Chernarus Post, Channel 101.7 (Use to Contact Couriers for Deliveries)

Recommended Posts

Davos    5

It had been a long journey, but Yuri had completed his first major step in the task of restoring postal and communication routes in the country. Feeling he had earned a little down town, he had found an abandoned cabin down the road from the Green Mountain radio tower, and was quietly eating a can of tuna and washing it down with some cold water he had been able to pump out of the well. It wasn't much, but until he had a chance to go hunting, the food would have to hold him for a while.

He had never been much more than a simple delivery man, bringing people their mail, how he had thought he might be able interview people for the positions he would need filled, and during the end times was beyond him. It was his sincere hope that he could find a wise, and clever man to take over this burden for him. Yuri was no good at management, and had barely kept his position while things had been good. Yes he was friendly and helpful, but he tended to take burdens on himself. It had been the others suggesting that they do this, find a leader, someone to guide them in the reconstruction.

Now it seemed it was just him. A haggard mailman, looking to restore some order to the chaos that his country had become. He glanced at the radio, merely feet away from him, in hopes that someone would find his poster and call in to him. They were scattered through Chernarus, and in most major cities, so hopefully it was only a matter of time.

David picks up his radio after hearing the message, speaking clearly into the radio with a southern accent. His voice being scrambled onto the radio as a simple message.

"Do you accept temporary jobs? I don't want to make myself an official take in this, but hey I need something to do. Hope you understand, name's David by the way."

Hearing the response on the radio, Yuri casually leaned over and scooped it into his hand. Pressing down on the broadcast button, and waiting a few seconds for a clearer signal, he responded in his thick Chernarussian accent.

"David, good day. We are looking for something similar, Express Couriers I will call them, someone who has radio open to receive instructions for pickup and deliveries. But if we are to maintain neutrality and integrity of packages and organization, we have to have people belong and be recognized. This is for the reconnection of Chernarus to make us whole once again. For that we need people dedicated. If you would wear our uniform, perhaps we could let such a loose tie be accepted."

Letting go of the transmitter, he sighed once he knew it wasn't sending out a signal. He began to wonder if anyone would really feel dedicated to the cause, or if they would simply do it for the provisions and safety. Of course truth be told, that was not the worst way to find dedicated people. Desperate people finding acceptance were often not the most trustworthy.

This gentleman did not sound desperate, simply bored. Yuri shrugged. At this point, if someone would put on the uniform and not disgrace it, he was willing to take them on, at least to help them get started. He wished he were a smarter or more charismatic man that could make others wish to help him. But he was not. Hopefully such a person would come around.

Hearing the message through the static of her shoddy radio Lumina begins to honestly consider the man's offer. It'd keep her thoughts at bay and maybe she'd get to meet at least some decent people.

Clicking down the transmission button on her radio she speaks into it.

"Hey ther -Bzzt-. My name is Lumina Stalsky, I understand you are looking for cou-Bzzt-. I'd be more than willing to offer my services... Besides... I'd kinda like to get away from G-bzzt- Mountain. As a side note... I don't have any prior experience in courier work... but I am in decent shape. At least I'd like to think so."

Yuri quickly scooped up the radio once more, waiting a moment, and then started to broadcast.

"Stalsky, I read you. Yes we are looking for couriers. Right now we are without dispatch, but we would be happy to employ your services if you feel you are up to the task."

Taking out a pen and paper, Yuri jotted down the name Lumina Stalsky in his journal, and wrote 'courier' beside it. She sounded friendly enough, and not likely hostile, not that anyone had a reason to be hostile towards him or the idea. He would have to schedule a meeting with her at some point if he was to give her an assignment, and a location to start in. Of course, for now he might just let her do as he did, and attempt to find recruits willing to join while delivering what mail people ask to have taken.

"We will have to schedule time and place to meet. I am waiting for more to answer the call, and we will get together to go over details."

After a few hours of walking and scavenging for supplies, Vick decides to call it a day and find a suitable resting spot. Spotting what seemed to be an abandoned farm house, he gathered a few sticks and stones and started to make a fire to heat up an old can of beans. Laying down his back pack, he remembered that he found an old handheld radio that seemed to still be functioning.

Switching on the radio and only hearing empty static, he had nothing better to do than flip through the different frequencies out of curiosity. He then picked up a transmission from a man looking for volunteers to help with delivering mail and packages around the country. Seeing this as an opportunity to put himself to good use, meet new people along the way, and to help others he decided to reply...

"Calling the representative of the Chernarus Post -static-. My name is Victor Jay, and upon receiving your transmission I would like to offer my services to the few survivors in need of mail and package delivery -static-. I can also offer my services in the form of a singing telegram courier if needed -static- and would have no problem traveling wherever the mail is needed. Please respond, over -static-."

Yuri, surprised to get another response, so soon, quickly picked up the transmitter where it hung, took a calming breath and replied.

