Character Question

Hello everyone this is Grigor Everage with a question about characters. I have been talking a lot to people in TeamSpeak using OOC mechanics to get ideas about how to do good if not great roleplaying. I have heard a few times people make comments of previous characters they had and what they roleplayed as also I have heard of Alts. My question is concerning Alts. Should I decide to create a Alt character and work a new rokeplay with a different voice and idea and personality idea how would I do this since I would spawn in with the same character model including weapons clothes and such. Would I need to die on my current character to run a alt or can I simply switch between the 2 by simply changing the name of the character when logining in.

Simply changing your character's name is all that is necessary. Killing yourself would only be necessary if you are planning on playing another gender or race.

Playing Alt(Alternate) Characters can greatly improve your roleplay experience. I think that you should give it a try.

Although I don't use him often, with my alt I used to carry around a change of clothes (until I died). And yeah, you can just change the name on the main menu and that's it, no need to die. Although when you're logging in, make sure the area isn't very populated so people won't mistake you for your other character before you change your appearance.

You can switch between both characters without killing one of them off, but I mean if you want to kill one of them off you're able to do that as well.

Personally what I'd recommend if you're switching between characters try to carry a few different sets of clothing (Hats, jackets, etc.) to help differentiate between them.

Whether you want to change your voice or not is completely up to you and the character you're playing but just try not to make them to similar.

I dont see point of killing the characther for just to play the other one you want. Mostly just change the name, some clothing and voice and you should be okay playing the other characther.

It would be good if you would have barrel so you can change you characthers stuff and dont have to carry the other characthers stuff with you in my opinion.

Playing as more than one character can be fun, when I was new I did that a lot. However over time I started developing better characters with better backstories. The character I'm playing as now is the result of several months of in game development and a small books worth of backstory. I digress.

If you want to make a new character that is a different race, or gender you will have a hard time if you switch back and forth often. The easiest way to have multiple characters is making one that uses the same character model as the other. This way you wont have to kill yourself all the time. Also carry some changes of clothing.

I love bouncing from character to character. Having characters that are completely different from one another challenges you to try different things. When it comes to switching as stated you do not need to kill off your character (Unless you plan to use a different skin for them). Carry around a different set of clothing and just switch it out as soon as you get in game. Playing around with different characters is a good way  to find what kind of playstyle you like over all. Then if you get attached to one of the characters you can make that your main and go from there. One thing I like to do with my characters which can be kind of hard depending on how attached you get to gear is the weapons that they use. One character may prefer the AK-74 while the other is just now learning how to use a Winchester. Having a stash somewhere will help a lot when switching back and forth.

All you need to do is switch character names and you are that character. You don't know anything from your main character or anyone that your main character knows but your alt doesn't. What I usually do is I looks for some new clothes and switch into those if I am about to go on an alt. I usually change up the accent or voice or something like that too. I'd just mainly recommend if you are gonna play your alt character make sure you aren't wearing the same exact clothes as your main.

Thanks everyone for the replies that has given me a lot of advice to look to for when I do start a alt character. I am enjoying the character I am playing right now and am also loving the group I am with but I did want a alt so that I can get out and look at other groups and learn from other peoples different play styles for some ideas on how to get a great character and a great back story. If I do make a alt at this point it will simply be for the purpose of exploring rp. My current main is the 1 character I do have and I enjoy playing with him so I will keep him.

However this did raise another question while I was reading through the replys. When 0.59 comes out I know there is going to probably be a wipe. Does that mean that my character and memories are going to be wiped with him and I am able to continue the same character with the same name and just make new memories. or does everyone stay the same from the wipe. I was curious of this because I am not sure how a game wipe when major updates works with dayzrp.com

The wipe does not have any effect on your character's memories. Everything stays the same.
