1. What is Operation Goliath?

Operation Goliath is the end-game event for the council faction and a PvP-RP event hosted by the dayzRP staff.

It could very well be the largest consecutive event ever attempted in dayzRP's history, because it will be in the shape of a "mini-campaign" that will take place over an entire weekend.

The event will be divided into four missions, all smaller in nature, and they will all take place on a different map then Chernarus, namely the island of Napf, where the council have fortified themselves.

The first mission will focus on players, along with the UEF and CTC, attempting to secure a beachhead on Napf. The second and third missions will focus on destroying council bases and securing more territory on the island of Napf, all in preparation for the fourth and final assault on the main council stronghold on a smaller island to the northwest.

Each mission will feature different spawns, different whitelists and with a different focus, and meant to bring out the various aspects and tactics of the council faction. There will also be a pause between each mission, where players will be able to skirmish with council troops in the field, gather more resources for the future missions and calmly roleplay around the campfires with their fellow soldiers.

2. The Background

The war has been raging for almost half a year now, for some longer then that. Hundreds if not thousands of people have died in the conflict, but despite the council's superiority in firepower and numbers, they havent manage to crush the resistance of the South Zagorians.

Following the council's descicive defeat at Skalisty island, the UEF and the CTC expected the council forces to retreat to their bases in the north. But they were surprised to see that instead the council troops did the direct opposite, they retreated to the south.

They abandoned several airfields and compounds in the north and moved all their remaining forces to the island of Napf. The small CTC outpost there was quickly destroyed, and many of the local survivors on the island were rounded up and shot.

Why they have done this is unknown, but the CTC and the UEF have not hesitated: This is perhaps their one chance to push the council off the region before they recieve reinforcements from elsewhere and continue their attacks.

To do this, Napf must be succesfully invaded, and the main council base must be captured. Although this is a gargantuan task by any standards, the UEF and the CTC are throwing everything they have left into the operation. And just as before, they're asking for south zagorian volunteers to help tip the scales in their favor.

3. When, Where and Preparations

The event will take place on Saturday and Sunday, August 16th and August 17th. There will be a total of four missions, two for each day.

Mission 1 will be 14:00 server time and mission 2 will be on 21:00 server time, all on Saturday. They're both expected to last around 1-2 hours.

Mission 3 will take place 14:00 server time and mission 4 will take place on 21:00, on Sunday. Mission 3 will likely last between 1-2 hours, but mission 4, the final assault, may take longer and last between 2-3 hours.

This will all take place on a whitelisted event server which will stay up for most of the weekend(unless it needs to go down tempoarily for maintenance/"resting" or whatever). It will also be on a separate database, and thus items will not carry over from the normal dayzRP servers.

Despite it being on a different map called Napf, and despite Napf being part of the epoch mod, it should not require a download of the epoch mod to play as we intend to use the map separatly from epoch.

You can download the files needed for the event here:

http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=17088

Put that stuff in the Arma 2 OA folder where mods usually go.

4. Operational Briefing

Operation Goliath, like the name hints, is a very big operation. We have to occupy and capture the entire island. The primary objectives include securing a beachhead, attacking the enemy's armor depots and then the enemy's airbases. Once that is done, we'll launch a final assault on their main base.

Our taskforce, codenamed "David" will move down from South Zagoria and circle around the island of Napf and attack it from the west. This is because the enemy strength is believed to be the strongest in the north, and we have to drain that strength gradually when we're on the island, or we wont stand a chance.

d3fa83d191.jpg

They have come far and wide to put an end to the council menace.

5. Mission 1: Beachhead

The only territory that the council is not likely to defend too stubbornly is the small island of Feldmoos.

We'll make our landing there and offload most of our supplies, manpower and vehicles. Thanks to the Dauntless being reasonably intact following the Skalisty battle, we should be able to use its defenses to make sure we arent constantly airbombed when we set up shop on Feldmoos.

To the east on Napf itself we have two targets that we need to seize in order to secure a beachhead: A fortress called Homburg and a large airfield. The airfield is heavily defended and as such, a direct assault is inpractical. However, fortunetly, the council stronghold at Homburg has artillery pieces that they're busy setting up. And we can use that to even the odds.

c863eec1a0.jpg

Taking Homburg is not going to be easy, the council will know that we're coming and they'll be ready for us. Still, using the Homburg artillery against the council at the airfield is the best chance we got to secure our new beachhead.

