Trader/Survivor town

Has anyone tried to setup a trading post or town yet? If you have how'd it go? Thinking about setting one up down the road and I just wanted to get an idea of how well/awful it can go.

I think it has been tried a couple of times during my time here in role play. Mind you, I've only been here in the community for under a year. I think in the mod it had been done successfully a couple of times as well.

I think it is kind of a hard thing to accomplish though. As soon as you set up a settlement, you become a stationary target. And since you would be a trading post, you would be a stationary target with a lot of items and supplies. Unless you have a large amount of people to defend the trading post/town, you're likely to run into a lot of trouble.

Just my opinion!

Yeah seems to be a main feature with trying to set up towns, bandits know where you are. I had the idea of only making one in game and then only telling "trusted" people might not work but it creates RP

been setting up a casino in Gorka myself. if you want to make a survivor settlement, my opinion make friends. let the bandits be your friends, in fact for me I work very hard to become friends to influencing groups like Rodina, Chedaki or Blackwood. it's not easy talking diplomacy but you know... Asian persuasion

Setting up towns is a cycle of insanity.

It's like doing the same thing over and over again expecting that this time it will be different, this time, it will last.

It has been done, will continue to be done and should be more frequent with the introduction of persistence once again.

It makes me really miss the mod days, with all the different towns and hubs I feel like it added so much more to the game aswell as a feel of territory control

There's been a lot of talk about this very same subject in the time I've been here, that's a pretty good indication of the state of things I would say. Someone who pulled off the idea pretty well was Amy Strange, and her pub. But even they had to relocate periodically when people figured out where they were.

I personally would like to see Rolle announce a 'safe zone' in game that will be used as a trading post/settlement. That way the settlement will avoid any trouble and bandits due to it being a designated area, or something similar. I think that could work and should at least be attempted. But that's just my opinion.

Yeah but isn't it more fun struggling to set up the safe zone as survivors, fighting of the bandits or making deals........nah who am I kidding it never last long, the old days with the trade zone could be good, but it might not be as people just hid in there or just spend there whole time in the safe zone once.

USAF has been in the process of setting something up for a few weeks now. It's mostly just been planning, but as soon as the update happens everything will immediately be set in motion.

true in all sense, but if a safe zone is set up then the level of banditry around it will rise as people will know it is a hotspot of activity the same as green mountain and the same in the old days with established zones, and thats the problem with zones, and yes people can Rp with that beats having every 8/10 people being a soldier who is also is a doctor.

It has been done before, and it had different outcomes. Some were great, others were less great.

It all comes down on what kind of rp'ers you got with you, and what kind of characthers come around.

hi "fence", yeh we have a few places we set up trade at and got some good RP and met some strange and also interesting people! don't let people put you off been a trader as there isn't many of us out there, however be prepared to have more than your fare share of run-ins with bandits!

personally speaking i like the trade character  as you really do have to think on your feat when it comes to RP  especially when bartering with your goods, we have had our stores running for about 3 weeks, held up once, agreed to store narcotics for another group, met arms dealers and traded with many other people!

thats how it went for us, hope that helped a little!

I'd know that setting up any survivor town will bring down a ton of heat, and I figured to protect myself I'd enlist the help of bandits, bandits bring in supplies they've earned, honestly or not, and they'd be able to trade for a better deal for our own gear. A group protected by bandits wouldn't be a group you'd want to hold up, but I think it'd probably bring the heroes and everyday survivors to hate us, looking at us like Negan's group in Walking Dead. o_O

Hey man! I've been looking forward to a new town again. Dolina isn't popular anymore and of course the next will end up the same way but a suggestion for you if you plan to be a trader. I would do so but only offer your business and your location to those you can trust, don't publically broadcast who you are and where you are just do so with US Soldiers or British Soldiers yadda yadda, whoever seems nice, and seems like a good set of people.

Please good God not that again. That was done back in the mod but it was nothing but trouble. People would sit in it all day to avoid being robbed and yet some people would still try roberries in the tp even though it was a rulebreak. Tldr it didn't work at all.

Not making a "trade post" at the moment, but I'm trying to create a new settlement now, where people can go to.

Thing is, I need to get the word around without posting it up on the forums or anything. As I don't want to see initiations 24/7 at the place.

If the settlement goes well, I might do some actuall effort and make a group thread :)

People continue to try it over and over. and the same thing happens every time. groups find out about it and go and take it over or kill everyone. Eventually no one goes near it for fear of their life. But a traveling trader would be more viable.

would be nice to see a real trading out post tho .. where no clan goes there to take over.. GM is bad now.. every single time i go to GM i get robbed .. with out fail.
