Why do people play like that?

It has become very noticable, through people's screenshots.

I just don't understand why someone would do it?

There are so many people who play the game in a wide ratio.

Everything gets stretched out horizontally,

Nothing looks proportionally right,

Makes your entire game and screenshots look horrible.

So I wonder, anyone have any idea why people would choose to play so?

Even with a shit monitor (read 4:3) You can play the game at the correct aspect ratio. That being said, people with good monitors can play the game at the incorrect aspect ratio. People just don't know any better.

I've actually PM'ed members after seeing screenshots and told them they were playing in the wrong aspect ratio. Thing is many don't see it and the difference between 16:9 and 16:10 isn't huge. A good trick is to right click your desktop, find out your monitor's default resolution and match it in game.

Yeah exactly. I've read on people actually using the wide aspect ratio, as to hit targets easier.

Seeing as the pixels are broader, they would be easier to hit or something like that.

Honestly, I must disgracefully admit I've played DayZ for over a year thinking characters were supposed to be short and fat. Then I was told my aspect ratio was wrong, and now it's like playing a new game(That has the exact same features as the old game but slightly different looks).

To be fair, I played on the wrong ratio for almost a year without even realizing it as well. A lot of people don't even notice there's something wrong since there isn't much of a difference. Some people just prefer it like that also.

If you see someone playing on the wrong ratio just give em a heads up.

I played on the wrong ratio for a long time until maybe a month before I started RP. When I finally changed my ratio it was like a whole new game...