It is important to remember to not destroy too much of the airfield, because it is intended to act as our FOB on the island while we repell the rest of the council forces here.

Mission Objectives

Primary objectives

- Secure the enemy artillery at Homburg.

- Soften enemy resistance at the airfield using the captured artillery.

- Seize and capture the enemy airfield.

Secondary objectives

- Secure as many enemy vehicles as possible. Disabling them rather then destroying them may cause the crew to evacuate it, which means it can be repaired and used later on in the campaign.

- Reduce destruction of the airfield infrastructure, target just the defenses.

- Destroy as many council units as possible to prevent an organised and intact retreat.

Spawners

All friendly players(UEF, CTC and survivors) will spawn at Feldmoos island with basic equipment(Basic weapons, backpack and tools). Transport should be available.

All hostile council players will respawn at the airfield with their own basic gear. Taking the airfield from the council will thus be rather difficult, because they'll be spawning there. Expect a lot of infantry.

Nr.1 intermission

When the mission is complete, there'll be a 5-6 hour "break" before the next mission. During this break, everyone that was whitelisted for mission 1 can spend time on the part of the island that they have captured, which will roughly be the first quarter demonstrated on the map below.

aa29445548.jpg

Do note that you are -NOT- suppose to venture beyond the secured area of the map. This is done to give the campaign that "gradual territory conquering"-feeling and to preserve the later mission territories and preparations, and if you do venture outside you'll either be killed by a script(but warned first) that the devs will put in place, or an admin will show up in something hidiously overpowered and kill you.

During this time, there may be some skirmishes and "mini"-missions available within this territory. You may also just take the time to relax, or help gather supplies(Primarily from corpses or ammo-drops/hidden stashes, since normal loot will be toggled off to save FPS and preserve server stability.)

If for whatever reason the number of people interested in the intermission is very low, we may open it up to more people.

Whitelisting details

Whitelisting for this mission will open shortly.

There will be 40 available slots for this event.

Once you're whitelisted, you'll need to be online at least at 13:00 server time, or your spot will be given to a reserve.

6. Mission 2: The Depot

Once we have a foothold, it'll be time to advance inland. And although the council might will be mostly concentrated to the north of the island, we have to venture there regardless in order to attack a very important target: A council armor depot near the city of Lenzburg.

33ff358e31.jpg

Lenzburg will be swarming with council troops, but we cannot attack the depot without taking the city. Therefore, we'll need to move in and secure the city, building by building. There's likely to be a lot of close quarters urban combat and the council may even deploy booby traps around the city, so its going to be a slow and painful process. Casualties are likely. The only upside is that the council is also likely to have cleared the town of any surviving civilians and zombies.

Once we've secured the town, we'll have to take the depot itself. The smoother and quicker we do this, the more vehicles we may be able to secure for our own gain later on.

If we can not secure the depot in a maximum of two hours, then we expect the council forces to make a retreat and save their assets in order to defend the main base, which would make our assault there significantly harder.

Mission Objectives

Primary objectives

- Secure the city of Lenzburg.

- Secure the council armor depot.

Secondary objectives

- Secure as many enemy vehicles as possible. Disabling them rather then destroying them may cause the crew to evacuate it, which means it can be repaired and used later on in the campaign.

- Maximize council casualties

Spawners

All friendly players(UEF, CTC and survivors) will spawn at the HQ outside the city, with basic equipment(Basic weapons, backpack and tools). Transport should be available.

All hostile council players will respawn at the depot with their own basic gear. Taking the depot from the council will thus be rather difficult, because they'll be spawning there. Expect a lot of infantry.

Nr.2 intermission

When the mission is complete, there'll be a large "break" before the next mission. During this break, everyone that was whitelisted for mission 2 can spend time on the part of the island that they have captured, which will roughly be the half demonstrated on the map below. Do note that since the server is swedish and since it may be exhuasted from a whole day of events, it may go down later in the night to "rest" and/or for maintenance. Rolle can give definitive answers on this.

