Editing .Cfg File

Question

I haven't changed anything but here is a simple question, is editing the Cfg file for dayz to boost FPS allowed or not, meaning will it be picked up as an illegal modification?

Editing the .CFG file for things such as increasing/decreasing rendered distance in order to improve your FPS is perfectly fine, as the same procedure is used to give yourself a longer in-game name than the main menu allows you.

Does that answer your question?

As far as I'm aware, only editing the .pbo files is what can get you banned. If you're talking solely about the DayZ.cfg and the other files located in that same folder, then you should be golden, ponyboy.
