DayZ doesn't work most of the time.

Question

Wendigojames    14

So for the past few weeks every time I try and get on DayZ a message pops up and says "Unable to locate a running instance of DayZ". I click okay and wait a minute and it finally comes up. But for the past few days, it just hasn't worked at all, giving the same message but doesn't ever come up after I click okay. I usually have to restart my laptop a few times before it finally works again. I've verified my files, but it still doesn't work.

I had this problem, only "easy" fix I could find that worked was just to delete Steam and all it's contents and redownload steam. I'm sure their is another way but to many loopholes for me.

Do you have this problem only with DayZ?

Just like Crunk said try to reinstall DayZ.

Also have you tried to run the game as an Administrator?

I'll try that. Would that reset my character in game? Don't really wanna be surprised if I get back in game after and be like "Wtf!" And yeah. it's just this game

Things to try:

-Run Steam as Administrator.

-Go to your DayZ directory, look for DayZ.exe, right-click and go to properties, then "Compatibility" then uncheck the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for".

-Run Dayz as Administrator through DayZ.exe

-Verify game files through Steam.

I've heard this can be an issue with BattlEye. You can reinstall that here .