Do note that you are -NOT- suppose to venture beyond the secured area of the map. Whitelisting for this mission will open shortly.

There will be 40 available slots for this event.

Once you're whitelisted, you'll need to be online at least at 21:00 server time, or your spot will be given to a reserve. The briefing for the event will begin at 21:30 at the HQ.

Consequenses

If for whatever reason the depot is not captured/secured/destroyed after 2 hours from mission start, then the council forces will conduct an organised withdrawal from Lenzburg towards their main base to the northwest. They will then concentrate their armor there and make the final assault mission more difficult.

On the other hand, if the players manage to secure the depot, they will not have nearly as much armored support at the main base assault. There's also the chance players may secure some vehicles at the depot that they can use in the fight.

7. Mission 3: Airfield

At this point, roughly half of Napf should be under "alliance" control. But down to the southeast lies a remote airfield that could pose a significant threat to the main assault on the council main base. A large airfield, hidden between mountains, is home to a swarm of council aircraft and helicopters. This airfield needs to be taken and the air assets either captured or destroyed.

ce49d4962a.jpg

Its a fairly straight-forward attack. We'll set up HQ at Froburg castle and attack from there. Expect a lot of council infantry in the woods, and obviously, a lot of air assets trying to hammer you as you advance.

It is essential we seize the garrison close to the airfield. We may also find some AA weaponry there that we can use against the council air assets.

Mission Objectives

Primary objectives

- Secure the council garrison.

- Secure the airfield.

Secondary objectives

- Secure as many enemy air vehicles as possible. Try to prevent the crews from reaching them at the airfield.

- Maximize council casualties

Spawners

All friendly players(UEF, CTC and survivors) will spawn at the HQ at Froburg Castle, with basic equipment(Basic weapons, backpack and tools). Transport should be available.

All hostile council players will respawn at the airfield with their own basic gear. Taking the airfield from the council will thus be rather difficult, because they'll be spawning there. Expect a lot of infantry.

Nr.3 intermission

When the mission is complete, there'll be a large "break" before the next mission. During this break, everyone that was whitelisted for mission 3 can spend time on the part of the island that they have captured, which will roughly be the three quarters demonstrated on the map below.

8. Mission 4: The Final Assault

The grand finale. If we make it this far we've already done very well. The assault on the final base can either be a nightmare or just "reasonably difficult", depending largely on the turnout of mission 2 and mission 3.

If both missions were succesful, then council air and armor support will be limited.

Regardless, this is not going to be easy. We'll operate from a nearby airfield and then throw whatever assets and vehicles and supplies we've managed to secure along the way into the fight.

41fc14b715.jpg

It is an island, so it will be easily defended. And the council will without a doubt have it fortified. Think like the Skalisty island battle, but with the tables turned.

Despite the outcome of the previous missions, there will be some air and amphibious armor on the island. And of course, a shit-ton of infantry.

The main compound is located within the red circle, and that is the one that we need to secure. Doing so is easier said then done, but if we succeed, then we have total victory.

However, make sure not to destroy the main compound, just secure it. We're still not sure why the council moved all their forces back to Napf, and we still know very little about them. Any intel we can recover from the main compound can prove to be invaluable.

Finally, once we do get people on the ground at the island, they need to focus on taking out enemy AA positions and defenses. If they dont, those defenses may seriously jeopordize any aerial assistance, including reinforcement transports. We do know that there's infantry with portable launchers and even static AA emplacements. But most notable, there's also a few Tunguska AAA systems moving around on the island.

Mission Objectives

Primary objectives

- Assault the council island.

- Secure the main compound.

- Secury any intel at the main council compound.

Secondary objectives

- Destroy enemy AA positions and vehicles to make the reinforcement landings easier.

Spawners

All friendly players(UEF, CTC and survivors) will spawn at the HQ at the airfield, with basic equipment(Basic weapons, backpack and tools). Transport should be available.

All hostile council players will respawn at the compound with their own basic gear. Taking the airfield from the council will thus be rather difficult, because they'll be spawning there. Expect a lot of infantry.

Whitelisting details

Whitelisting for this mission will open shortly.

This is a slightly bigger event then the rest and thus there will be 40 open slots for this event.

