, the origins of the song come from an African-American work song. The namesake of the song 'Black Betty' was a nickname for a musket, bottle of whiskey, a whip, or a penitentiary transfer wagon. GIven the 'bam-ba-lam' lyric in the song, it's most likely referring to the musket. This is New York based artists Ram Jam, with Black Betty."

Spoiler

"Keep the cassettes and records pouring in and we'll keep bringing you a little break from the sounds of gunfire and infected. This has been Karmen Rowe with your afternoon jams. Taking us out, this is Rammestein with Du Hast."

*Sam settled into her spinny chair, glancing out the windows of the radio tower at the sunshine with a smile before flicking the radio equipment to life.*

"Good morning Chernarus! This is your friendly neighborhood Sam, reporting from Green Mountain for the New York Times in South Zagoria- Chernarus.

It seems the Almanac was right and the snow has finally left us. It is a lovely warm spring day today. With the changing of the seasons you should expect a fair bit of rain in the coming week, but enjoy the warm sunshine!"

*there was a quiet hum as she fetched her journal notes before she began speaking again*

"As for the news, after large portions of the Horde have passed through it seems that casualties were limited. I think that is the best news we can hope for considering.

There have been reports that tensions in Zelenogorsk have also been rising, though the details on which groups are affected is still fuzzy. I will update you all again when the particulars become more apparent. As such, I caution people in the Green Mountain and Zelenogorsk areas to be more cautious.

Here is some Creedence Clearwater Revival for you all to enjoy.

And for God's sake, will you people stop shooting at each other long enough for everyone to enjoy the weather?"

"Good evening Chernarus! It's your girl Sam. I have an announcement to make that might interest you! Green Mountain Radio has decided to further our efforts to help the blended peoples of Chernarus by extending our efforts to restore news, weather, journalism, and music to the region. We are still building the framework now, but we hope to soon be able to send a team through the countryside to repair the other radio towers in the region. Our headquarters will remain here, but we will do our best to improve the quality of life of everyone in South Zagoria by performing this service. But don't worry! Your news, interviews, weather, and music will still continue as they have been. You won't miss a thing. If anything, you will be receiving in towns much farther away than at present.

If you see a small group of travelers wearing press vests don't be afraid to say hello and maybe drop us some music requests- as we will be carrying a stash of cassettes with us as well."

*the radio crackled a  little as the steady, clear voice continued on*

"I would also like to welcome the newest member to the broadcast team- Wolf Eschenbach! He will be taking over some of the tower repairs so that Karmen and I can actually get some sleep. Don't worry- you'll love him.

That's it for your afternoon news- I'll be handing things over to Karmen soon.
Here is some Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell with 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' to tide you over.
Enjoy your day!"

Karmen winces as she settles into the chair at the top of the tower. She curses the climb and makes mental notes to ask if they can patch in another broadcasting room on ground level. A few pained breaths are heard prior to her message.

"Afternoon Chernarus. Who knew farming and broadcasting could be so dangerous?" There is a pause as she catches her breath. "In 1979, Rupert Holmes crooned to us about a dead end relationship that had gotten stale, making it the last number one hit song in the 70s. Today it was a request left by an unnamed individual, dedicated to a lady named Fifi. Fifi, if you're listening, this is for you. Escape, by Rupert Holmes."

Spoiler

"While we're rolling out the love songs, I would like to make a dedication of my own. To whoever shot me last night, this is for you."

Spoiler

"Love you long time, boo. For those of you who come up to the mountain for the locals, we may be going on tour soon. Be on the lookout for our white armbands and blue jackets. Feel free to come to say hello, make song requests, or pass along your questions." Pained breathing can be heard in the distance as Karmen turned her head from the mic to catch her breath. She shuffled her papers and peered over one of the questions she'd found in her lockbox. "Speaking of questions, we have a lockbox at the bottom of the tower in Green Mountain where you can ask me questions or make requests. I got a few questions today, some serious, some not. Let's just power through them."

"This first one comes from ... E. Lord. 'Yo K, Is she single, though?' Um... I'm not sure who she is, but probably. It is the end of the world after all. The next question was unsigned and reads, 'What is the best way to smuggle drugs through Vybor?' The answer is probably don't. Especially since you just asked a radio station whose only form of answering you is to broadcast said answer to the country. I wouldn't know the answer to this regardless. We'll be back with a few more questions after this next song. Coming to you with the Green Mountain Radio's tour theme, this is SonReal with Everywhere We Go."

Spoiler

"'Dear Karmen, Are you guys going to be making alcohol? Signed, I Don't Have a Problem. Well, miss or mister, likely not. Maybe one of our listeners will catch the brewing bug and supply you. If you're listening out there, looks like there's an untapped market out there. I'll let Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats sing your woes for you."

