Who am I?

Anything you want me to be

Today I am Scarlet

Today I am new

Scarlet was born and raised in SLC, Utah. She grew up in a nice neighbourhood with her two younger sisters Lucia and Jennifer and their father Michael. Her father was a very creative man who liked to do a lot of things but never once finished a project because he had no patience. She loved to follow him around and tease him about all the unfinished projects lying around his shed in the back yard claiming that she will one day finish all of them herself making him proud. She was extremely connected to her father and it pained her to see him sad. When her mother died while in labor with her youngest sister Jenny her father was left to tend to three girls and she knew she had to do everything and anything to help him get back on his feet after her mothers tragic death. She started working at a very young age, putting aside every penny she could so she could pay for her own college when the time came. Years passed and she grew into an ambitious young woman who wanted to see the world so, with a great deal of pain in her heart but certain that her family could now live on their own, she left home to go study in Europe to become a nurse. After 5 years in college and 2 years of practice she finally got her diploma and she could move on. She joined a mission with three doctors and two more nurses to go to a country in need of help with a disease they couldn't diagnose.

Once they arrived in Kirovograd they were called to the hospital urgently as the disease has spread to more people. The disease had similar symptoms to early stages of rabies but it was different. People were having migraines, their skin slowly turned paler and paler, fever and spasms all pointed to rabies but the more they observed the people the more the rabies theory faded. It was a puzzle that even the three renowned specialists that came with Scarlet to the town couldn't figure out.

One night while she was sleeping in the hospital, in between shifts, she was woken up by a loud scream. The rest of the staff woke up too and as they approached the room where the scream came from her blood turned to ice. There, in front of the room, and in front of all of them a man was leaning over a woman, eating her flesh. The woman reached her hand towards Scarlet looking at her with a terrified look on her face, coughed a load of blood and dropped dead on the spot. Everything went silent. The world stopped turning as the man turned his face towards the hospital staff. His eyes with a thick cataract, completely white, skin was a pale, greenish color, his arm missing from elbow down...

People started screaming as the corpse started running towards them but no one dared move, like they turned to stone, frozen in fear. Scarlet gathered all the strength she had in her and ran as fast as she could back to her room. She locked her door and started searching through the drawers and wardrobes taking everything she could and stuffing it into her bag. When she got what she could she opened the window and climbed out on the ledge shutting the window so the corpse couldn't follow her. All she could hear was the screams of the undead clawing and the door, breaking the glass. She ran away and hid in a house that looked abandoned.

Once she gathered her breath she rolled back the things she saw and heard on the streets. There was no one. Not a soul. Not a car. Not a sound. Something went very wrong these past few days when she was denied contact with the outside world. She peered outside the window and what she saw made her want to scream but she had no voice. She stood there, looking through the window at the slow movements of a crowd of what seemed to be people. Only they were not people anymore...

She tried the telephone but the lines were cut. She tried her cell but there was no signal. It was as if she was the only one left alive in the world. Trying to figure out what her next step was, she heard a loud shot from a shotgun. In panic she started searching through her bag frantically and when she finally gripped it she let out a sigh of relief. She pulled it out of the bag loaded it with the bullets her father gave her the day she was leaving home.

----------------------------------------------

"Always keep it close to heart and remember.

Judge before firing a bullet.

If you do the right thing, I will always be there.

Make me proud kiddo..."

----------------------------------------------

She got up put the bag on her back and her pistol in her hand, loaded it and slammed the door down with her foot. The corpses started screaming like there was no tomorrow as she ran out of the house across the street and into a side ally trying to lose the walking dead. As soon as she lost them she heard another shot. It was not far away so she started running towards the shots as fast as she could. The guy never told her his name but he screamed:

"Quickly! Go to the town square! There is a refuge, barricaded fenced off. You will be safe there. Go and tell the UN another horde is coming from the south! Go.. NOW!"

