An inkling of Roy

The radio from the M109A6 Paladin Howitzer blared to life as

the FDC (Fire Direction Control) declared a fire mission.

Specialist Roger fires up the engine of his hefty machine

and his section chief starts calling out instructions for

the round to go down range.

Roger has done this so many times it's like clockwork. Sitting with his records in hand, ready to record down the fire mission data, he glances over his shoulder to verify that he did indeed turn on the fan,

without which the wolf pussy (smoke) would fill the gun.

The back of the gun a flurry of movement with the three men

doing their jobs. As the last round heads down range he

hears something over the radio. The man on the other

end, sounding hurried and panicked, said that the mission

had been compromised and to get out of there at all speed.

Roy had to have been mistaken, for it sounded like he heard

something about zombies and the radio transmission getting

cut short.

He asks his Chief if they were ready to head out. "Yes." He replies. "Lets head back to base."

Knowing his Chief heard it too, but not commenting on it, they all head home.

To be Continued.