Spoiler

"And our final question of the day is once more unsigned and reads... 'Karmen. Do you want to smash?' ... Um. What? Probably not a good idea to smash things when I have a broken rib but uh... Thanks for asking? Let's keep with the alcohol theme, this next one goes to a special someone who will remain unnamed. Lake Street Dive, You Go Down Smooth."

Spoiler

"A week ago, roughly, I was running through an abandoned military base looking for a backpack when I came across a gentleman who was fond of my Tims. Ten minutes later, his buddy was randomly popping out of some bushes. The next three hours I was escorted by what I would later come to find out was the leader of a prominent group and one of his soldiers. He has quickly become a dear friend, despite our many brief arguments. In honor of that friendship, please accept this next song as an apology for the disrespect your men experienced yesterday."

The frequency comes back to life, crackling as it does so. Karmen's voice is shaky and soft, missing the usual confidence. "Evening Chernarus. I am coming to you to correct an error in my previous broadcast. Due to recent injuries and the use of pain medication, I misremembered details of the peace treaty and switched names. I left out that the Saviors signed the peace agreement, and it was a single Green Dragon that fired on a New Moon. I apologize for my error and any tensions that this may have caused. Needless to say, I'm vastly out of my element and nothing I studied is going to help me here. My alignments are with the Green Mountain Radio and friends I've made along the way. I'm not one for politics, I just want to help people, play music, and report the news. So there you have it, the summary of who I am. Stay tuned for... A better jab at reporting the news."

Her voice took a serious tone from the intro, remaining even as she did her best to not show emotion one way or another concerning the topic at hand. "Late last night a firefight broke out in New Paris between District and French Foreign Legion. One civilian was reported injured. I reached out to the Ryan Shepherd to confirm the involvement of the District. According to Mister Shepherd, the second in command of District, Paddy O Connor, was executed by nationalists in Chernarus due to their dislike for foreigners. Shepherd feels that the existence of New Paris and the lack of retaliation by the nationalists is suspicious and is the reason the District targeted New Paris. He ended our private transmission by vowing to hunt down any man, woman, or child who had a part in Paddy O Connor's death." The turning of a page can be heard in the background. "When asked for a statement on the accusation made by Shepherd towards the French Foreign Legion, Sous-Lieutenant Jamal Moore said briefly, 'It's all lies.'"

"We have gotten reports of a man by the name of Octavian robbing people in Green Mountain and surrounding areas. He is not associated with any known group and I have been unable to obtain the last name at this point in time. Please stay safe out there. This has been a heavy broadcast, so I'm going to let the music take us out on a high note. This is Karmen Rowe, signing off."

"Afternoon Chernarus. We are a resilient people, aren't we? The amount of trauma each one of us endures on a daily basis is astonishing, and somehow we get up and we keep going. Somehow, we keep surviving. The scars are rent to the bone, and we carry the memories of those we've lost. It's not easy to let go or move on, but somewhere deep inside of us, we have to find a way. I'd like to start an 'In Memoriam' block every Sunday. I welcome your requests and any words of remembrance you'd like read on air in honor of those we've lost."

The frequency fizzles "Oh Bobby thinks he got it working. Um he.. hello Chernarus I am Bobby, uh yes bobby's name is Bobby and Bobby is announcing a new Broadcast for green mountain radio that Bobby will call Exploring With Bobby. in this broadcast, Bobby will be traveling to cities all around Chernarus to tell you people about good travel routes, local food different groups, and their cultures in that area."

"The first city we have is Zelenogorsk located just south-west of green mountain. interviewing locals Bobby has found to be difficult for example there is a group who call themselves Hobo Depot who had greeted Bobby by what they describe to be a hobo death fight which seems to involve the beating and ruining of Bobby and his clothes.  However, Bobby has been told by what they seem to view as a leader that they are a traveling group that doe not like staying in one place for more than a month so they should be away from the Zelenogorsk area soon Bobby thinks."

"However Bobby has also met other locals in Zelenogorsk a couple with the man claiming that he was born and raised in Zelenogorsk. The man informs Bobby that the city is run by the Kozlovs who do not like foreigners especially Russian and middle-eastern and don't like people going into military or government buildings like police stations and hospitals. The man also said to Bobby that the local attractions would be the well where you will find most travelers going and the pub. when Bobby asked for any local foods they eat the man had said vodka so Bobby has made a recipe for the city Bobby it the Red Zelenogorsk soup with cooking help from a good friend. the way to make it will be to fill a cooking pot with vodka and simply throw anywhere from 4 to 7 tomatoes in and heat it up and that should allow you to truly experience the culture of the city. the man had also warned of the large infected Groups being common in the city and would not recommend traveling through the city without someone to watch your back. that is all Bobby has to report on the current city of Zelenogorsk."

"That was a wonderful show, Bobby. I can't wait for the next installment of Exploring with Bobby. Let me tell you, this man is a natural stew maker. You would never think tomatoes and plums can go in the same pot, but he managed. Hoping our guest stops by in the next... Twenty minutes or so. Stay tuned."
