What do you think? More emotes during Robbery's?

Recommended Posts

This is a special topic.. Since it has happened to everyone. Yesterday we robbed a guy and we handcuffed him. He had a FULL Ghillie suit on. One of the people that helped robbed him Ripped the Ghillie suit off him and put it on. Now this is not actually possible. You cant take a jacket off while you are handcuffed unless you cut the sleeves. Especially a Ghillie suit. So do you think there needs to be more Emotes of taking items off people During robbery's so it can be more Realistic then a jacket just proofing off you? Or do you think Taking a jacket off someone during a Robber is just BadRp. I personally would wait until they're Un-handcuffed and tell them to drop the Jacket. Your thoughts below!

ALSO heres a cat gif to brighten your day!

This is just a game after all, not specifically designed for RP and Hyper realism. something as complicated as ripping sleeves and such to remove jackets from people seems a bit too much. i'd think just not being able to remove clothing specific clothing such as jackets when handcuffed would be a better option. if you want to do it yourself for the sake of RP then fine, but i dont think anybody else would take handcuffs off remove their jacket and re handcuff them just to be realistic.

How is that complicated at all xD Just do good RP dont bother with there Gear immediately. I feel people are just being Lazy. If you Handcuff someone, and Un-handucff them just for there Jacket.. then you need to fix your Robbery RP. But if you take the Handcuffs off him, Or leave him Un-Handcuffed and say "Drop your Jacket" then its MUCH better RP then just having it Vanish off them and onto you..

I understand where you're coming from and sometimes it bother me as well when this happens. However, unfortunately it is a game mechanic and you aren't going to be able to stop people from doing so without making some sort of punishment. I have seen people emote *slides jacket off* or *unbuckles bag's straps,* in my opinion, this is how it should be done. If you don't want to emote then at least tell the person you are taking off their jacket, backpack, etc so it doesn't seem so random.

Agreed but things like this SHOULD be rules it makes RP alot better. I know staff team wants this Community to be better at RP ive talked with staff team members about it.. Yet you guys dont add little things like this that WILL make RP alot better.

I agree a bit more creativity could be used when it comes to robbing someone especially when they're handcuffed. for example:

*Pulled out a sharpened knife and cuts the straps from his backpack*  So basically you put the backpack on the floor.

Sounds good to me, would make robberies more thought out and provide more Roleplay to the hostage.

I think this is very similar to something Parantoid put up not too long ago. Check this out.

When stealing things from a hostage, it's always good to provide some RP while doing it. If you're just standing over him not saying a word, blatant gear>RP. Even if its the simplest things like "Nice suit there buddy, you won't be needing that." It might not be the best, but at least you're interacting. I think what you're saying about emotes would be nice, but if just a choice of the player, impossible to make it a rule. We had a Ghillie hostage not too long ago, and instead of just dragging it into my bag, I emoted "Slides Ghillie over his head, rolling it up and places it in bag". This is much better then just dragging, but it's up to the hostage takers for little things like that.

I totally see what you're saying though, it would be better if more people did this.

Good bandits already do this. Good RPers utilize text fairly often. I don't think there needs to be a rule regarding this -- Each of us are on our own path when it comes to improving our RP. We should encourage players to use emotes and textRP, but I want players to be comfortable doing so before they hold up RP and type slooowwwllllyy.

Practice makes perfect. No new rules, please. Let's just encourage better and more realistic RP.

I agree maybe not enforce it as a rule.. But It needs to be publicly known that doing this will create better RP and will be frowned upon if you dont.

The best way to make it publicly known is to do it. I would not be nearly as good at RP on DayZ if I hadn't met people who showed me how it's done. The DayZRP Masterclass is a great opportunity, and new members of the community should absolutely take advantage of it.

We all have our own Opinions I think emoting taking gear during a robber FORCES people to RP more.

I agree, but I think you're not taking in the diversity of our community into account. Each of us have different strengths and weaknesses, especially when it comes to utilizing BOTH text and voice RP. Since English is the primary language used on this server, I think it would be unfair to require non-native speakers to have to textRP. Even when English isn't the case, a lot of people simply cannot type very quickly and it leads to long lulls in RP. Combine this with nervous spelling errors and you actually could end up making the RP worse.

There are solutions, though. I was watching a stream highlight of Lue's a month or so back, and he verbally instructed the hostage to remove their gear. Things like," Shrug that rifle off your shoulder," or "drop those shoulders -- Let that bag fall to the ground!" can be very immersive and solve the issue you're talking about.

I prefer emotes, but at the same time I think there are multiple solutions to this problem. I enjoyed Lue's approach and it's something I have utilized more in my RP because I think it works really well. To reinforce a point I made previously -- If you want people to emote out taking gear...then do it. If it you pull it off well, then the idea will stick and you'll see more robbers begin to do this. I usually don't emote out taking gear, but I will monologue while I sort through items to let them know what I'm doing. I save most of my emotes for RP items such as cigarettes and other trinkets.

I hope my response has been helpful!

No not text RP just like this for instance * Unstraps vest, Puts it on ground * Thats very simple or. * Forces jacket off * Something like that.. Very simple and easy. Not something like *Takes knife out, Cuts sleeves, puts jacket on, Takes jacket and lays it next to him* I dont expect that. Thanks for posting and it was very Helpfull!

It comes down to this is a game.  It's a mechanic.  Just the same as the quick day night cycle.  Or the fact you instantly reload 30 rounds into a clip when it would take way more time to do it in real life.  Take some things with a grain of salt.   Keep rp above all but always remeber it is just a game with its own mechanics

I'll agree, if you take stuff like clothing and backpacks off someone who's handcuffed, then you should at least try to emote how you got it off them. Because when you don't, it is pretty much the equivalent to just ripping it off their body like tear away paper, and makes it more up in the air on how it got off the person. Although it is a mechanic, so I would say it would be more RPish if you did emote it. So, you know, just do what you see fit on the situation.

I'm all for immersion but in the end this is just a game. If your robbing someone I think its perfectly acceptable to remove items when needed. Honestly adding new animation for removing clothing would just make things take way too long and I'd imagine it would get annoying.

If we started making rules for the smaller things such as this, you would quickly become frustrated. As RedDefiant says, the best way to get good practice out there, is to operate under Best Practices. Also creating this thread makes people think, and hopefully more aware.

There is an element of "suspending reality" (as NishiUrban always says and should write an article about :) ) that must be done though when playing any game limited by game mechanics, RP or not. That means, yep we know that in real life, like Jester says, it takes way more time to load clips, eat a can of food, drink a whole bottle of water, etc. But we accept those things in game, cause the mechanics dictate we do. There is nothing wrong with adding depth to your immersion by doing what you're proposing during a robbery, or any time it is appropriate. That does make for good RP. But having a rule about it would be a bit much and might lead to ruleplay over roleplay, which is something we don't want. That kills any potential for positive growth in RP skills.  Again, talking about it, and modeling the behavior in game, will ultimately lead to it being more widespread.
