Hurricane Matthew: Flood Status

Recommended Posts

Keira    985

Hi everyone,

I just want to give you guys a glimpse of the destruction currently going on in my town in wake of hurricane Matthew. We have suffered immense flooding. The previous week we had 11 inches of rain and the hurricane left us with an extra 16 inches on already saturated and flooded ground. I have been very fortunate to have very minimal damage to my property. Currently, I am still out of power and water and that is not expected to return until 10/16.

Here are a few pictures I would like to share with you guys:

Bridge to the Inter-coastal:

After/Before of the Inter-coastal Bridge

Two bridges near my neighborhood, usually a small, ankle deep creek that is now above the bridges (a good 10 feet or more above where it normally is)

The Cape Fear River Before

...And after (29 feet above flood status and rising)

Glad to see that you didn't suffer from property loss and that you're safe.

Unfortunately I wasn't so lucky when Hurricane Sandy devoured the Jersey Shore, I got around two feet of water in my first floor. All is good now, we rebuilt our house, but it was still scary riding out the storm.

Cool photos, If I have any pictures from sandy I will post it on this reply.

Damn. This does not look very good at all. My prayers are out to all the people affected by this, and to any members in our community that got hit by this monster of a storm.

We have a lake again!

This is a dam in town. The Lake was drained due a dam failure years ago after a storm and has been empty ever since... until now.

What state do you reside in? I have a friend that lives in Boca, just north of Miami and he said he was hit really hard by the storms. I actually didn't hear back from him for about 2 days after it first hit land. Makes you worry...

I'm glad I moved out of Florida in January. This shit was never fun down there

NC. Florida got hit hard but we had previous flooding that made this even more of a disaster than we could have ever prepared for.

This blows. Hope you're safe down there Kiera, prayers to you and your family and friends that are affected by this storm.

Sometimes I feel grateful to live in Pittsburgh, where apparently nothing bad happens weatherwise.. worst we've gotten in the past five or six years was that snowstorm that got us a few feet of snow.

What you need to do is go to the pub, have a pint and wait for it to all blow over.

Jokes aside stay safe. ;)

I hope you're okay!

But, really quick.. Are you like in a hotel or something? Or do you like live in a apartment or? I'm curious!

I have a house. Staying at a friend's right now who's home was out of the flood.

Staying positive! The electric company is saying we will have water and power again by 10/16. Crossing our fingers. Thank you everyone for the kind words and good wishes <3
