... I think I got PTSD from it all... Let’s never do this again. Shall we?

Also props to @Dino @Annoying Rooster @DrMax @Lemons @cheeks For helping me conduct my research. Without you guys, I’d of literally screamed.

For the stages of infection I strongly recommend reading the boards in Clinics. They provide a cool summary on how infection starts and how the symptoms gradually get worse. They're in Czech tho, but seeing the time you invested in counting zombies you surely knew that by now. Can provide you with translations if you want :) Good luck with this, looks amazing! ^^

Only problem is, the loremasters may say different but I'll check it out with them. Thank you though!

Not going to go by something I can't read without you translating for me when we already have an established Lore and process of how it occurs. xD

Ground Zero consists of a pit with piled corpses of civilians. Why and how did they get there? So close to a military base too. Assisted evacuation went wrong? Or something darker?

Looking through some old notes I remember writing about the three corpses we retrieved from the pit.

  • A young teenager
  • A suspected pregnant woman
  • Male in his twenties

A few brief scans of my report of Ground Zero I came across my old notes. Given the shock of the scenario it was the biggest thing in my career I had come across. Looking back in hindsight, I can now grasp a sense of what may be the possibilities of this outcome and reasonings why the had got there in the first place.

  • Corpses hits with shrapnel and missing limbs which have been ditched giving ideas of local warfare?

Decayal of bodies left to be either:

Bodies have been there for longer than 2 weeks perhaps with the assistance of bacteria/organisms to assist in deterioration. The weather would help to prevent a fast decomposition rate.

  • Rotting of the bodies is assisted with radiation or biological contamination or radiation
  • Looking back on previous notes it leaves me wondering:
  • Where did the civilians first come from?
  • Why they were placed in a pit and not a burial?
  • Were they caught in a crossfire or was it purposely done?
  • Rotting bodies assisted with biological contamination, chemicals or the radiation?
  • Where they left to suffer?

There are three locations that can show where the civilians came from:

  • Kamensk (5) - Least numbers - One of the three towns closest to military compound
  • Nagornoe (14)
  • Severograd (30)

Looking back on the research down through the 75 towns (refer to (1) for more information) it shows the total result of the towns which Kamensk had the least population of people. If assuming correctly, maybe the people within the pit are most likely from Kamensk town.

Due to the shrapnel found within the bodies of some of the deceased it brings on the thought of them being:

  • Caught up in gang or criminal activity/warfare.
  • Caught up in a military warfare.
  • Attempted evacuation whilst terrorist attack.

Given the location of where the bodies were dumped so close to and within the military compound; I am going to also assume they were caught up in military warfare (which is the most likely suspicion to go off of).

A few days ago I heard a radio transmission from Tivian Escha going to Ground Zero even though had been warned previously and on multiple occasions of the radiation and biological hazards that existed in the area. On the investigation he had done, burnt paper work was discovered. Last we had searched the area, there was no paperwork to be found. Nothing existed, so someone must’ve planted it there.

Who? It is unknown.

Why? Maybe to turn our eyes away from the true story.

Apparently it read something about the the cold war era and contained information about a shipment of barrels and canisters that we to be shipped to Kamensk. This gives me a definite conclusion the people from Kamensk are the people in the pit. Especially with the threat 'curious cats sometimes go missing and you might go back up there and never return.' that came across the radio to Mr. Escha suspects illegal acts from the military. Along with this, the unknown voice seemed to suggest the infection was started within the area. If so, this may mean biological weapons have been made.

  • Where did the civilians first come from? Kamensk - Confirmed
  • Why they were placed in a pit and not a burial? Illegal military act - Most Likely
  • Were they caught in a crossfire or was it purposely done? Seems on purpose - Cover up story
  • Rotting bodies assisted with biological contamination, chemicals or the radiation? Possible biological weapons created and did not want public to find out which failed which concludes to why civilians thrown in pit. Was placed somewhere that was cordoned off from public which has been compromised. - Most likely
  • Where they left to suffer? Most likely not - Not fully confirmed

In my unprofessional opinion I wish I could give them a proper burial instead of a mountain of corpses… However that would be tampering with evidence and surely enough the bodies have decayed to a point where picking them up, you’d be having a slab of skin attached to your hand melted from their body, so to say. With adding up the equations it seems highly suspicious on the dark secrets South Zagoria are hiding. I may have to add more things to these notes if anything is to come up.

(To be continued...)

Find out the full stages of the infection. Some primary information is already collected as evidence.