She ran as fast as she could, her tears drying on her face as her whole life flashed before her eyes. Mom. Dad. Lucy. Jenny.

When she wiped her tears she saw it. A massive fenced up area in the middle of the town square. She ran towards the fence and screamed what the man told her to say. The military looking people let her in then sent out a troop of 10 men armed to the teeth. A female soldier showed her to one of the big tents where she could gather herself.

A tear rolled down her cheek as she dropped to her knees. She was finally safe. For now.

Entry No. 1

I can stilll smell the scent of freshly mown lawn infront of our family house. I can still hear the bees buzzing in my dad's private shed where he kept his beehives he was so proud of. Every time I close my eyes, the laughter of my mother and sisters would fill my head, calming my uneasy mind and helping me gather my thoughts so I could survive another day. I wish I could have stayed with them and even if it meant dying in a couple of hours I wouldn't have left. We could have been all together... Dad,mom... Jenny, Lucy... I wish I could turn back time..

But i can't...

And now I'm here. Miles and miles away from home, stranded in a land full of strangers, people gone rouge, guns blazing, sirens and screams of the living and the dead. What did this world turn into?

Uppon arrival to Kirovograd we were called urgently to the nearby hospital as the local doctors were unsure of what they were dealing with. Kirovograd was a large town, with massive industrial building. Infact, the industrial area was far larger than the living area. From what I gathered later, people that lived in the town mostly worked a few blocks away from their home. The living space was provided to the workers and their families in return for service. Income was low, people barely survived the month but noone complained. Atleast not aloud.

As the rest of the town, the hospital was worn out, bullet holes everywhere, the ceelings had holes, the thing was barely standing on it's foundation, but we did not care. As soon as we got to the hospital we were advised to put on our uniforms and were taken to the infective ward down in the basement. What we thought was a case of rabies flying around turned out to be something far worse.

Entry No. 2

I finally found some time to write after such a long time. I've been helping the UN with wounded people that needed medical help in the quarantine, there's not enough med supplies but the bigger problem is that with the amount of people to take care for there is not enough people with medical training so I keep my mind busy with helping who I can. Things have gone from bad to worse. People have gone mad, streets overrun by... undead people. Yes, It sounds crazy, but that's what's happening, all the movies that we've watched, the gore, blood, decomposing corpses walking, it all came true. What we thought was early stages of rabies was a turning period for some virus that spread all across town. People started barricading apartments, streets are cluttered with trash, broken down cars crashed into eachother from when people panicked seeing a horde for the first time. The corpses are roaming the streets freely, it's almost impossible to avoid them. They are drawn to blood, flesh, the heat of the human body. Some of us managed to make it into the center of the town where the UN established a safezone. It's barricaded with broken down cars, bars, fences and anything else they could use to keep the corpses out. People are desperate, searching aimlessly for their families, cramping the gates every time they open to let people in or out. The fear and panic have driven some people to insanity, while others still struggle to keep their minds on the right track.

Some people started a riot within the refuge and the UN barely contained the situation. A few people got shot in the rebellion and two people died. One of the two guys that died was a single parent of a six year old girl. I can't imagine how much of a shock it was to her to see her father get shot and bleed out infront of her. One of the older women in the quarantine took the girl in without second thoughts. I guess there still is good people in the world. As for the rest, chaos is consuming them quickly. People fear for their lives even in the only place we were remotely safe in.

I've noticed some people acting weird, sneaking around, speaking under voice with eachother, looking around to see if anyone is watching. I can feel something bad is going to happen and I'm not gonna stick around to see what it's gonna be. I've been talking with some people and they think the smartest thing to do is leave before the camp is either overrun by the corpses or by teh rebellion building up within it. We've not yet decided which direction we will go but we'll figure it out as soon as we gather all the supplies that we will need for the trip. All that is left now is to sit tight and wait till someone figures out a location.

At this point ANYWHERE is better than here.
