Greifing of tents

Recommended Posts

Yo, i have recently been trying to set up a tradingpost i verious locations my RP take me. And It's in my groups goals to have one open. But i must say the greifing of these locations have been crazy. I can take when stuff get stolen and all But Almost every night i have to run and get new tents. The tradingpost and the gear inside is not for myself But for others and gives RP situations.

I am Looking for some advise on What to do now when the fun is getting drained after all this. I know there is nothing you can really do against it or anything. But i think as We are a community it makes No sence to destroy What others builts for RP reasons. And like i said the stuff inside is for everyone on the server who Wanna come trade.

What can i do to not have to stop having a tradingpost? Cuz right now this is really removing the fun out off it.

Hire security or just invite dudes to your group that play when you are not there.

Its hard to get people to be there 24/7 and the tents seems to be removed in the off hours when hardly No one is on.

I agree with the sentiment that this destroys some RP opportunities that could be pretty fucking cool, but it's just one of those things that won't change. Tents, and camps in general, are fair game, and it's only griefing if they just toss what they find on the ground.

Personally, I wouldn't dream of fucking with a camp like The Railroad's, because all you guys do is provide RP possibilities, but in all fairness that is a very OOC choice on my part, so others taking whatever the fuck they want is honestly more "correct."

But yes, it sucks.

If people wanna steal stuff its cool but then again you gotta catch them in the act so yeah I know now it's now punishable with the rule changes so just hope to best you find them and report them aye?

The griefing of tents is a DayZ-Issue since the first introduction of tents in general and so far I have barely seen any successful reports regarding this. Its annoying and destroys a lot of work, immersion and RP-potential for literally no reason - but I'm afraid that there is no cure for this sadly.

Stealing is okay in my book, as long as you're stealing things you're actually going to use in a reasonable time period. Trashing a trade post for the sake of it is a dick move. There's not much to be done unless you have round the clock security, which is kinda impossible because people have lives.

Yeah, i see there is nothing you can do about it. Sucks when you come to the camp and see gear you spent hours collecting just laying on the ground. Then you have to start over again and wait for the next time. Just feel behavior like this and tossing out 30+ clothing items is in Poor taste in a community like this.

Our group is pretty much made to give others RP. i hope .63 or modding in the future can help with this. :)

I started using the blue tents more for the sake off not being as valuable. I also lock them in garages at my tradingpost. But the one green tent is gone Almost every night. There been times where i got a tent, log out to eat for 30 min then coming back to it being gone.

Unfortunately this is why we cannot have nice things and sometimes the few sometimes think it is amusing to cause issues like this. As others have said, stealing from tent is perfectly OK but deliberately leaving items on the floor to de-spawn is not.

May I suggest regularly moving areas just to be more of a nomadic trading post, as soon as you set up in one area and do not have the man power for someone to be there the entire time you become a target for people wanting to ruin your day.

If you do ever collect any evidence (vid etc.) of someone deliberately griefing your tents please report it.

It just sucks when people want to destroy others fun like this. I just logged in for today all all but one tent is gone. That is four blue ones and one green in less then twelve hours. I guess i know what im doing today. Haha.

You are in look as I literally wrote an entire guide on this topic based on my experience from the mod days. It requires extra work, but it is worth it :)

Yeah i get how you feel, we had like a few little bits and bobs taken, like a saline bag, and a iv start kit, then the dudes came back took literally all our ammo (Or usable 3 rows of 9mm, and all 5.56?) Fucking ridiculous, and i do believe at some point a tent was just taken. Like i understand bandits and IC motives, but is there really an IC motive for stealing 5 saline bags, and a enough ammo to provide to a small army.
Like we have excess for trade, not our own keep sakes and IC it makes sense for us to stockpile our supplies like this, but feeling so insecure at your own camp because people roll in when you're all offline just seems a bit shit imo.

Good luck getting those tents back, and lets hope that some people ease up on you guys in Stary, i'd like to actually do some trade one day with you guys. : P

EDIT: Not sure if it's maybe a few players with a bit of the Old Dayz standalone mind set getting into RP, or people claiming to be bandits so they just take it.

The sad thing is, tents can be found easily if people could be bothered going to get their own. But is seems some people see a tent and think "Hey, I need a tent for whatever reason, I'll have that one." Empty it out and take the tent so they can store their 6 M4's that they also need for some reason. Either that or just run with it for a while, realise they don't actually need the tent and set it up some place that they will inevitably forget, or someone else finds it and takes it. Maybe even you.

