eSATA questions and help please.

Recommended Posts

OK now I have currently started recording videos to start making episodes on you tube and I believe my current drive is insufficient for the job and am looking at other options.

Now my plan is to upgrade my M17X's standard 500gb HDD with one of these: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1tb-seagate-8gb-serial-25-solid-state-hybrid-drive-sata-6gbs-64mb

Now once the old 500Gb one is removed I want to connect it up to the eSATA port on my laptop and possibly use that as extra recording space, now I want to use the eSATA as it has a much higher data transfer rate then USB so my question is how do I connect it up?

I have the HDD in my laptop that will be used will I need an IDE to eSATA converter? and also an eSATA to eSATA cable and that's it?

Also will the HDD be powered off the eSATA or will I need an external power source?

Any help is much appreciated.

Also here is a plug for my Youtube channel please have a look and subscribe if you like what you see: http://www.youtube.com/user/Walshy690

Also links to items I may need to buy would be awesome please.

Cheers