Once you're whitelisted, you'll need to be online at least at 21:00 server time, or your spot will be given to a reserve. The briefing for the event will begin at 21:30 at the HQ.

9. The Rules

Despite the different nature of this event, the rules are largely the same, with one exception.

- Despite this being a PvP event, you cant just target any players that are running around. You only have KoS rights on council troops, and you are forbidden from initiating on and fighting other people in this event.

- This is a roleplaying event. That means that as many details of the experience should be roleplayed out. This includes fear, adrenaline, rage, trauma, injuries and whatever else. The more people that do this, the more immersive experience it will become for the rest.

- *new rule* After a mission, do not venture outside the "controlled area" on the map. Doing so will get you killed, and if we notice players trying to do this repeatadly we will remove their whitelist from the event server. This control-zone is made in order to maintain the spirit of the event as well as to maintain the fortifications and preprarations we're doing elsewhere on the map. You will be warned by an automatic script when you are about to enter the forbidden area, and there are plenty of maps in this thread to show where it will be. (it varies from mission to mission)

*Note: At the time this thread is released these maps are not yet ready. Stay tuned as I'll update the thread shortly with those maps*

- Do not fuck around or treat your fellow players like shit. IC grievances and such is fine, but players misbehaving in a trollish or inappropriate manner will be removed from the event server and, depending on the transgressions, may recieve bans from the main servers. Common sense and common decency applies.

- Listen to the briefing and event leaders, and try to stick to the objectives. This event has missions that are in a way similar to the arma2 campaign missions, except that they involve way more players and is set in a post-apocalyptic setting. For them to work as intended, players will need to try and focus on what is suppose to be done. They're free to do so in almost countless ways however, so there's still a great deal of liberty in the event and how players can achieve the goals.

10. Staff surpression policy and event dangers

The last big event had a very relaxed surpression policy. This event will continue down that path and relax it even further.

With the new policy, infantry is still very dangerous. They can shoot and kill as they please, but lethal long-range sniping will be limited.

But the new part is that light council vehicles are now more free to fire and kill enemies. This applies primarily to LIGHT vehicles such as littlebirds(using primarily miniguns) and armored cars(such as the Vodnik).

HEAVY council vehicles also have a relaxed policy, they CAN kill, but they're still meant to exercise caution so they dont overdo it.

In essence, all council forces will be more deadly then before, so caution is adviced.

They will also be more numerous then before, since people are attacking council bases where council players will be respawning. Expect a LOT of infantry when you try to attack those places.

Further event dangers

It goes without saying that this is going to be a dangerous event. And we will make the obvious assumption that players attending this event will be aware of this. Therefore, any event participants going to this event should be aware of their likely death. We'll be using spawners in every mission so that people that are killed can get back into the fight easily. And they will all start with a standard kit in the beginning which should make it easier for them.

Examples of dangers in the event include:

- Ambushes by council troops.

- Booby traps(including mines)

- Artillery fire

- Biological weapons.

- Who knows what else. You're in the council's back yard now.

11. Whitelisting procedure

The whitelisting procedure for this "campaign" is obviously a little different from other big events. This is because it is divided into four separate smaller missions(and intermissions) compared to the big single compact event.

When people whitelist for this event, they need to specify which mission they'd like to whitelist for. They can only whitelist for one of them, but if they wish they can ask to be put on the reserve list for another. If we for whatever reason dont have enough people for that mission, they may be brought in as reserves.

The same reserve procedures apply as before. We'll do them gradually and on an on-demand basis, but we also expect to have MUCH fewer reserves this time because we have four separate missions. Despite the slightly lowered capacity of 30 slots for each event(except the last, which has 40), this will triple the amount of people that will, one way or another, be able to attend the campaign event.

Essentially, once whitelisting is open, you type the following details in a reply to this thread. As usual, a "first serve"-basis applies.

EDIT: sorry if I missed this in the OP but when is the actual event taking place?

There's an entire section dedicated to when and where. It's called "When and where"

If there are technical complications with these preparations we'll let you know.

Damn. Just.... just damn. This is one huge event! To bad you can only whitelist for one mission. I mean i know you can be in the reserves for one or two more but still. I thank you Tomeran for putting in the effort to actually type up the monstrosity that is that post. That by itself is a Goliath.
