I had hypothermia yesterday (cuz fuck these raincoats - badass leather jacket 4lyfe). I was soo low on the blood that i can barely see anything. I survived with help of my friends. Ofcourse i've burned my faces but survived. Healing took me like 2 hours.

People always make fun of me wearing a pink raincoat ....

Oh how the tables have turned... :D

I swam across the channel to the Prison Island and got myself soaked--

Was wearing a M603 coat, black drybag, cargo pants, ect. Clothing wise I was set, but I guess I didn't take the right steps afterward. A shame I lost so much equipment despite my best attempts at keeping warm next to several fires, but its a learning experience. I think I'll try a more conservative playstyle this time around.

It's worst at night time when it's dark and you can not see colors so you do not know if you are close to death or not.  Shouldn't this be under Standalone discussion though?  Meh.  I always carry a raincoat in my bag to replace whatever I am wearing.  I also keep my freshspawn T shirts to look cool I guess.

Yeah dying from hypothermia is a bitch, its like once you get to that final state its really hard to come back from it.

I have to agree with you, died to it once even if i was next to a fire for some time.

I went to the prison island two times, never died. Every time I got on land, fireplace and warm up.

Then there is the times you get hypothermia and don't have a way to make large amounts of fires and keep them hot long enough to survive. Might as well just F11 left click at that point.

I find it strange that this game is so unforgiving of things like hypothermia, and how quick death can occur from it. I know I've personally been at stage two before IRL. It ain't nothing like it is in game. Then again, you don't have to eat 12 cans of paghetti a day to stay alert either. Maybe when modding tools come out we can fix it? Pls?

TL;DR this game works to quick.

My group and I have been dealing with this a lot.

We do a lot of walking around, and rain jackets are a must. Too often do we need to take care of someone because they got cold. Also campfires are pretty annoying sometimes. When your trying to have that dank campfire RP and you start overheating, it sucks!!!

Died on saturday from it. And if it ain't a rider or bomber, Enzo don't want it.

Night times are the worse - but it seems realistic I suppose. Keep your clothes dry at all times. Once freezing turns orange in the status bar, watch how quickly your energy levels will drop, I suppose this is to reflect your body consuming more and more calories/energy in order to meet normal metabolic functions. Hypothermia is deadly in DayZ.

My character caught Hypothermia a couple of days ago. I just sat next to a fire for about 30 minutes and POOF! no more hypothermia.

I think that putting canned food in the fire (letting it heat up and get to 'badly damaged' actually helps out. Not entirely sure though, but when I ate the 'hot' food it my condition got better much faster. I imagine that keeping hot items in your inventory would help as well. I remember very quickly overheating when I kept cooked chicken meat in my inventory in the past. Just heat up a bunch of stuff and put them in your inventory if you cant stay in one place for very long.

I think the main problem was that whilist swimming to the island the server restarted, and when I spawned again I was in the middle of the two bodies of land. When I arrived I never once had a notification of "I am cold" "I am shaking" or anything of this nature. I was soaked and wrung out my clothes, once I was damp I looted the island. Went down to the coast again to contemplate swimming across. Figured I should put up a fire and warm up first, whilist cutting the first tree I got hypothermia. Its a shame considering the amount of gear I had.

During those months that we didn't have any rain in the game, I got real lazy and forgot how easily your character can get cold/hypothermic. So, needless to say, I learned very quickly this last patch to sacrifice the two spaces in my inventory for a rain coat. It's kind of a necessity to have one.

You have to be quick as fuck to survive hypothermia once you get it, especially if you don't have an axe. Take advantage of the hand drill kit if you don't have matches and make sure you get indoors if possible. I was lucky that when I got hypothermia, there was a water pump station in between these two cities for me to take shelter in. I would wait for spaces in the rain to let up to gather sticks outside of the tiny hut, then retreat when the rain returned.

Its kind of silly how more often than not, it's too late by the time Dean Hall shits that "I feel hypothermic" on you. Seems lIke a bigger problem than the need for new vehicles imo... I hope it's fixed in the next update.
