Areas to avoid?

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I am a new white list applicant who applied back on Tuesday.  I am still waiting to hear back on that but I have spent what time I have poking about the forums.  I have also sat in the TS server mainly listening to what people are doing or how they play.  So far, I think I have met one person who you could consider a "friendly"  as much as that goes for DayZ at least.  Ninety percent of the others are bipolar schizophrenic lunatics.  Which is the norm for DayZ as it is.  As I have played DayZ for a really long time, like end of may of 2012.  I am well aware you don't ask some one for a safe place to stay, its a trap.  Getting screwed over in DayZ is going to happen, no way to avoid that unless you don't ever log in.  What I don't want to do is be ass raped with sand paper with out the curtasy of Vaseline or a reach around.

Each community is different in what areas are claimed by groups.  I have seen in the forums that green mountain is a NO-GO as well.  What other areas should I "know better" about?

Your best bet is to find all this out ingame. It'll feel much more rewarding to experience it for yourself and slowly learn the places to go and avoid in character.

Also, good luck on the whitelist!

I understand the notion of not wanting to be screwed over every time you turn a corner, but I don't think trying to figure out what places to avoid in order to achieve that is the right way to look at it. Instead of trying to figure out where to go, or not go, in order to avoid unfavorable situations trying to determine ways to play to your personal strengths in order to turn potentially unfavorable circumstances into opportunities for yourself seems more favorable.

I would suggest travelling everywhere, being aware of your surroundings helps. When I stumble onto people IG, I try to see them before they know I'm there. I'll usually follow them around, or stay hidden close enough to hear what they are saying. If it sounds like they are going to screw over the next person they meet, I'll more then likely back the hell out of there, otherwise I'll find a way to make myself known that leaves me options. I've had characters who would whistle for example, in order to see how the people I find react to knowing there's someone in the immediate area who they can't see (you can learn a lot about people from observation).

Either way, being new to the community can be a fun, although intimidating experience. I'd say get out there and encounter as many people as you can, you'll probably get robbed a lot, but it will probably give you a lot of crazy stories to tell. Good luck out there. ;)

[align=justify]The best thing you can do is discover this IG. It will develop your character and you will have stories to share about certain areas. There are good people out there - yesterday I was making a farm for my care packages and out of nowhere comes a freshspawn. Ok - I feed him, give him some stuff, a backpack and allow him to pack it full with my fresh grown food. Then that freshie spots another freshie (jesus, my are was pretty remote!) and once again I help another guy out!

[align=justify]There are a lot of places and to be honest none of them is 100% safe. One time you will get a friendly encounter, other time you will get robbed. The only tip I can give is travel light without anything valuable and try to scout out the map to aquire those informations IG. If you get robbed - you won't lose anything valuable!

I wouldn't really say that you shouldn't go somewhere.

You should be open for everything and just wander around. Stuff that people tell you in the forums shouldn't affect what you do IG. Try to build your image of the places around Chernarus from the opinions that people tell you in character. Sure, there are someplaces that are more dangerous than others, places where you risk yourself getting robbed. But everything depends on the other survivors who inhabit the places.

Where NOT to go changes with the wind! So even if we told you, it might not be that way once you get in game. They've given you the best advice above. Get in game, explore, observe, question and listen. You'll find out quickly that no place is really safe, and some places are really nice to visit regardless. Have fun out there and be safe! :)

if you're new, go everywhere, there is no such thing as not a good place to RP. There is only such a thing as BadRP, but as a newcommer, i would recommend you get a fine and long taste of what BadRP is like so that when you finally stick your tongue in goodRP, it'll feel like fucking gold

Vybor / North West airfield are pretty bandit heavy places still from what I understand. I wouldn't know since I haven't been there in months. I would just be careful around places that spawn high tier military loot. Good luck out there! :)

Hurr durr dont go to GM.

GM also known as Green-name Mountain comprises of an obundent species of white names and green names.  Unfortunately that is where they reproduce at sickening rates.  You will get robbed and will receive some dank ooc banter at GM.  Or you can go anywhere else for some baguette or potato RP.  Possibly imperial japanese rice bonzai rp.  Good luck on your journies.

Used to.  Afterall someone has to send the whitenames out of gm to get some good rp.  Unfortunately there is too many so now we just send any whitename we find to gm for quarantine.

Green Mountain is always very safe and good quality roleplaying is in abundance. It's often held by groups who protect the compound from baddies, so I'd suggest going there. It's a great place, Green Mountain.

No where is truly safe, it's just depending how much traffic comes through there on whether it's safe or not. Watch, learn, and a lot of trial and error will tell you were the safe heavens are.

Its a bit cheaty and lame to try to find out through the forums. I would just suggest keeping your wits about you - it will be harder to get jumped that way - and finding out yourself.

Where people travel tends to vary anyway. I've been through Stary on three consecutive days, had a friendly encounter, a hostile, encounter, and haven't met anyone at all. There really is no telling when you'll find someone traveling, or what they will do.

I avoid GM not because of the hostilities, but because there are often a lot of shoddy hostilities, and I don't want to get caught up in a bad initiation and inevitable report. I still check there from time to time but only if I have the Scars watching my back.
