Greenland is a country that is located within the Danish Realm. It is located between the Arctic and the Atlantic Oceans. Greenland is the world's largest island, three quarters of the island by the only permanent ice-sheet outside of Antarctica. The population of Greenland is estimated to be around 56,480 people. Greenland has been inhabited on and off over the past 4,500 odd years by various peoples from a wide range of locals. The Arctic peoples who migrated from Canada were some of the first to arrive and inhabit Greenland calling it home. Many years later Norsemen settled on the island in the Southern part of the island. As the years went on many peoples came and left until in the 18th century Greenland became one with Denmark and Norway both claiming sovereignty over the island. Over time Norway became weaker and lost their control over Greenland and in 1953 Greenland became a part of the Danish Realm under the Consititution of Denmark.

During World War Two Greenland was totally separated from Denmark after Nazi Germany took over Denmark. During this time the United States seen Greenland as having some importance and occupied it until 1945. After World War Two the people of Greenland managed to get their first taste of some sort of independence which led to them making steps towards becoming a modern welfare state.

Geography:

The total area of Greenland is 2,166,086 km squared. The Greenland ice-sheet covers 1,755,636 km squared of the total surface area of Greenland. Greenland has many mountains the tallest of which is Gunnbjørn Fjeld at 3,700 m (12,139 ft) of the Watkins Range in Eastern Greenland.

Scientists have found many interesting things deep down in Greenland's ice caps. The oldest plant DNA was discovered 2km deep in Greenland's glacier. This also indicates that during the last interglacial period, 130,000 years ago, when local temperatures were on average 5 °C (9 °F) higher than now, the glaciers on Greenland did not completely melt away or so is the general thought.

Politics:

The Kingdom of Denmark is a constitutional monarchy which has Queen Margrethe II as it's head of state. In recent times the monarch is only used for ceremonial reasons such as the departing and bringing in of a new Prime Minister.

Greenland has a party system in place in which The Social Democratic Forward Party has control over with the Democratic Socialist Inuit Community Party comming in second for control. Both parties want greater independence from Denmark. In 1985, Greenland left the European Economic Community, unlike Denmark, which remains a member. The EEC later became the European Union. Greenland retains some ties with the EU via Denmark. However, EU law largely does not apply to Greenland except in the area of trade. Greenlands Head of State appoints a High Commissioner to represent the island, the commissioner at the time of the outbreak is Mikaela Engell. The head of government is the Prime Minister, usually the leader of the majority party in Parliament. The current Prime Minister is Aleqa Hammond of the Siumut Party.

Outbreak:

The outbreak had little to no effect on Greenland for quite an extended period of time. Due to Greenlands social isolation and location on the globe it was one of the safest places to be on the planet during the infections spreading. Due to it's cold climate and low population Greenland became one of the worlds evacuation and research points during the initial days of the infection just after the fall of the United States. With the fall of the United States the rest of the world needed to act swiftly to restore some form of order and preserve the rest of humanity. The United Nations needed a point to begin some serious research into the infection, the virus and how to combat it. They set up a huge point of operations in Greenland near the capital of Nuuk. The goal of this research facility was to find a way to end the virus or a way to combat it's potency. The major leaders of the world gathered in the facility at Nuuk leaving others to take over their role with some countries allowing the military to maintain order and discipline. The President of the United States was also located at the Nuuk facility according to some sources but this can not be fully verified.

Greenland blocked all imports from foreign countries and only allowed controlled air traffic into the most isolated parts of the country to contain any possible outbreak. The whole country was on a lock down mode to protect the numerous refugees and top world leaders that called Greenland their current home. After distress calls were received from Canada the council which was set up to manage the virus and the efforts to stop it's further spread decided that they needed to make every effort to help aid Canada in evacuating it's people towards Greenland and establishing a Safe Zone within the country so a strike could be made against the infected. The United Nations launched a force to Canada and especially the area at and around Ottawa in order to help evacuate the healthy and exterminate the infected. With the help of The United Nations Canada managed to save many people and evacuate leading officials to the Nuuk facility, many died but many were saved to fight another day. The Canadian Prime Minister stepped down in order to join the council in Nuuk which left Rob Nicholson as Prime Minister in his stead. As time passed contact was lost with Ottawa and resources could not be spared to go investigate what happened as matters in Europe took precedence.

Greenland continued to research the infection and try to find a way to stop the virus that caused the infection. Not much else is known on what is currently happening in Greenland except for a few stories by survivors who knew or heard of people from Nuuk. Only time will tell if they found a cure or a way to combat the virus and the infection it caused.

Another pretty good read. Im questioning how a country of less than 60000 and thats covered in mostly ice is able to support a massive influx of refugees during the infection?

Its nearly impossible to farm in greenland. Im fairly certian they rely on imports of produce from around the world.

They tell the refugees that the yellow snow is edible. And since they are canadian, they politely thank their generous hosts for their kindness

Greenland became a hotpoint for the UN to makensure a facility at Nuuk. As you see I haven't gone into detail on the facility yet. It will come and your questions will be answered.