Like people have said, you see a tent and manage to sneak in and take SOME items, then hey, it's not stealing, its redistribution of valuable materials for the good of the remaining human race. But if you empty out the tents just to steal an item you can find in literally any big city or military area.... You are just a dick. Just a limp floppy dick.

Stealing items in the tent i dont care about at all. Just having to constantly loot tents get boring. I had one tent left today and went to NWAF to get a new green tent. When i come back my last tent is packed on the ground with everything that was inside next to it. This is What boils my blood right now.

Literally had 3 guns and shit tons of stuff in my tent only to log in and everything including the tent itself is gone lol i mean lets be real to take all of the shit i had in my tent you needed a minimum of 2 people and they had to have nothing on them with an alice pack and vests etc plus it was so far away from anything, like literally you would have to run a minimum of half an hour or more to the closest area of known populous and its not like you would run with a party searching for shit where i had my tent set up lmao its sad really.

If I come across a stash of tents I know belong to people that are enemies, I steal what I can then start a fire and burn the rest of the contents and put them back into the tent to simulate I burned their tent. I think it's fine if done tastefully.

Collect barrels take important things to your hidden barrels before you log. It's work but you won't get yeated. Otherwise don't setup a trading post if you don't want it to get stolen from because it will be

Yeah update, so new camp also seems to have been found and repeat of what happened to you niccokick, just took our tents and everything in it and just wandered off. i mean honestly i really don't mind being robbed either, but when it's during inactive time, it just feels so shit. guess relocating is just part of life in this, world full of peeps just wanting all of your shit tents included xD

Edit: oh yeah and our two sedans, guess i know how they moved it all!

My recommemdation to try and counter this, get a crap of tents and just fill them with stuff, doesnt even matter if its stuff you'll use. It'll help prevent people who just want to quickly steal a tent and even if they steal 1 or 2, you'll have a bunch left. Best bet is to hit up Novaya appartements for tents,  i've regularly found 3-5 tents there and you can also go to tizzy for military tents. Keep tents out of sights from main roads, the less people who see them wandering through town the better. Keep in compounds and buildings that are big enough.

In Socialists, we had roughly 20 tents that were never stolen because they were always filled with junk and it was out of the way.

Hope it helps.

Genuinely think people need to learn how to better hide assets / relearn how to make their settlements griefer resistant (no such thing as greifer-proof).

I have seen too many groups give up, close shop and move on when frankly? If grafted upon and done right, we could make some pretty awesome settlements!

Personally I'm starting to build up towards starting a trade post, but I'm taking the long road as I cannot realistically start it until after my uni exams.

But that doesn't mean I'm not willing to help others set up theirs!

Move aside Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares, say hello to Alistair Monroe's Tradepost Nightmares!

Let's start with you :P
There is your problem.
What is loud, really easy to see, and gives away the position of your camp...
Cars... Cars should be at LEAST 2000 meters away from your "stash" and should NEVER be took to your stash. Using cars to get resources to stashes is nice and convenient, but almost always gives away it's position on a semi-full server...

But in turn spams of 20 tents are the reason we have persistence wipes every month :/

The "brute force method" as I like to call it works, but makes your camp less desirable due to performance issues.

Genuinely playing it smart, and doing it right and subtly can be way more rewarding than brute forcing it ^_^

I guess trading posts or public spots are at a general disadvantage - sadly.

I usually manage to hide my shit well, and on average I have rather long "discovery" or "theft" times. But then again I do not set up known or big trading posts that are advertised. Those that do and cannot literally be around almost 24/7 always have that abstract disadvantage of being targeted. I think they have to live with the risk or basically have most of their stuff hidden and move it over during "open hours", or resort to direct trading where clients are served individually, not in a static market-like environment where you can come and go any time.

Future versions or mods might make it easier for us to maintain such camps. Just like the mechanics for locking doors can be further improved, I can see this with those persistent storage entities like tents.

Yeahhhh, we did have it quite a bit away, i guess they just put two and two together, we hid them quite deep in a different set of woods to our own xD
It was just real bad luck!

They usually do. That or, when you park and go to the stash, they follow you as they were following the car till you parked.

Also as a side note, multiple small stashes rather than one big stash.