I’ve currently wrote up in previous research details about how this infection/disease may spread but has not been confirmed for definite. My assumptions have been circling around one particular area of this whole infection itself. Immunity. Though this is not my field of work, I can only help but to guess. I need answers. Everyone needs answers. From the research I have managed to conduct the infection is spread into open wounds from the infected by:

  • Blood
  • Semen
  • Vaginal Fluids
  • Faeces
  • Sweat
  • Saliva

However, immunity is a state of balance of multicellular organisms that are capable of biological defenses to fight infections, diseases or other biological invasions. Especially being sufficient enough to avoid allergies or other autoimmune diseases such as:

  • Type 1 Diabetes
  • Vasculitis
  • Celiac disease

Perhaps this has been a problem for a while. Looking back to high school knowledge, I remember what my tutor had simplified things down to. The Key and Lock system, how the white blood cells produce antibodies to kill the antigens. The antibodies being a key and the antigens being the lock - this unlocking immunity or strengthening the system so it does not occur for longer periods. Perhaps the virus/disease/infection has been a problem that a majority of the world have managed to create a way to be ‘immune’ to this. If so, this brings greater news to share with the WHO.

However what makes this research more intriguing was the fact of two things:

  • A man I attempted to help named Vojtech
  • Posters I found slanted up in the medical buildings within a majority of South Zagoria

Vojtech seemed to of been bitten by one of the infected which we were called down by the CDF in assistance to help him. The man’s behaviour was like no other, the only way to describe it was like he was on fire. I attempted to keep him cool and keep his temperature down since it recorded at an absurd temperature. I couldn’t save the samples I had taken which consisted of mouth and bite swabs and blood samples. Before I could grab the samples into my bag, a firefight broke out by unknown people. I think myself and Officer Nedved stomped on them to escape; we had tried saving Vojtech however his brains splashed over myself and Officer Nedved.  In better news, the only thing I managed to salvage was my notebook with the following recorded:

  • Temperature: 41.5 Celcius (Normal - 37 Celcius)
  • Eyes: Dilating / Responding
  • Ears: Red / Burning
  • Mouth: Nothing out of the usual
  • Skin: Sweating
  • BPM: Racing at 120 BPM (normal 60-100 BPM in resting position)
  • Blood pressure: High
  • Breathing: Hyperventilating / Heavy
  • Behaviour: Described like he was on fire
  • Hands and feet: Burning
  • Additional Notes: About 18 hours ago according to Vojtech

In the end, I cannot refer to whether this was apart of the infection or not hence leading to a dead end but placed within records of this file in case it does make a reappearance. Onto the posters within the medical buildings, I managed to use the Czech book to translate letters as well as the help of Captain Hawk. On the poster it relates to words along with:

The main symptoms of the Flu:

  • Coughing
  • Red and Black stains on the skin (perhaps bruising symptoms)
  • Muscle cramping
  • Deteriorated ability to thinking
  • Deteriorated hand and leg coordination
  • Appetite to human flesh

How to defend against ‘the flu’:

  • Eat a lot of vegetables
  • Use alcohol to clean oral cavities
  • Wash hands at least 30 seconds
  • Avoid contact with infected

Some of these notes I have taken into account with my own whilst monitoring the infected and their behaviour pattern; though I cannot professionally do this myself it is better than nothing at all. All infections will work in stages to identify in the later future if needed to reference too. I have come up with a slight way on where the times come around and how it forms to becoming sick.

I finally managed to get a response from WHO headquarters, the news is important. I can’t believe they finally managed to get back to me. Letter managed to fix the pylons better than I ever thought, the signal was strong and words clear as day. I wrote it in my notebook but can write it in a more readable script. Things are finally coming through, my research and documentation as well as others within Chernarus have finally managed to source how the infection works. The infections works in 4 stages. It manifests within sixteen hours but can be delayed by severity of inflicted wounds, immunocompromised status or the stability of the infection itself like the host; this refers back onto the fungi taking control of the ants mind, also known as ‘Ophiocordyceps unilateralis’ which is an entomopathogen.

Stage One

Usually takes about one to six hours before the host starts displaying the signs of the infection. Signs such as: high fever, sweats, nausea, vomiting and a sickly/pale skin tone.

Stage Two

Comes around at the fourth to tenth hour. The victim will end up with vomiting and experience body aches and shivers. This lasts for around 24 hours after stage two has begun if the victim has not turned. At this point, it is believed the victim is ‘immune’ to infection and building antibodies to fight the infection hence not ‘turning’.

