My First Night on DayZ

Recommended Posts

I'm really hoping this is the right forum for a good old fashion rave. Because even though I haven't submitted my whitelist application to THIS server yet, I had an absolute blast last night on this game. A BLAST!

I'm still getting used to the controls and everything and figuring out what NOT to do. (Like finding a sewing kit and going: "Oh cool! What does this do? LET'S FIND OUT!" and then stitching myself up and making myself sick. OR, treating this game like other MMOs and hopping half a flight of stairs too early and spraining my ankle. Whoops.)

I certainly got attacked quite a bit by other players, including someone who had left a backpack out on the road as bait and then proceeded to jump out and beat me with a bat when I picked it up. I only ever got to shoot a gun once, and it was just firing at the sky because I FINALLY found bullets that worked for it. But then someone came and clocked me upside the head with their man-fists and, since I was sick from infecting myself with stitches I didn't need, I died. I didn't mourn losing my newly loaded shotgun... but I  did  mourn losing my sweet red baseball cap. That thing was so cool!

I remember being so excited when I found my first backpack and I could carry more than a pocketful of whatevers. In fact I logged out lying on the ground in a house by the beach so when I log back into that server, I'll still have a few cans of food, a pristine kitchen cleaver to open them and armed with a frying pan that, if attacked, WILL GIVE SOMEONE SUCH A WHALLOP!

I still have no idea how to figure out where I am, because apparently there are different towns, but I'll read up on that during downtime at work today. Unfortunately the compass I found was left on one of my many corpses.

Not everyone I came across was bad though, which was cool. One guy was nice enough to feed me when I was hungry... which was interesting for me. In real life, I don't like asking for things... and I felt even worse accepting his help after mentioning that I was scavenging for berries to eat in this virtual world where food is scarce.

And then there was this chipper voiced young boy in a motorcycle helmet I met early on who tried to get me to run by warning me of an axe murderer... who them promptly axed me in the head. (I was still figuring out controls... Hahaha.)

All in all... I did not expect to have as much fun with this game as I did. I'll probably submit my whitelist application tonight when I get home from work, or from my phone if it cooperates. Already found my passphrase, so I just need to apply. :)

Hope to play with some of you soon!   o/

Glad you're enjoying things. Playing on a public server is different to playing on DayZRP. For a start before you have an hostile action taken against you they must first make contact with you (so hopefully, not getting hit with a bat without any player interaction). Roleplay always comes first here. Best of luck with your whitelist application. If you find you're struggling with the whitelist or even the general controls you can always PM a community helper of join the helpdesk in the DayZRP TeamSpeak.

That's awesome that you're enjoying everything!

So I mean if you do have any questions due to you being new like you said, Community Helpers are here to help.

PM's or coming on TS and dropping into the "Waiting for staff" are two easy ways to get a hold of us.

Even when I was new it was nice to have people to help explain some stuff with controls, etc.

Anyways, hopefully I'll see you running around IG somewhere, good luck.

I am a big fan of your level of excitement and enthusiasm about the RP servers.  I would like to ask though.   Have you gotten to play yet?  and how did your first night playing in the RP servers go?

I have the day off, so I'm actually logging on now. (Didn't get a chance to play anything last night.) I'll be sure to update! :)

It sounds like you've had alot of fun during your first night on DayZ, I wish I had this much fun when I first got the game! I was being chased and beaten to death by a guy when I first logged into a server. I think you'll enjoy DayZRP a lot!

DayzDB Map helps you with navigation and locating where you are.

Or you might just go and explore.

Interested to see how you like DayZRP versus the public server. Personally I stopped playing DayZ because of public servers just being completely boring with all the Killing on Sight and such but when I found DayZRP I've come back and started spending most of my time on DayZ again. Glad to see you're enjoying your time here!

I got to meet Emm in game yesterday and that was fun! I was super nervous, because before yesterday, I'd only RP'd text-wise. I need to rig up my headset to had sound go there for the game only instead of my speakers, because I have a hard time understanding people when they talk sometimes... (and that got me killed a lot on public servers.)

It was strange, because I felt safe and unsafe at the same time. Like... I knew that if/when my character died, I'd at least GET something out of it, y'know? I haven't met anyone wanting to kill me yet, so that's good.

Emm and I ran into someone, but I hid while Emm did all the talking. ^^

I hope I can log on and play more today... (when I get out of the dungeon known as CLEANING THE WHOLE HOUSE BEFORE NEXT WEEKEND!) Looking forward to meeting more folks in game!

Im in the same boat, just started playing DayZ about 2 weeks ago now.  Found out real quick the public servers are not really fun.  Except to get some DM out of the system which I admit I still do from time to time.  But DayZRP is a total different game.  Ive only crossed paths with a few people so far and the first time I freaked out and ran off.  But that in itself was fun.

My only issue is not wanting to figure something out here on the forums that I have yet to figure out myself IC.  Being so new to the game its kind of nice not know how somethings work or where things are.  Im still totally lost as far as locations lol.  But thats why Im loving it