"This is Yuri of the Chernarus Post. Victor, thank you for responding. We would happy for your services with us. For now, if you find anyone in need of a courier, you can call yourself one of us. Take what payment you feel necessary, until we can get a proper system in place. We are without dispatch right now, so you will be on your own, but can contact me via radio on this channel, I have an old military radio wired into a car battery, so I should be able to keep it live for a while, I hope..."

He set the handset down beside the monstrous old radio that a passer by had helped him rig to a car battery. It was an old model, but reliable. He only wondered how long might it last. He megan to decide if he should perhaps search for batteries today, or tomorrow for his handset. Although the range on it was poor at best, he could at least attempt to to keep in contact with the two new couriers with it while he traveled.

Louie switched on his radio, turning the knob until he was on the desired frequency. He wasn't sure if anyone from the post was still listening, but he might as well try his luck.

"Hello, this is Louie Walker, I received word that some sort of postal service was recruiting. Before the outbreak I worked as a mailman with the US Postal Service, and since the outbreak I've been making a living as a package courier. I'm glad I'm not the only person out there still delivering mail. If I may, I'd like to offer my services"

Adrian looked at his radio, attaching wires from a car battery to his handheld radio with copper wires insulated with a coating of electrical tape, making sure it was all in place and he was sure that it would work he held it in his hand, thinking. Earlier that day he had meet a person mentioning a post office of sorts that was hiring and decided to change the tuning on his radio to the frequency and listen for awhile, hearing a few people talking occasionally. He finally raised it up to his mouth and began to speak...

"This is Adrian Azarov, I've heard of a recent opening for a job of sorts to deliver mail, I'll do it. Full time if possible, I need to get by some how. I may not of been a mail man before this disastrous place, but I'm sure I can mange and figure it out."

*Kazimir takes out a piece of paper containing a list of frequencies and notes about the communications that have taken place on them, marking them off as he responds to them*

"Hello Yuri. I am Major Kazimir Veselovsky of the Ministry of the Interior, former police chief of Gorka, and head of counter-terrorism forces within South Zagoria, the COBR. We have been listening to this frequency over the course of the past week. It is good to see that such things as our postal service are recovering. We have been working alongside the army, and other groups to make South Zagoria a safer place so that life can return to normal for all who desire it. We are trying to build up a police force again, but it seems that fewer regulatory officers survived in comparison to our counter-terrorism personnel. The situation here is tense now, as several groups are plotting to harm us and are making threats."

*Kazimir pauses as he thinks of what to say next*

"I am not making this transmission in the hopes that you will re-join the government which is forming, and I can fully understand your desire to remain neutral. We too have attempted to remain neutral, this being made difficult due to the fact that many individuals would seek to prevent us from fulfilling our oath to the people. I would however, on the behalf of Chief Minister Konstantin Akulov and myself, like to offer you our thanks for taking a brave first step forward to normalcy. If you or any of your couriers require assistance, then please contact us on 144.28, or the army on 132.65. We can also offer food and medical supplies if required. Thank you for continuing to serve Chernarus, even in these dark times."

*Kazimir draws a line through "Chernarus Post - 101.7" and continues down the list of frequencies*

Jack Whiskey stands in the middle of a field over a corpse of a runner. As he stares into the lifeless eyes he notices a piece of paper blowing across the field. Jack walks over to the paper and places his foot on it, so it wouldn't blow again. He picks it up and begins to read. He thinks to himself, "This could be very beneficial". Jack places the paper into his cargo pocket and walks to the treeline.

Once Jack is out of plain sight he takes out the paper and his radio from his cargo pants. He switches the channel of the radio from 91.1 to 101.7 and pushes the transmit button

This transmission is for the Chernarus Post. My name is Jack Whiskey and I am in need of your services. I need some information distributed to the four corner of the land. I would like to propose a rendezvous point of Northwest Airfield. If you can assist me please radio me on 91.1 when you reach the predetermined location. I will escort you from there. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Jack switches his radio back to 91.1 and puts it back into his pocket. He throws the paper on the ground hoping it might reach someone else that needs assistance. He walks in the direction of the closest town to scavenge paper and pens.

After hearing rumors of this new courier service and the job potential Alex finally finds the radio channel. After much deliberation he decides, why not.

"Uuuh hey, just wondering....are there still openings for jobs?"

With a sigh he sits back down hoping...

After a week of traveling, Yuri was finally back safely at the cabin. After only moments of being back, he heard a call come in on the radio. Quickly grabbing his transmitter he caught his breath and answered.

"This is Yuri, yes we are still looking for couriers. Is this something you have done before?" he asked, not catching a name, but not wishing to ask outright over the radio.

Picking up the transmitter once again, Yuri quickly answered back.

"That is correct, we are still hiring couriers. There are people left, and a few towns trying to pull themselves together. Our hope is to give them a source to communicate with each other. If you are looking for a job that involves seeing people, you sure called the right place."

