Rick 24 Posted May 8, 2014 Regardless of the train itself, I'm sure the tracks would be extremely mutilated by now from all the rubble and looting. The iron and wood on the tracks probably would have been taken for building materials. Trains would also be tremendously loud, and attract every zombie in the entire area. Spike9 1 Posted May 8, 2014 i vote plus one only for silly reasons. 1. train robbing or a hijacking. that would be so epic. and some fun rp if done right. 2. a hostage event that you "tie them to the tracks" for this it would need to be a timed event type thing. so that you could say you have until X:XX hours to save this person or they get the train. i really think it would be funny as hell to see a car chase end in some one in a car hit by a train. i dont see this ever working but hell it would be neat 0 Share this post Link to post

The track would probably still be in a decent condition after only a few years, however anyone wishing to use the lines would need to inspect the track prior to use. The biggest problem is the operation of the trains themselves. Steam locomotives are labour intensive need specialist training (a steam loco driver can take up to 10+ years to become fully competent) diesels are some what easier to operate and maintain but it's still heavy engineering, you'd need characters who know how to operate railways. It's not something you can just think "hey we can use that train to move about". Also the train in this mod is a diesel, not a steam locomotive. 0 Share this post Link to post

Also the train in this mod is a diesel, not a steam locomotive. thank you for pointing that out, how i could last for years. well with a little luck for years. and it may sound a little crazy that oh look a random guy that can work a train. i would gamble that a good number of people know how to make it at its very least stop and go. and hell they may show others how to work it. so i dont think it is that unreal that one guy outa blue could run it. and lets not rule out that well. some nut could take a big truck motor and make a hobo-makshift-railcar-thing. (technical term yes sir!) i mean i know at least 2 people that have work in rail yards and in a major rail line. (cargo) not saying they could run it but that dose open a window. much like many low tech things hydro electric damn is another example it could with many year still work, and even after that still stand many years. 0 Share this post Link to post
Monty 0 Posted May 8, 2014 Things that would suffer would be the signalling and points/switches (these allow a train to change from one track to another) do need constant maintenance otherwise there is a real risk of derailment or worse. Makeshift home made railcars could be an option as they would be light enough it wouldn't matter so much. The real problem is that the mod itself is far from perfect, and to be honest it's very buggy. What I would like to see is the railyards on the coast populated with wagons/railcars and the odd locomotive, and within the railcars where would be a chance for loot to spawn. It would be super glitchy as I don't think that the train track in arma was put there to be used this way instead it only serves as a decorative purpose. Unless you could also power-up the powerplants (this could be done on some mod i can't rememeber).
