READ AND DESTROY

TO: Project Lead, D.Ops

FROM: O.Walker

Sir,

I have just received a message from an informative in the Joint Special Operations Command, Zargabad. They say they've detected movement within the border region. A small armed military convoy with negative markings, consisting of ONE armoured personnel transport and ONE off road civilian vehicle with what seems to be a mounted turret on top if it. JSOC have rerouted an air patrol towards the location of the convoy, they are aware of our wish to debrief and obtain information from the occupants of this convoy and are assured of their cooperation. We're currently monitoring radio frequencies for traffic to determine if a member of the previous incursion team has survived and where the convoy is heading.

One Day Earlier

Joseph perched on the edge of a old crooked bed in the attic room of a wooden tavern. They usually don't sell rooms to any old wanderer but Joseph paid the barkeep a hefty tip. The tavern sat next to a dirt road slap bang in the middle of a huge forest, it was unbelievably silent apart from the local wildlife. Birds chirped and the wind carried the musk of pine trees through cracks in between the logs that made up the building. He flicked out a rag from his pack with one hand, picked up his fine shoes with the other and started to clean them. His bag started let out a small jingle. Joseph reached in and dug out a small disposable phone and confirmed the call. An english man spoke through the phone, he sounded young "Right then, are you ready?".

"Yes, give me a few minutes though" Joseph replied. He peered out the foggy window and saw two men both armed standing by an rusty camouflage jeep, one on the phone looking back at him, the other checking the barrel of his sniper rifle and inspecting the body of it. He put away his shoes and instead brought out a pair of old, worn greyish-brown boots, he slung his bag onto his back and started to leave, the floor creaked as he stumbled down and off the set of stairs. The room was quiet apart from two burly men mumbling to each other he paused before plodding over towards the bar "A shot of your strongest vodka please"

The youngest of the two guns for hire was slumped in the car seat browsing his smartphone "Shit mate take a look at this" He lent forward and showed it to the driver, his eyes flicked from the road to the news report quickly.

"Fuck me, this aint gunna be good, we'll have to go a different route, there'll be mericans, NATO, UNFORT the full fucking monty" The driver moaned and slammed the steering wheel.

"I do hope this is not going to alter the contract friends" Joseph said. Joseph didn't know how long they had been driving for, it seemed like hours. The jeep kicked up clouds of dust behind them, pebbles clicked on the bottom of the metal under chassis. Joseph gazed out the window to the skies, beams of light attempted to break through the hostile grey clouds that covered us. As he looked back down Joseph was fairly sure he noticed a dark figure in the corner of his eyes as the trees flashed past. He pushed his face against the cold glass window, trying to find what he had spotted. Nothing...

They slowed down and turned right into another seemingly endless track but soon came to halt as they reached a clearing connected to the road. A beast of a vehicle was parked here, three men were dotted around, another two sat on the top of it playing cards. They stopped dealing and stood up when Joseph arrived. Their leader, a man who had a large beard and wore a boonie hat along with basic military gear like the rest of them had, approached him as Joseph hopped out of the car. "So, you're Mr Dova I presume" He spoke with a deep, rough voice.

"Doctor Dova actually" Joseph replied cockily.

Nah this is after that, just before the outbreak.

You should still continue that though btw.

Pit Stop

[mp3]https://db.tt/ThsaNMpm[/mp3]

The sand settled as the convoy decided to stop to take a break behind a sand dune. They all started to hop out of the vehicles, doors opened and hatches were released, the rag tag bunch of mercenaries pulled down the scarfs and face masks. A Korean man in his thirties 'Jun' the resident medic was first out of the LAV, as he stepped out he said over his shoulder "We're just gonna have a bit of R&R, is that all good? This thing's like a goddam oven in this sun" Joseph grunted as a reply. He ducked out of the hatch as he followed Jun out. Joseph was instantly blinded by the blistering sun which was cast over the golden sea that lay before him. He held his hand to cover his eyes as he straightened his back and stretched. The long period of time in the uncomfortable LAV made his whole body ache, like everything but his brain was screaming to get out and banging on all sides. Joseph recently found out that the two boys who drove him to meet up with their lovely comrades were twins, in fact one of the others is a cousin to them as well This will not be good if one of them dies, family and business should be kept separate, too many emotional bonds... He thought to himself as he rested in a foldable camping chair. 'Specs' as the others liked to call him threw Joseph a beer can, which hit his chest and landed on his lap, he picked up the can and looked at it in disgust. He slowly put the beer down onto the smooth sand, brushed himself off and walked over to Alan the driver of the armoured transport vehicle who currently stood with binoculars raised to his eyes. "When are we heading off?" He asked,

"Pretty damn soon take a look at that bad boy over there" Alan handed Joseph the binoculars, he looked through them, a massive dark curling sandstorm was slowly barreling towards them.

"Another route then I take it" Joseph was said sarcastically with a crocodile smile.

In The Heart Of The Storm

[mp3]https://db.tt/3lZsQnFS[/mp3]

A mortar whistled down right next to them. The explosion was deafening. They swerved to the left, the Jeep skidded and the back end flicked out, Specs yelled "Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck!" He desperately attempted to regain control of the car. They were in the heart of the storm, NATO, Rebels, both fighting to the death with no remorse. Adrenaline pumped through the ground and surged with each grenade detonation.

"Stop the fucking vehicle!" Screamed Jun as he looked out the small slit cut into the back of the LAV. The Jeep was on its side, smoke plumed out the back of it, a wheel bounced away as if trying to escape the wreckage. One by one they sped out the back as the hatch opened, guns raised, sights zeroed at an elevation of 100. The Jeep had crashed near a small sandstone hut with crumbling walls either side. They all sprinted over and slammed their backs against the wall "Hard cover" One of them screamed. Joseph crouched in the LAV, scared as hell, but he felt he could be equally as brave.

"Ryan!" Specs yelled as he clambered out of the car. His brother was unconscious in the back, Shit Joseph thought to himself not knowing if the brother of Specs was already cold or still kicking. He heard a popping sound as clouds of white smoke emitted from the ground. Hails of gunfire flew through the area coming down from the tops of the valley of death they were sat in, the pings of bullets upon metal as they struck the side of LAV. "Get the fuck in!" Alans voice crackled through radios. A rocket propelled grenade smacked into a dead tree they were stopped next to. The trunk flew, smashing into the side of the LAV. Joseph whipped forward smashing his head onto a control panel. All was dark for Joseph, dark and lifeless...
