As the title implies, whats your favorite RPG, and why?

My favorite is probably......Fallout 3. I just think it was very well made, it had a decent enough story, and the VATS system was a very unique system

Let's see...

JRPG

Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy 7. In my opinion, FF7 was the last good Final Fantasy game before the series started to get really crappy. Final Fantasy 13 was good, too. I liked the wide-open exploration phase, it's just a shame you have to claw your way through 30+ hours of linear "tutorial" gameplay to get that far.

As for Chrono Trigger...well, it's just hands down the best console-based RPG that was ever created. Period. If you disagree, you are simply wrong! :P

Western RPGs

All of the Fallout series were fantastic. It's a shame how many kids have grown up only knowing Fallout 3/NV, because Fallout 1 and 2 were awesome as well.

Also, anything from Bioware, mostly. Neverwinter Nights 1 in particular, because some of the best "game-based" roleplay I've ever experienced took place on a hardcore RP server in NWN.

And, oddly enough, many MMOs. I've played on roleplay-based Ultima Online and World of Warcraft servers (usually private servers) and been able to have a good time indulging in RP rather than just focusing on the gear-obsessed raiding and dungeon running.

I think if they made a fully-functional, persistent-server, multiplayer version of Fallout 3/NV that could support 40-50 players and was customizable...the roleplay servers that could derive from that would be incredible.

Yes and yes! I'm quite partial to FF9 as well. I also enjoyed Blitzball!

Mass effect series. Duuuh.

Most games from Bioware are gold, SWTOR being one of the few exceptions I can think of.

WoW was interesting to roleplay in, but in the end it became painfully obvious it wasnt really ideally suited for it. Took me 7 years for me to get that.