Stage Three

The ‘turning point’ is known to be stage three; it manifests at around ten to twelve hours after the infection. Symptoms will begin to show and the victim at this point cannot be saved. Symptoms such as blackening blood/veins as the blood coagulates and thickens as black film/secretion from the mucosal linings such as the mouth, eyes and genitals. According to WHO this will appear around the mouth first whilst being accompanied by vomiting black bile like fluid. The lymph nodes will begin to swell and close the airways, making breathing more labored and wheezy.

Stage Four

The victim is still alive and breathing, not a zombie which everyone has referred to, and has been taken over by the infection. They exhibit rabid-like symptoms and behaviour such as increased sensitivity to sound i.e vehicle engines and gunshots that are suppressed. Increased aggression, intense jerk like motions, inability to focus, unresponsive behaviours, excessive saliva (sometimes black/brown if recently being ‘turned’) and lack of fine motor skills such as picking up objects between the thumb and finger, writing carefully, and even blinking. Even though the infected are not blind, it has been speculated that they cannot see well anymore and backed up with the theory of hearing. It may be taken upon within inspection that a newly infected will have lymph node swelling around the neck and underarm which is extremely noticeable, sometimes from a distance. This happens between twelve to sixteen hours after infection.

Search the behaviour and movement of the infected requested by the W.H.O. - Any common notices or behaviour shown by the infected.
In no way shape or form does this research conducted come from a behaviour specialist or psychologist. This was conducted due to the request from the W.H.O. Research done but not an accurate form of behaviour by a Forensic Scientist. Charts have been drawn up how behaviour specialists would represent however statistics unable to be calculated without expert help.

NWAF Airfield -
Recorded with Officer Baz, spectating the military infected due to the background of their training. The occasional jittering of movement would happen however no environmental factors triggered any aggression from the being. The risk of being hurt was very high, I had to consider the safety of my co-worker. Due to their being a large group of the infected, we chose to climb a tower and use binoculars to observe the scene.

Kabanino -
Attempting to be within a house and observe a female infected did not work what we wished to. I conducted the research with Officer Baz once more. However a man passed through the town before we started the timer and we lost sight of the infected. We moved around the town to observe a male infected. We kept our distance and observed if they communicated between each other without knowledge of others being there. Seemed to be vocal growling/gurgling but nothing out of the ordinary - perhaps communication like a foreign language but cannot be professional specified. Grouped with another male, looked to be father figure - cannot also be specified.

Crawled a tower, listening to the environment which was more trafficked with non infected. An individual stopped twice in the field close to the infected. He did not make enough noise or closeness to grasp the attention of the infected. However infected did show irritation/aggressiveness towards gunshots in the distance and seemed to circle oneself.

Stary Sobor -
Had to be out in a more open area to collect data on the infected so it would not be ‘not visible’. Unfortunately after a while she spotted myself and Officer Baz observing her to which we jogged. She could not catch up, constantly being aggressive until we ran quicker and her losing stamina.

Windy Village -
Yet again, observed the female infected which she ended up wandering and bumped into a chicken. Immediately she began to chase it. I have not seen an infected be so eager in that regard and kill it. She then proceeded to eat the bird raw which brings concerns if the infection does not recognise the dangers of Salmonella.

Female 3

Vybor -
Observed infected in field, see if they use apples as a source of food which did not interest them whatsoever. Unfortunately we managed to catch the attention of her and immediately ran. This did not stop me from counting however I would class myself and friends (Major Holmen and Mason Thompson) as environmental factors that change behaviour of the infected. Eventually she did stop. She circled the spot, trying to look for us. Showing not only agitation but confusion - anger that she somehow lost us.

What was the most and least commonly observed behaviour?
Males:

  • Most: Walking (28 marks)
  • Least: Running & Eating (0 marks)

Females:

  • Most: Vocalisation (18 marks)
  • Least: Eating (4 marks)

Is there a significant difference in the proportion of time spent on the most and least commonly recorded behaviour? Yes.

Did time of day influence behaviours seen? Perhaps, conclusion unknown.

How could this study be improved? A large team, putting the infected in captivity, mirrored windows to prevent distraction of the infected chasing non-infected (which also prevents harm).
What other factors may have influenced behaviour? Weather, wildlife, research team, noises i.e guns, close footsteps, vehicles etc.
How might numerous recorders impact on the results? It will give a more specific calculation on statistics on how the behaviour of a plethora of infected is impacted on a homosapien.
For what proportion of time did each behaviour occur?
