Share any tips you would have liked to know as a DayZRP Newbie

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm new here and having just been whitelisted, have spent a couple of hours reading through the many guides on this forum prior to my first experience on the server tommorrow

I was wondering if anyone had any other tips or information that is not mentioned in those guides that might come in handy for new players such as myself.

Thanks,

Tim

Most of the things you will probably find in the guides, but my personal tip is do not play as a bandit yet. Play the friendly person at first until you get a good look on how the rules apply IG and then only then when you feel ready you may try to play more hostile.

Thanks, I'm not too keen on the banditry thing right now so will probably stick to a more passive or friendly approach.

The tip mentioned above is the best one, indeed. I have seen too many of my fellow newbies in the report section due to faulty banditry. I would suggest getting a feel for RP and the community first, and also learn how to properly hostageRP. I have been arrested by Zbor with a friend of mine, and we both learned a lot from this encounter. (Plus it was downright brilliant as well)

Yeah it is better like that for the beginning. If you choose to go bandit as soon as you join it is more then likely you will end up reported, just because banditry is a hard and complex way of RP where you need to know the rules really well and make on-spot decisions. Reason why it is recommended for newcomers to play friendly at first, until they familiarize with the rule set.

Where do people tend to correlate at the moment? I read about 'The Vybor Triangle" but is that current? My Character has IC reasons to head towards Vybor and NWAF.

Like and enjoy the character you play as. Don't make the person you RP as someone you don't like.

I usually tend to create characters i like, how would you suggest getting out of a character you start to not like? just kill them off?

Novy, Stary, Kabanino, Vybor Mil, Vybor, NWAF

Those are like the most popular places.

Also don't recommend you going to Green Mountain. Don't ask why just don't go there.

If you don't like a character you can just start a new one. You don't have to kill the already existing one as you might want to play as him again.

Right, thanks. A previous community i used to play in got really annoyed trying to keep track of different aliases of members different characters so introduced a rule requiring previous characters to be killed off, which caused me to leave. I'm glad that's not the case here

Don't let people tell you how to have fun.

Find the RP style that you like, and go with it.

Don't join a group straight away, take your time and enjoy being a survivor before making that choice.

I would highly recommend checking out the newcomers guide if you haven't yet. There's plenty of useful information there, and covers a lot of different topics.

Get blue name, become forum warrior :D

jk. I would say just RP however you want, as long as it makes sense and isnt trolly. Dont be a hero just because people look down on bandits.

Try to find people to RP with, friendly people preferably.. But, can't always be picky.

This makes the experience ingame a lot better, as I've had periods where I've not managed to find anyone and just been running around for hours, every day and this can turn into a boring experience occationally.

Don't hop straight into banditry, Observe and learn then when you think you know enough of the rules and how the game is properly played then attempt to bandit around :)

Find some players whose RP you enjoy and continue to play with them frequently. Remember great RP is contagious. If you surround yourself with great RPers you will soon develop some interesting RP of your own.

My tip, which i wish i would have followed in the beginning is don't give up.

I would log in for 30 mins, tire of not finding anyone and log off. Now i know better. If you feel that you should give up, there is no one around, then it is the time where you just have to do that extra ten minutes of boring, because then you will likley meet someone, which usually ends up in meeting a lot and having great rp. Also... RP > gear Many new people tend to like theyr gear a bit to much, and let their RP get affected.

I haven't started writing my first character yet. Is there some type of character that there is already enough of? Some characters that you feel is missing in the world?

Please do not be the common soldier, but to be honest if you are just starting out and not the best at RP just be yourself. Don't be something complicated that would be difficult to do as a new player. That is what I did, I played myself (With a different name of course) but now that I have been around some time I am going to move on soon and have a more complicated, but fun character!
