Altering gamma for ingame advantages

At what point is gamma goggles OK, and when is it abusing the system for an advantage over others?

I can see that people use it in recordings to catch dupers or such.

However, is it still within the set of rules and regulations for people to use this just to give them a form of "night vision" and use it on a regular basis?

What about people that uses head torches, lamps, campfires etc?

When does it turn to a violation?

It makes it easier to find books in the dark.

There is no rule that says it is not allowed to change the gamma in your game settings.

Well, people use torches and campfires and so on, for RP reasons.

In my personal opinion it is hard to believe that someone spots another person over a range of 200m in the dark. It is not really realistic but people use this function of the game, so it is on you how to rp it out.

Does this answer your question?

No not really, since what is skipped over is the issue that you can be roleplaying with a head lamp or perhaps just waiting out for morning in one location because you cannot see 5 feet ahead of you, while others rush through the area with no lights, but gamma maxed out.

If any hostile actions take place, would the gamma goggles not be seen as a "cheat" over the players that plays it by, well the dark of the night time settings? If you are in a hostile area, running and taking cover in the dark, how is it "good RP" or "logic" that someone with maxed gamma spots you like in bright daylight.

These issues i do feel is left untouched.

When does it turn to a violation?

1. Even if it was against the rules, how would it be enforced, there is now way to monitor it

2. Its a game mechanic thats being used how it was designed to be used

3. I use it because at the moment night time is completely dark for me, even when I use torches since I have a potato computer...not enjoyable to play

1: The question was If it was, not how to enforce it.

2: For RP? Doubtful.

3: I have never seen your specs, so i cannot comment on this.

Ghrim,

1. There is no way to enforce it.

2. Some people need to put op there gamma because they can't see anything otherwise.

It's a game mechanic and at this point we just have to live with it.

It's not against the rules.

As of the moment, there is no rule against changing your gamma. It is not counted as an advantage at this point, like Ron said it simply just help people play.

During night time when it has low gamma, the game just looks dark and unplayable unless you feel like running all over the place with a torch with yes, it does help with the immersion but it's also a massive hassle. Even if it's not gamma related or even if we have some way to enforce it, people can still just increase their monitor brightness.

Remember this is a gaming community, yes it is RP, yes we do prioritize RP over everything else, realism is important for RP but if everything was realistic where would the fun be? This is, after all, a GAMING community, people come to have fun there is no reason for them to just sit there during the night period and wait simply cause they cant see

As I said: There is no rule about it. People are allowed to change their gamma settings. That counts for campfire same as for hostile rp or gun fights. If you use a head lamp to find your way during the night that is realistic but you wont change people rushing by because they got their gamma turned up in the settings.

It is on you how to roleplay it out. It is allowed and there is no way to enforce it. If you think there is you can always put up a suggestion thread for it.

With the answers given above I will mark this as /solved.
