Grammar lesson

Recommended Posts

Soren    0

Hey everyone, this post is not to taunt or point fingers at anyone, I am simply wanting to help. As a foreigner myself I had a tough time learning some important parts of the English grammar and yet after so many years of practice, I have a few mistakes here and there.

There are some common mistakes though, as displayed on the picture below. I see native English speakers make mistakes in this on the forum ever single day and it is quite shocking. I am not much of a grammar Nazi myself simply because I make mistakes all the time too, but these are some common ones that people will always notice and always hate, simply because they are really annoying. Here you go, once again I state it is only to help, not to flame.

For foreign speakers: It's always a plus to know all of these completely.

For native speakers: You should really know this.

Please use it and learn from it - it will benefit you in the future.

*I am simply wanting = I simply want

*I have a few mistakes = I have made a few mistakes

Just taking the piss. :D

Soren, your English is pretty fucking great all things considered. I think though that a lot of people, native speakers or not, make these mistakes not because they don't know the difference between your and you're, but because when they're in the flow of typing their brains derp and write words that are closely related...

... or at least that happens to me. :P I have typed thrown instead of throne... Don't ask me how. I very well know the difference (like, for example, one is a verb and the other a noun), but it just happens. I guess.

If you want to have a good laugh and get educated, read some of these comics. They're hilarious.

Also,

"WOULD OF" DOES NOT MAKE GRAMMATICAL SENSE.

You mean to write "would've" or "would have", please I beg you make this mistake no more.

English is not my first language and I cringe every time I see it.
