How to Tanned leather?

I have looked at the wiki and then watched an older youtube video on it.  I have a deer pelt and a lime and when I go to put the lime on the pelt it just switches.  I then put one in the hand and then try to interact with the other.  It is a no go.  I want to make a few items and can not get the tanned hide to work with.  What am I doing wrong here?

I think you need a barrel and fertilizer, not confirmed because i haven't done it myself.

In .58, the tanning system is updated to include barrels. To make it work, you have to:

-Find a barrel

-Put the pelt and lime in the barrel

-Close the barrel

-Right-click on the barrel and hit "Tan leather"

-Wait for the leather to finish and it will turn into "Tanned Leather"

After it is tanned, you can use a leather sewing kit on it and craft the different clothing and equipment.

I just wanted to add a side note, you also need a barrel and bark if you wish to darken something like a leather back pack for example.