Yuri set down the transmitter and drank the recently warmed up coffee. He had made it this morning, but had never finished it as his supply of firewood and been severely depleted.

Yuri pondered where he could meet the gentleman. At the moment he had avoided giving away the location of the cabin for fear of bandits taking his radio, or the military attempting to reclaim it. His thoughts drifted to Green Mountain, but he was unsure if the stranger would know if it.

"If you can get yourself a map of the area, find a way to Vybor, its a pretty big town, but South East of that town is a huge radio antenna. The place is called Green Mountain, and some of the people there are shady, but its safer than being in the open with the infected running around. Go to Green Mountain, you ought to be able to get some things you need from trade, and we can go from there."

Ed sits on the edge of the construction site roof with his legs hanging over the edge. He would turn the dial of his radio and tune into 101.7.

"Break break one-oh-one dot seven. This is Private Ed Jekyll of the 501st. We can station a courier drop zone at our camp. We have plenty of people passing through each day so it can be useful for your, uh, post office business. Over."

Ed releases his grip on the microphone and awaits a response. He looks out to the setting sun and watches an infected person chase a cow.

"No I haven't, well not that I remember. My name is Alex by the way, Alex Moore. I tend to hang around Green Mountain in case you want to meet in person."

He sits back down, takes a long drink of water and rests until a reply is heard.

"How would you like a.. "partnership" of sorts, i run a *Pauses and laughs.* Different kind of "Courier" service. But it cannot be successfully done without communications service. Carter slides his radio out of his pocket, running through his regular check of the stations, when he comes across a broadcast on the 101.7. Nervous, he decides to attempt contact to whoever started the transmission.

"Hello? Anyone present on this channel? Not sure if anyone is listening, but I heard you fellas were looking for Couriers. The name's Carter. Carter Dunlap. I've been on my feet most of my life, so if you need me for a job, I'm here. I check any available transmissions each morning, you can probably catch me around dawn. Not really sure what else to say, but if you'll have me, I'm in. Good luck to you if not, and keep up the good work."

The radio starts to give out from prolonged use. Carter slaps the battery area a few times, hoping it snaps back into play.

"You gotta be kiddi*static*. Don't know *static* hear me, but you'll find me *static* Green Mountain, if you *static* in person. Like I said, I'd love to take up a j-"

The radio cuts out, seemingly for good, however Carter has high hopes that his shaky transmission reached someone from the Post. He slips the radio back in his jacket, rises from his nook of a tree, and begins the long journey down the road of the unknown.

With so many responses, Yuri did his best to respond to all of them, as he tried to keep them in order in his head. This was the first burst of communication on this station since he had set it up, or at least taken over the channel officially. It was both a good and bad thing. If he had someone to keep track it would be wonderful, but he could only do his best as the others he had recruited were already out there, delivering mail.

"Come back Ed, Repeat, Come back Ed, this is Yuri Petrovich. If you would like a courier at your camp, we request one be elected from your group to act as one, and we will sponsor him and keep him in the loop, but right now I don't have enough couriers to station anyone anywhere in particular."

He paused for a moment, trying to remember who else had contacted him. Yes, it was Alex who was asking about a job.

"Roger Alex, I would be happy to meet you in person, we will have to arrange a time, as you can see I am pretty busy here at the moment."

He believed the next was a man named Jeff. But his question was rather strange, and he wasn't sure how to answer. It sounded like he wanted to use the Post's services less so than join up.

"I'm sorry Jeff, I don't understand what you mean. Are you requesting use of our service?"

Last was Carter, looking for work, which Yuri was more than happy to to accept. People were starting to come and find him, asking to join and it was starting to look up.

"Carter, this is Yuri from the Chernarus Post. We are always looking for new couriers, and if it is something you are interested, I'm sure we could use your help. We will have to meet up on the mountain. I hope you get this transmission and find yourself well."

Now it was time for Yuri to catch his breath. That was a lot to remember, so he quickly pulled out an old notebook and one of his still working pens and began to take notes, trying to keep his logs updated. Now that the station was getting so many calls he would have to find or make a more proper logbook of broadcasts for future reference.

With a fresh battery, Carter's radio crackles back to life. It's Yuri, from the Chernarus Post. Despite being chased by some dead ones, Carter slips his radio out of his jacket and attempts to reply.

"Thank God someone got that, I thought I was sending words into static. *panting* If we need to meet on the Mountain, I'll try to *pant* make my way there and stick around today. I'll ask around for your name, you do the same for me, I'll answer. *panting* I got some dead ones on my tail, but I'm outrunning them. I should make it there *pant* by noon... We'll go through formalities there. *pant* Stay safe Yuri, we need more people like you out the- OH SH-"

The radio cuts to static, still receiving but not sending. One can only assume the worse, but Carter is quick on his feet, and he knows it. Presumably trekking to Green Mountain, he only hopes to find Yuri or another Chernarus Postie there.
