History

It was created in 1994 from the 901st Air- Assault Battalion (created in 1979) and 218th Spetsnaz Battalion of the Russian Airborne Troops, (created in 1992). Colonel Pavel Popovskikh is credited with the creation of the 45th as a “subunit of the future”. The unit is part of the Russian Airborne Troops (VDV) and directly subordinated to VDV Headquarters. However it is also operationally subordinate to the GRU.

Backstory

On November 20th a small group of the 45th Detached Reconnaissance Regiment received orders to go to South Zagoria and gather intelligence on the infection and the status of the CDF, UN Forces and the Civilian Population. The reason for this deployment is so the Kremlin will know what to expect should the quarantine fail completely and the infection spreads to Russia. The soldiers were told in no uncertain terms that when they were in there no help would be coming and that they would be on their own. Although the orders had left out one important thing... they wouldn't be coming back.

The high command had taken the decision that the men wouldn't be allowed back until either a cure was found or the quarantine was lifted this was to prevent them from carrying the disease back with them. In order to prevent the men from deserting they had not been told they would not be allowed to return.

The soldiers were given a thorough briefing on the Area of Operation by Intelligence Officers which covered the Province, the Infection, the International Response, their Objectives and points of interest such as Green Mountain and the large Military Airbase in the North West.

On the 22nd of November the detachment had reached the Russian side of the quarantine line and were preparing to cross that night. The men wrote final letters to their family and left them with the officer responsible for seeing them off and after double checking their gear trudged off into the night. The first major town they encountered was called Svetlojarsk the team had planned on a stealthy approach to the town but this plan was soon ruled out after a brief encounter with a small number of armed men which left the patrol commander Vasily Novikov dead along with the patrol's radio operator. The patrol was now under the command of Mark Saitov the patrols second in command who had to keep his men alive long enough to survive this hell and complete their mission.

Well then Frozen, this is the beginning of your language teaching career.

Anyways enough free bumps. Feedback.

I like the idea of you using a Reconnaissance Regiment, instead of a infantry/mechanized one, it makes the group fit perfectly with the goals and the rest of the back story.

The back story is good, and actually makes a lot of sense on why a Russian group would be in Chernarus. Im just a little curious how the Patrol Commander died right off the bat, and by who? But im guessing its a filler so it doesn't matter much. Though it is like i said a great, simple back story.

Now in the goals it states "Recruit local survivors to bolster our ranks and help complete our objectives." Im just curious on why? The lore is only a few weeks/days into the apocalypse and it is a Russian Detachment, why would they have the need for new recruits right off the bat?

Recruiting local survivors is more to do with allowing non-Russian characters to be in the group but RP-wise...

1. It's similiar to how NATO forces in the middle east worked with local militias to ease the strain on themselves and also give them a view point from out side the box so to speak.

2. Locals have local knowledge and going by a favorite saying of mine "maps are out of date as soon as they're printed" these locals may know more than the Russian Forces on the fine details of the province and the events after the quarantine and radio jamming was put in place.
