The Northern Line

Buying, trading, selling. All at the right price.

Everyone Starts Somewhere...

Five months prior to the quarantine…

After a short struggle, the damp crate popped it's top. Boards hit the dock with a loud thump. "There's no fuckin' way..." said one dirty-looking man with tombstone teeth to another. He reached inside, then began sizing up a small bag of white dust, shaking it about. He'd turn around and nod at an impatient fellow in a three-piece-suit for approval. Three-piece-suit nodded. The dirty man and his comrade (lets call them scabs) turned away from him and opened the bag, sticking their index finger inside to gather just a bit of the fine powder. The two of them shuddered and shouted after inhaling the stuff, crying, "Whoa! Fuck me! Whoooo!". After a long period of '"study" on the scab's part, the suit would cleared his throat and spoke up."Good shit, eh?" said the suit with an obvious, blank US accent. He began running his hands through groomed black hair. Such was his habit when dealing with imbeciles. The first scab sealed the bag and cleared his throat in an attempt to regain his composure. He opened his mouth only to be cut off by the suit. "Two big M's, my friend. No less. You know what it took for us to get here," he uttered in a sharp tone. The first scab would smile, snapping his fingers. The other scab would step off of the dock for a few moments before returning with a black duffle bag. "Hey, Tate-"

"I got it," snapped Tate himself. A young man with thousand-mile, dark green eyes. Chains danced and rattled quietly under a thick kevlar vest as he strided over and unzipped the bag, reaching in and grabbing large bundles of US dollars, wrapped in black cloth. He counted quickly, grinding his teeth. “It’s all here. We done?” he barked, throwing the dufflebag onto the boat.

Deals like these were the trade of the boys. They’d have their friend Mikael acquire and process any coke through a long net of separate contacts and grow the pot over in the States, then they’d deliver it to places like Chernarus and Europe. Buy low, sell high. They eventually even got in on a huge gun-running market, which was flourishing in 2009. Easy money in their eyes to pass on weapons to the Chedaki and other terrorist organizations. They avoided the gang and mafia scene as much as possible, but eventually fell into it unwillingly after a deal went south. They became targets. Either luck was on their side or the folks they opposed were just unprepared for the fierce hunger these three had to become the kings of the West Coast. International deals brought them wealth, and they were expert hagglers. They often brought the price up at least twice as much as the product was actually worth. They gained so much through the dirty trade financially, but it was often not without consequence. Competition grew feverishly and they often lost a lot of their profit or stock due to theft and destruction. Tate knew how to get even. But it was not always a possibility, because a day finally arrived where humanity’s luck had finally run out. Civilization globally collapsed. Tate Murray and Daniel North met a few weeks after the initial collapse, and traveled together for a while before running into Mikael, who mysteriously showed up in Mogilevka. He avoided explaining his appearance to them, but it was obvious that the man was now hooked on what he created for a living.

They made pacts and deals with several small groups and individuals across Chernarus, starting with Jay Wong and his men. Together they carried out the group’s first contract, with a man named Beau: the death of a notorious bandit.

With plentiful stock in weapons and military equipment, the group finally got a hold of a secure frequency for them to do their business over the radio. It was the start of a whole new kind of sin. After seeing death and destruction at the hands of other survivors and their groups, it was apparent that they could continue doing what they were good at. Selling drugs and weapons, two things that are a commodity at any day and age. Especially now. The way Daniel decided to run this new group was the same old way, just locally. They'd move deals from place to place to make sure nobody who wasn't invited couldn't waltz in. They'd have the muscle and firepower to murder anyone who crossed them or shit on the deal, and maybe even for competition. The Northern Line would sell more guns, medical equipment, military equipment, and once-illegal substances than any other group could hope to produce.

The Northern Line’s Goals

  • Become the most profitable trade organization in Chernarus.
  • Secure a stockpile of goods to sell, in a safe and hidden place.
  • Secure a safe place to live and produce substances.
  • Honor the contracts we are bound to with each customer.
  • Overcome all competition.
  • Remove anyone who stands in the way of the above goals from existence.

I'll read through this in a minute and give more feedback but one thing is you may want to change the font from black to something else, it's unreadable.

Definitely needs some work, but it's an interesting idea. Don't forget to add a roster.

oooh, competition! Your thread could do with some pictures and stuff like that, but for a rough draft I like it!

Could be quite interesting, I just have a few questions.

What's going to make you any different to any other trader? Perhaps you're going to have your own trading zone or something?

What kind of wares are you going to be packing? Just various or specifics?

And last of all, I get a small vibe that you're a slightly hostile trading group, is this right? Could be very interesting if you are.

Thread looks like it needs a bit of work, pictures, centring the headers and such, but looks like it has a lot of potential. Best of luck.

interesting, a trading group does seem like something I would enjoy running into. I'm always picking up weaponry that I eventually want to get rid off. So you know.. I might try and get in contact with a couple of you, make some buddy buddy relations going :3

on the side note, is this group currently in WIP or not? it could use some graphics, a little bit of clean up here and there and just someone specifics like what Jamie said.

Other than that, good luck with the group and let's hope the bandits will steer clear of ya.

Centered the headers, added all those specifics among other details into the post. :)

Yes, the group thread is definitely a WIP. We're going to get graphics soon, and I did this thread on my own overnight. It's pretty much as rough as a rough draft can get at the moment, but I think we're off to a good start...

Haven't read too much yet, will read the rest later. Just gonna mention that one wouldn't grow coca in the US. Wouldn't be possible to do in scales which would be profitable. Generally you'd get it in processed and clean and the only production done in the states would be cutting it with filler. Like lactose.

So you're going to try and make profit by selling things. What currency will you be using? If I wanted to buy say an M4, how would I pay?

Thats a problem that trading groups always seem to have. How does one put a value on each and every item within the game. If you can manage it, then bravo. If not, you'll have some real trouble keeping this group on track.

I'll give some more feedback at a later date. Good luck!

This is definitely something wwe've had to mull over. The idea is that everyone has needs. We need AK mags, so let's say you want that M4. We'll give based on what we need/can get from you. To establish some sort of currency would be hard, so it's a barter system based on who in the Line you are dealing with.

If your on TeamSpeak give me a poke in about an hour, I should be on by then. I might be able to help you out. You would just need to give me some ideas as to what you want.

From what I read it is a really interesting idea. I've seen a few trade groups come and go. As stated it would be interesting to see a set price when it comes to trading high end items. Something reasonable but also believable.

The thread does need some work, I saw you mention you were looking for someone to do the graphics. You can check out the Media Thread as there are some fellow community members that advertise their work and are willing to help you out.

As for everything else I will keep an eye on this group. It's a refreshing idea and I'm hoping you guys can pull it off.

We really appreciate it, clumsy. :)  We've actually got someone working on graphics right now, and I'm going to revise what I put down originally. Expect great changes!
