Animals around Chernarus

The animals in 0.58 are going crazy.

Last week I saw a couple of cows standing in the field. My character was very hungry and decided to shoot one of the cows.

As I shot the cow, nothing happend. I shot again, nothing. I used a Blaze double rifle so the cow should drop after 2 shots.

I took a closer look at it and moved towards the cow, again nothing happened. I ended up hitting the cow with my axe and it randomly disappeared.

The next day I saw a group of deers. This time it was different. They were already running around the field. I decided to look with my binoculars. as I was watching, all the deers suddenly walked into the hill and disappeared.

I hope there will be some work on the animals in dayz. At this moment you can't properly hunt, because you mostly end up finding a glitched group of animals. Personally, this issue bothers me alot as I like playing a character that is living in the woods. Hunting and gathering to survive.

How do you guys think about this? Are they working on it?

Yeah had this happen to me plenty of times. No clue if they're working on it, No clue if they fixed the meat bug where you get sick from eating meat either.

I've had somewhat a similar issue with animals bugging out about 2 days ago I was running through the woods and saw a couple animals and I went to shoot but before I could shoot they all just took off running but they like went like 100mph through the woods as if they were secretly jets or something it was funny and something to laugh about but at the same time it kills the immersion of hunting

Sometimes the cow are standing still like some kinda statues. We once tried to kill them and RP'd it out as: "Must be a modern art... Paper mache cows."

Too bad that when we ventured further these cows came back to life and rushed past us.

Animals in DayZ are pretty bad at the moment, however I don think I've ever seen anything quite as bad as your describing. I'll take your word for it though, DayZ will be DayZ.

Yes this has happened to me multiple times, I hope they fix it on the next patch.

And with meat, well you can use charcoal tabs to prevent any sickness from happening. It's a bit tideous but it does the trick for now.

At least there are animals in the game, which is a nice addition. I just wish the deer weren't controlled by Satan himself.

Animals have never quite worked in DayZ. The big problem is that the DayZ devs have proven themselves to be absolutely terrible at coding AI. Zombies spent a long period of time where they wouldn't notice you nor be able to hit you if you sprinted circles around them. It is understandable, though. AI is very hard to code as is pathing. I always found it very funny when animals in DayZ display exactly how magical they are.

Brain Hicks said that advanced group behavior was already "functional" in 0.58

If he means animals running into hills is advanced group behavior, than well done bohemia.....

Still waiting for the "improved" animal AI. At least they haven't been running in circles anymore have they?

Also aren't the meats still bugged? As if you eat a cooked meat the game sometimes treats it as raw. I wouldn't count on meats just yet.

Yeah, the animals have been kind of awkward for a while now. I managed to see a legion of cows near Pustoshka, well, relatively near. After they ran off into the forest, during the dead of night, like they just snorted a line of Columbia's finest I managed to slowly track them down by crawling through the woods only to have to server crash. After I joined back in, there wasn't a cow as far as the eye could see.

I don't even want to know how fast rabbits are now of days, since I haven't even seen let alone heard one anywhere on the map this entire patch. But then again sometimes I get lucky, and manage to have a hunting trip like this.

So it's kind of a hit and miss system right now, kind of wish they would double or triple the amount of animals on the map. They feel very few and far between, at the moment.

I agree with you. There should be a lot more animals around.

Great video though!

The developers also talked about Agressive animals like wolves and bears. This would make sense. Imagine running around a city seeing infected all over the place. Why would you go there? Most people would prefer to go into the woods. But with bears and wolves, it will become a lot harder to survive in a forest. Sounds awsome to me.

Hm.. Last time I encountered cows, my group of friends and I ended up RPing that our characters were seeing things because every time we pointed our guns at the cows they would disappear before we could pull the trigger then reappear somewhere else. Made for some fun RP though.
