Implemented radio thoughts

Recommended Posts

I know you are supposed to ask for someones radio when searching them and they have to tell you if you find one or not.

However i believe radios spawn with the player in the next patch, i'd really like to see the removal of the radio being an in game action rather than having to ask someone *do i find one* in game.

When radios are working in the newest patch i wont use teamspeak at all, it just seems more "realistic" that way. If i get robbed of my radio then i can't contact anyone until i find another or borrow someones, which will bring a whole new dynamic to the "lone survivor" feel

So my question is; Are the GAME GODS going to change the rules so that when someones actual in game radio is taken, they can no longer communicate with others, neither on teamspeak or the radio?(obviously)

(example: not being able to contact others because your actual radio is missing)

Also my questions to other players is; Will you limit the use of teamspeak in favor of the radio to make scenarios more believable?

Thanks for reading.

Admin can you move this to general discussions? I feel like maybe this may not be the best forum for it now

Sorry :)

Not a bad idea. The problem always has been that they're so rare to find but on EXP I've come across plenty of them around the map. So incase you lose it you're bound to find one soon enough.

Then again there are still no means or tools to enforce using it this way.

It will depend if the radios are common or not in the loot table. If they're going to be spawning on rare occasions, we will most likely allow people to 'regain' their communication methods in some way.

From memory, it was discussed a while ago and I think it was either a certain time elapsing or distance traveled before you were able to re-use your radio.

I would have to find that post, however since it was months ago, possibly even a year ago, it will be difficult.

Hmm hasn't this discussion popped on a lot already lately? I believe the answer given the last time that it is nearly impossible to check wether or not is still using TS without a radio and even catching them in the act of it could not be justified sicne the person running around without a radio could be having a OOC conversation. And you cannot force it upon them to not be allowed travelling and talking OOC, on top of that not everybody uses the DAYZRP TS. So I think a similiar answer will be given again.

However if there would be a way to enforce this I would gladly have this as a main rule. However I feel like it will just lead to more drama and reports

I think it would be an interesting idea but, I don't know about you, but personally I usually drop anything I spawn with 99% of the time. Especially if I spawned with a radio since I could never get them to work in game or spend the time setting it up. Easier to just use TS.

Personally, I think we should just stick with the current rule/way things are. Also, I know you didn't suggest this, but you shouldn't be forced to use an in-game radio in place of teampseak. When you talk into the radio in game, I believe other people can also hear what you are saying, so it'd be more realistic and immersive, but part of the fun of teamspeak is bantering or talking about OOC stuff while you're in game. Not only that, but there are only so many radio frequencies, and if all 50 (or 75) people on a server were to use the radio at the same time, there would be a lot of overlap on the frequencies.

I like the way it is right now. And also if you have a walkie talkie and someone frisks you for a radio, you can simply give that to them.

[align=justify]From what I understand the walkie talkie item IG should represent your ability to talk via TS. It's an interesting idea if you would be able to find a new one in a reasonable timeframe. But on the other hand rules about communications work pretty nice right now and if something works just leave it alone ;)

overlap on the frequencies could be a problem, but there's a lot of channels and not everyone will use it.

but could you imagine turning on your radio, hearing people that you don't know at all, you don't know their username, or in  game name, just a random person you could either talk to, or eavesdrop on and track down. You'll never know whos going to reply unlike teamspeak.

i'm not suggesting TS should be avoided at all costs, i think TS comes in great for groups, you can call it a private frequency.

But as far as random radio chatter and finding other survivors, im gonna love the radio.

Also if i spawn alone with a radio, I'm damn sure not throwing it away. In a legit situation I'd be using my radio at all times to try and find help.

Also i'm not attempting to say there should be a change in the rules, i am daring to say that as role players we have this opportunity to "make radio chatter" in game and we should take advantage of it and provide deeper RP for others.

most people won't use the radio, but getting in contact with someone over a radio instead of running around alone for hours looking for someone will be great.

I'm not trying to enforce a rule here, I'm trying to expand on our possibilities.

you can give out your location on the radio and assume no ones listening.

But since the "USER HAS JOINED YOUR CHANNEL" notification doesn't exist in radio chatter, you could have just told a group of bandits where you are with knowing it!

ITS SO AWESOME!

I do believe you are the epitome of the definition of a hardcore player. I will continue to use TeamSpeak because I know I'm going to throw away my radio, in exchange for early inventory space, as good storage has been hard to find in experimental thus far. This does sound like an interesting way to play, however, I myself would go insane IRL without communication with the good friends I've made IC.

Basically what Alitmos said, as well as the fact that it would be really hard to monitor and enforce such a rule, especially if the person is using an alternate TS or another program that they might have.

Also if we would have to be completely IC the entire time, that's not too appealing to me as I am not a hardcore player, and I love having an OOC chat with someone whilst traveling alone and such.

I normally carry a radio on my character.  I like the rp aspect of it.  But since this is a very social community I very much like the idea of an rp radio.  Being able to find them within a reasonable amount of time is a good way to allow communication between groups and friends.   But speaking of the new radios I am excited to see its use in game.  Having the ability to broadcast on an open channel in game will be great for creating random rp.   Bandit traps and survivor calls.

People dont just use actions in text to search for radios. People still "*searches for weapons*" and things like that. Its a way to make sure a hostage isn't armed without needing to tie them up and go through their inventory. This kind of things is useful if your are holding someone up for reasons other than taking their gear.

I like the current system, but if players do spawn with radios then I think you should have to have one on you in order to talk with friends while in character over TS. And if you are searched for a radio you just drop it.

Thats exactly what i'm saying, people can do what they want, but i certainly encourage anyone to use the in game radio at least once, it may lead you down a great or terrible path. (both sound awesome)

Plus it will be great for new guys on the server who don't have a group of friends (like me) to contact people with the in game radio when the servers have a low population.

I'd also like to see some "specialty" radio channels for people needing to find someone or maybe an assassination..odd jobs that sort of thing or perhaps a place to help with finding things...special things

Hell even groups can have their own channel, not for communicating among themselves but so other people could feed sensitive information to them, which would make other groups very distrustful of a new survivor following their movements

Personally i am going to leave my radio on a certain channel and tell people if they need my assistance to use that channel to contact me.

Before anyone says "but they'll be other people using that channel" it doesn't matter, i'll listen to the channel until someone asks for me.

Theres no way to tell if they are using teamspeak if you tell them "ive taken your radio" either.

All i'm saying is if someone takes my radio out of my back pack i will not use TS, i understand other people don't want to change the rules. But i'm not talking about changing the rules, i'm talking about making rp better.

Yeah theres some asshead out there that will claim "technically he didn't "ask" to take my radio, he just took it off my character"

I know people want to follow the rules, i'm talking to those of you that do follow rules and don't complain about technical crap.

I vow to make RP better by abiding by the rule that if my in-game radio has been taken off my person i can't use teamspeak.

Everyone else can do as they wish, but I'm going all out to give everyone a good experience, both the good guys, bad guys and crazy guys.

I think this would be interesting, but it would have to be a trial and error sort of thing if we tried it. There's no way to really know how well it will work unless we try it, but lets wait til we figure out how often they spawn in the loot tables anyway because if they're anything like they are now then it'll be hard to find.

Would add a cool extra addition to the current imaginary radios for sure.
