go for a out of the box character. like a stripper or prostitute. make a character thats not your average sob story or someone that could survive an apoclypse make it some one that just survives off of luck or have someone that won't last and make him goofy as fuck.

i have never seen a honest to god priest. i have seen cultists and different styles of relgion but never a priest witch a serious back story.
hobo's have been done and have had groups but i haven't seen a solid hobo. gruffy old man with  bunch of stories and the casual who cares whats going on i got beer.
theres a plathora of shit not done or not done a certain way you can create a orginal piece.

When it comes to new characters, particularly for people who don't know what they want to make, I always give a few suggestions:

Don't marry a concept before you know you'll be comfortable with it. Run a few scenarios through your head, try to look at the character concept as a few words or a short sentence that defines the character on the most base level before you put any detail into it. An example could be Harry Potter "A young boy just learning he's a wizard" just so you have a gist of what it is you're going to be building on.

Is this concept appealing? Is it something you'll be able to stick with? Is it a one note character? If the concept is "A guy who memes a lot" that may sound funny and be interesting at the time of conception but the staying power of the character is related to what you feel like you can do with it. Now obviously that concept can be made into something that's fun, deep, and moving as a person, but it's probably best to stay with something like, as Graipy said "A priest who has lost his flock."

The next thing is that everyone should probably go about answering the 20 (Or really 19 since one of them doesn't apply to this setting) questions for character creation. They help immensely to flesh out a character and give you an idea of how to create something with a sort of skeletal structure. Instead of just being an amorphous blob of ideas you end up with a character that has a backbone, morals, views, and ideologies.

20 Questions for Character Creation

Now at this point you have a character, but it's not quite polished to the point where you would be proud to put it out into the wider world like a character in a book that could be read by thousands of people.

This is where, especially in a game where VOIP is present and used quite a lot, you can get use out of practicing, running yourself through some exercises, basically just role-playing with yourself as the character to get a handle on their mannerisms, to test drive the answers you gave for those 20 questions and see if anything clashes, to give yourself some imaginary set pieces and to walk through them and get into character properly.

A really simple example of this is "You run into a person on the road" and gauging how your character reacts. What does he look for? Use the answers and build something even if you have to sort of "play" both parts yourself to get a better grasp on how the life of the character comes through.

What if the person is wounded? What if they're being chased by a zombie? What if they're starving and begging for food or water? Running through simple scenarios and doing it seriously, as if this were something you were doing with a group of people and you were trying to give your best as far as RP goes, can help with making any character something that people will want to interact with.

So why did I divulge all that without answering the question first? Because mundanity can be interesting, and it can even be part of what makes a character interesting to interact with. I'm not suggesting that's exactly what you should shoot for, but the care you put into making the character, more than the central concept that originally defines them, matters more to the final product in my opinion. A simple, pious man can be more intriguing than a devout priest, just like someone who used to work at a sawmill can be more interesting and engaging in RP than a soldier or a psychopath.

Instead of asking for a color of clay to sculpt with, pick something that appeals to you and focus on making the sculpture the best it can be, and you'll see the color doesn't impact it as much as you might think.

That said, good luck and I hope you do find something that you enjoy playing.

Hey when you find something that works, roll with it.

But seriously yeah, just work up whatever you find different or interesting from what YOU have played, worry less about what everyone else is playing realistically. If you have never played a doctor, but so far you've only played a Russian soldier, play a doctor for a bit! The change of pace is really refreshing and can keep the burnout from playing to much low. It doesnt matter that there are 50 doctors running around, if you have never played it, its new to you.

If you wish to go out of the box, thats where things get a little more complicated. For something that people never do or havent seen before, think deep into it, give it some test runs before fully commiting and bounce idea's off others. For example, I was/still am planning a character around Hotline Miami's main character 'Jacket'. Now in Hotline Miami, Jacket is mute, but in Payday 2's version of Jacket, he uses a tape recorder with pre-recorded voices on it and mixes them together to create his voice lines. Its an interesting way to go about things, however its very difficult to do considering all the time spent cutting voice lines from the main track, binding them to keys and soundboards, running them through virtual audio cable so they will play through the game itself. Its alot of work that got exhausting, but many other problems arose when I began to put things into practical applications. Sometimes a character concept is good, but when put into practice it can fall apart.

@Lucass just for that I am making a child character!

Actually there are a few who play strippers/porn stars already and its quiet funny running around with one particular who isnt afraid to talk about the dirty stuff. Its funny how awkward some people get about it.

But for me I like to play mentally ill characters, but not in the normal way. Not the I am a killer and want to KILLLL! I play it different like my schizo chara who is simply paranoid and is more a harm to herself than to anyone else. Shes normalish but has points where its simply fun to say...did you guys see that....did you hear that? An it makes everyone else a little jumpy too.

Play something that not a lot go for, just try and play it well.

@Scar Make a hypochondriac who is terrified to do anything outside of his chemical gear. You could use the flat green gorka gear + Gas Mask (not GP-5) + black gloves and wellies as a "Chemical Suit" until the proper NBC Suit is released in 0.63. I think it'd be interesting to be kind of scared in this grimey, bloody, and filthy world- yet still trying to survive and interact in the world rather than just tucking away forever. Maybe you can even make the bunker at Tisy a "sterile zone" in which you can live in when not on the move.

Additionally, my GF made me think of this classic:

Spoiler
