Concept for giving reason to enter cities: Abandoned survivor camps

Very recently, a member of the DayZ subreddit came up with a very very cool idea for a dynamic event that could entice more people to go into bigger cities. Of course, people already go into the big cities, but the devs have made it clear that they want to make the game less of a coastal pvp game, and more survivalish, and the addition of hordes of zombies is of course something to think about as well. Anyways, on to his idea. (Link here. Please go upvote the post, and/or join the discussion there as well as here.)

What: A dynamic server event with high risk / high reward.

Why: To give incentive to enter major cities, for the chance of getting unique loot.

Every major city in Chernarus gets an abandoned survivor camp.

On server restart one of the camps on the map goes from abandoned to recently occupied, but it's completely overrun by infected.

The camp is stocked with all sorts of supplies and unique loot, but there'll be A LOT of infected both inside and outside the building. Taking on an overrun camp by yourself is likely to fail, so you need to cooperate to reap the rewards.

Once the server restarts again, that camp is completely stripped of infected and loot.

I personally think this would be an absolutely amazing idea, should it be possible to do. I feel like it would make the world feel more realistic, and make it feel like there were more people in Chernarus besides myself/other players.

Hicks had this to say when he looked over the concept:

Interesting idea, and well presented.

Not 100% sure it works for us - there are some issues, such as the whole concept of a survivor -anything- being created by the engine, and not by actual survivors, potential abuse, and so on.

That said, Peter and I will at least sit down over some coffee and talk about this - even if we don't do it, it'd be interesting for a mod.

Good news is, even if it the devs don't add it, somebody could very possibly make a mod out of it. Could DayZRP possibly use a mod like this, should it be created and working correctly?

Needless to say, I think the future for DayZ is very, very, bright.

TL;DR:

What: A dynamic server event with high risk / high reward

Why: To give incentive to enter major cities, for the chance of getting unique loot.

How:

  • Every major city in Chernarus gets an abandoned survivor camp.
  • On server restart one of the camps on the map goes from abandoned to recently occupied, but it's completely overrun by infected.
  • The camp is stocked with all sorts of supplies and unique loot, but there'll be A LOT of infected both inside and outside the building. Taking on an overrun camp by yourself is likely to fail, so you need to cooperate to reap the rewards.
  • Once the server restarts again, that camp is completely stripped of infected and loot.

I like the idea. It would add a new dynamic to RP as well, especially given that zombies will be re-implemented soon. I can't wait to RP saving people with outstanding zombie kills and group survival tactics again.

DOWN WITH PVP RP!

( I like your color scheme m8 )

Would be a welcome idea. Perhaps not in every city but in the few largest ones, just like there are only chopper crashes. And a nice addition to the camps would be a few burning barrels outside so that you could spot the smoke from a distance.

Thats a very cool idea. It should be hard to get in, like Alot of infected around and in it. Will be intresting to see this.

This looks incredible, really hope this will get implemeted at some point. I have always thought DayZ could use stuff like this as right now the atmosphere in cities is very bland and does not feel like the apocalypse is at hand....more like everyone has just gone on holiday. This would really help with immersion and could provide some great RP oppurtunities.

Fingers-crossed this comes out!

They should really do something like this with prison island make it so you have to work together to get to the back barracks or something and it just has dank loot city. Make it so there is actually a point to going to the island.

I like this idea a lot. They are supposed to be adding barricading at some point, maybe we will see things like this then.

It would also be nice to see them just add this to the map. I feel like the game feels too clean, not enough blood and destruction. It looks more like the country was abandoned than there is an apocalypse going on.

That's a really good idea, would love to see this come into play at some point. Would make major coast cities worth a damn again.

I like it, I personally can't wait until zombies and potential stuff like this outweighs killing eachother. In exp 0.59 I noticed how much less killing there was as soon as a horde happened.

These actually look really great, adds another element to scavaging.

Plus having these cleared out wouldn't be a bad spot to hold out.

Please devs, do this for us.

I wish we had a Zombie kill counter like how we did for the Mod on our characters, one that resets when you die. :/ But as for this, I like it. Kind of hard to imagine the lag though with all the zombies.
