Hostage Rule Change

Recommended Posts

Stagsview    587

Hello there Community,

Within the staff team we have been discussing the current situation with the hostage rule. We have noticed that when people are taken hostage they tend to have an attitude towards the hostage takers. When people attempt to save the hostages lives, the solution always ends in a blood bath, a PvP focused scenario and no real RP evolves from the situation.

We have come to the conclusion that the saviors or friends of the hostage always go in guns blazing and don't or nearly never try to RP out the situation. The protection shield of that if the hostage is complying, you can not kill them. This rule has been continuously abused  since  was implemented.

Since then, we have decided to put this new rule on a trial period, we as staff want to always try and promote RP within this community so now, with the new updated rule here about rescuing hostages.

What we wish to do with this change is encourage that the attackers or hostage rescuers push for valuing their friends life during their rescue attempt. In doing so, the hostages can now be killed under some very specific circumstances. This circumstance is after the hostage takers have contacted the rescuers and demanded they stop shooting or the hostage may be killed if they do not hold fire. If you attempt a rescue you must be able to contact the hostage if the hostage takers allow it. You have to allow a reasonable amount of time to engage in negotiations.

You may not:

  • Kill the hostage as soon as shooting occurs.
  • Use this as an opportunity to metagame while a hostage.
  • Use this rule to demand unrealistic things.
  • You may only kill the hostage when they refuse to stop shooting after demanded within a reasonable timeframe.

What is a "reasonable" time frame

It's pretty situation based.

Case-by-case basis. We don't want to define a set amount of time as each situation is different.

Clearly five seconds would not be a reasonable amount of time, for example.

I can't +1 this enough! Never had been in a situation like this, but hopefully this rule takes the necessary steps to keep it that way.

Situation based....

seems like that might cause a major issue for reports. Especially when a definite time isn't decided.

We can't really set a timer since situations may differ, hopefully people can use logical sense.
