Why do people play like that?

Recommended Posts

It has become very noticable, through people's screenshots.

I just don't understand why someone would do it?

There are so many people who play the game in a wide ratio.

Everything gets stretched out horizontally,

Nothing looks proportionally right,

Makes your entire game and screenshots look horrible.

So I wonder, anyone have any idea why people would choose to play so?

I believe people who play at that aspect ratio, do not have the highest end monitors. I do not think it's out of choice.

Not everyone has their dream rig.

Oh really? I genuinely though it was a choice setting to be honest xD.

Now I feel like an ass. :P

Honestly, I've talked to some people that have thought that is how the game looks and didn't know you could fix it.

Wrong.

Even with a shit monitor (read 4:3) You can play the game at the correct aspect ratio. That being said, people with good monitors can play the game at the incorrect aspect ratio. People just don't know any better.

That's what the OP is referring to.

IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WHAT KIND OF MONITOR YOU HAVE. YOUR MONITOR EITHER SUPPORTS 4:3, 16:9 OR 16:10 OR WHATEVER AND DAYZ SUPPORTS RESOLUTIONS FOR ALL OF THESE

I've actually PM'ed members after seeing screenshots and told them they were playing in the wrong aspect ratio. Thing is many don't see it and the difference between 16:9 and 16:10 isn't huge. A good trick is to right click your desktop, find out your monitor's default resolution and match it in game.

Yeah exactly. I've read on people actually using the wide aspect ratio, as to hit targets easier.

Seeing as the pixels are broader, they would be easier to hit or something like that.

Ah right, my mistake for misunderstanding the OP.

No problem :)

I have no idea on how such things work so that's why.

I think it improves their frames, a game is no fun if you get shitty frames but it looks amazing

Honestly, I must disgracefully admit I've played DayZ for over a year thinking characters were supposed to be short and fat. Then I was told my aspect ratio was wrong, and now it's like playing a new game(That has the exact same features as the old game but slightly different looks).

To be fair, I played on the wrong ratio for almost a year without even realizing it as well. A lot of people don't even notice there's something wrong since there isn't much of a difference. Some people just prefer it like that also.

If you see someone playing on the wrong ratio just give em a heads up.

Or you could make a guide about it...

I guess it just depends on what you have gotten used to... Everyone is different in what they think looks good or bad.

Yeah, suppose if someone plays for the first time with the aspect ratio messed up, they don't realise what it's really supposed to look like or something?

I did it over a year and just got used to it untill someone showed me the light ;)

I like the "normal" one better than what i used to have.

Why not make a guide? I'm sure it would be helpfull for a couple of people!

It's good to read you people's idea's on this :)

I honestly didn't know that for some people it's like that by default!

Next time I spot it in someone's screenshots, I might just let them know ^^

Awesome that this helped you out IrishGhost!

How could I go on in making a guide? (That'd be new to me xD)

Probably just low end monitors :P

I played on the wrong ratio for a long time until maybe a month before I started RP. When I finally changed my ratio it was like a whole new game...
