What would you guys use as currency in game? I know trading is a thing and such, but if you had to choose a specific item that everyone would use for jobs and such (like mercenary work, body guards, etc.) what would it be?

Sorry, this discussion is about currency after the outbreak not before.

Personally just any items that I need at that time, if I need medical for some reason I'll trade for medical not really any specific item or service.

Yea I dont know about this, it would be kinda cool. Epoch had a gold system, obviously we wont have that.

As for ideas, I've got nothing. Doesn't mean its a bad idea, but I'll definitely pay attention to this thread. :)

I'm a big fan of the Metro games, I'd suggest something like bullets perhaps? I don't really know, in my mind I can see it becoming a cool thing to RP.

Thats personally what I first thought when I first joined DayZRP. I just think that alot of the things that Metro has could be used in RP, but definitely the currency should be written down as a thing for the future to be used.

Yah I was think 5.56 seeing that they are seemingly rare (haven't found any so far so they are probably only at crash sites)

I wouldn't suggest using a specific ammo as the currency, I would use all ammo as currency, and denote the order to which it was valued.

Composite Arrows, Crossbow Bolt, .22, .380, 9mm, .45, .357, 5.45, 5.56, 7.62x39, .308, 7.62x54, 12 Gauge, SP-6.

Obviously not in such an order, but say (10) .22 rounds is equal to (1) 9mm, or (5) .45 is equal to a 5.56. Of course someone who knew the rarity factor of finding the other ammo types and how powerful the ammo is would have to make a chart. But it would be like bills and change.

Customer: Excuse me sir, how much for that gas mask?

Owner: Well, that should be about five three-oh-eights and ten nine-millimeters, and its all yours.

I mean some of the most stable material to use as a currency is .308. It's useful, and alot of people are looking for it. I see it kinda like Metro 2033, in where you can use expensive and rare bullets as currency, but also use them for the punch that they pack. That's just my take on it, and it seems to be widely used.

A stable currency will never happen considering how often the loot tables are fucked with by the devs each patch, everything would have to change constantly. Bartering still works fine for me.

I would like to see bullets be currency that would be pretty awesome. I feel like IC we wil all gravitate towards bullets or the barter system. A mix of the 2 would be great.

Barter system, plain and simple.

No one item, all dependent upon what you need and what the other side is willing to give up.

Nothing wrong with straying away from that, I think the whole bartering system has gotten old tbh

Don't really know what could be used as currency myself, but the bullets sounds like a neat idea.

Will clearly have to keep an eye out on this thread occationally!

I currently have a group in mind that I am currently fleshing out lore wise, and if I ever get to finishing them I am hoping to make a standardized currency which we would use to part with mercenaries, guards, allies etc.

A certain currency would be cool like a certain one item, however not sure how that'd work, or what item it'd be. I suggest just trading for what you need, or the standard surviving material. Such as food, medical supplies, ammunition, weapons, heck even vehicles.

I think currency could be used as a way to simplify deals in a trading settlement, but making the owners have their own rates.

You could come to a trading post where they have a bullet currency with each type having a value, such as Davos suggested.

Example

Customer- Hi, I would like to buy your apple for the listed price of 5 .22 rounds.

Seller- Here you go sir. Come again.

(next day)

Customer- I would like to order apples in bulk. Offering 450 .22 rounds for 100 apples.

Seller- Seems about right. They will be ready in 3 days, do you want them delivered?

Customer- How much for having them as a delivery?

Seller- Any town in South Zagoria for an extra 10% of the price, so 495 .22 bullets.

Customer- We have a deal then.

Seller- Pleasure doing business with you.

You're making this a bit more complicated than it needs to be, my friend. I think a single type bullet (Like 308.) is what would work best.

IMO it really depends on people IG. There won't be any curreny with money, that's for sure. There is no need to decide what should be a currency in-game by discussing about it on forums. In the world where old rules are mostly gone, I think that if you'll meet any merchant then he'll make his own rules about buying things from him. For example, buying food, medicine or drinking water for some electronic equipment or batteries or whatever.

Long story short - no need to decide here on forums. It should be up to our characters to decide about it. If you play a merchant and you want to sell things by demanding other things than go for it. If there will be some trading outpost and someone will be ruling over it then he or she can make rules that only certain things as currency is allowed within their walls if you want to trade.

When cigarettes get implemented, those would be a good currency. Every person I run into that has a high risk, high reward life seems to enjoy them!
