TEAM ECHO OF THE U.S. ARMY REMNANTS

Recommended Posts

This is the background story for the original Team Echo of the U.S. Army Remnants. It was originally part of the clan thread, but as the story is relatively long and only concern six members of the group, I decided to take it out and put it in the role play section.

This is the background story in detail on how the U.S. Army Remnants got to Chernarus in the first place. Feedback is appreciated.

It was an early morning at Fort Lesley J. McNair army base, Washington DC. Birds were chirping outside the where the sun was slowly rising in the horizon. The soldiers slept tight in their bunk beds that were all lined up beside each other in the barrack. Peacefully lying in their beds sleeping, ready for the general to smack open the door at 06:00 for their daily morning routine. None of them had any clue that when they woke up, a nightmare was about to begin. Suddenly an emergency alarm was heard in the army base. All the soldiers jumped up from the beds and started putting on their clothes, while others rubbed their eyes checking the clock. It was way too early. The time said 04:47 and the date was August 2nd 2012. They were not supposed to be up for another hour for the regular morning run. This alarm did not sound familiar either. A few seconds later while the soldiers were getting their uniform on in a hurry, the general’s voice was heard through the speakers: “Everyone get in your clothes if you haven’t already, pickup your weapons and get to the base square. You have two minutes. We have a code red, I repeat, we have a state of emergency!” The general seemed panicked, and while the soldiers were suiting up they looked strangely at each other, hoping someone had heard anything about what was going on.

Around four hundred and sixty eight soldiers stood in perfect lines at the army base square, exactly two minutes later. While awaiting the general, some soldiers murmured under the loud screeching of the alarm. As it clicked off, the soldiers stood at attention as the general approached. He stood right in front of them as he yelled: “Alright everyone. I have just been in a call with the top of the police, and I was informed that possible hostiles have been spotted entering Washington DC. Who they are and what they want is unknown” The soldiers started looking around at each other and a few started mumbling to each other. Someone in the crowd mumbled ‘terrorists’ as the general interrupted “Attention!”. He continued: “The police received a phone call ten minutes ago from a very panicking woman living at the west side of Washington DC. Apparently she and many others have been eye witnesses to what they believe to be a group of bloody and fast humans…” he stopped for a second “humans eating each other… now I know this sounds crazy, but no matter how crazy it sounds, we are going to assure that nobody gets hurt.” Some soldiers were starting to wrinkle their foreheads as the general finished off: “We are splitting you all into nine teams of fifty two soldiers. Each team will assign a team leader of this operation. Here I have a map” the general lifted his arm up in the air showing the map. “This map is showing Washington DC split into nine zones. Each team gets assigned to a zone and protects the perimeter. I don’t care how you do it, as long as it’s efficient. You are ordered to shoot if necessary to protect any civilians, team mates or yourself.” While the general had been speaking, the army base secretary was in the process of running around the soldiers dividing them into the nine teams. “Am I clear?!” he screamed, as all the soldiers replied at the same time: “Sir, yes sir!” and saluted. “Then what the hell are you waiting for, get going! Team Alpha you’re coming with me, we’re taking the center perimeter around The White House, go go go!” the general finished as he ran towards the Urals followed by the fifty two soldiers on Alpha.

From this point, things were only about to go downhill. The army had barely made it out in the city before the news had got hold of the information and had broadcasted it to all the civilians. The army sent constant radio transmissions to the entire city, advising all civilians to stay indoors with locked doors and windows closed, but not many listened. This was the worst that could happen at this moment. Panic. People packed all their stuff, jumped in their cars and headed straight towards the highway out of Washington DC. Only to be met by huge traffic, that made them sit still as head targets for them. The hostiles. And it went exactly as predicted. All of the panicking civilians that had attempted to leave the city even while advised to stay, were the first to get bitten. Yes, bitten, because that was what they did, and slowly after - the hostile force was even larger.

Team Alpha sounded like it was going to be the easy team. Protecting the center square of nine formed as a three by three. You would expect that the eight other teams would take care of all hostilities before they got anywhere close to the middle. It was true to a degree. They did hold them back for quite a while, but it was not pleasant for Team Alpha hearing through the communications from the other teams what was happening. Especially not when all eight other teams, one by one either stopped replying or declared loss of the perimeter. The time was only 09:26 the same day. It had been less than five hours since they got the news, and the fifty two soldiers of Team Alpha together with the general was hiding behind bunkers and buildings at the center of Washington DC around The White House.

And suddenly it happened. Soldiers from Team Alpha that was guarding the west side of the perimeter screamed over the radio that the hostiles were approaching with running speed. And there were tons of them. Bloody and screaming they ran towards the soldiers. Some of the hostiles were even wearing the same soldier uniforms as Team Alpha. It was probably the moment in history with the most gun fire around The White House. It had only been twenty minutes since the first attack of the center perimeter when the general suddenly shouted through the radio to the remnants of Alpha to run towards The White House and get inside. West wing of Team Alpha had stopped replying and the general had just spotted an even larger hoard coming from east. They might’ve held them off decently for now, but they had nowhere near enough ammunition to keep this going for much longer.

Every single alive remnant of Team Alpha and a few survivors of the other teams were running for their lives towards The White House. The president had been escorted to NORAD only minutes after the first hostile thread had been announced, so it was a perfect hiding spot, as it was designed to protect the president from all kind of things. The general was standing at the open entrance to The White House as the soldiers, shooting backwards at the hostiles, ran into the building one by one. As soon as they thought everyone had run in, they spotted a single soldier running around two hundred meters away with a large swarm of hostiles around him. The general closed the door and locked it. “What the fuck are you doing?! You can’t just leave him out there!” Chris 'Sawyer' Hall screamed at the general. “It’s either him or all of us” the general replied while staring into Chris 'Sawyer' Hall’s eyes. “And I chose us.”

Forty two was the number. Forty two. That was the amount of soldiers that made it safely into The White House that day. Only forty two. The rest was not confirmed dead, but there was not much hope left for them. The forty two soldiers decided to call themselves USA-R, standing for United States Army Remnants. The first few weeks were scary. They all spend most of the time in the bunker under The White House, but a few started scouting through The White House, only to find out that there were no hostiles in the building. It was actually secured, and they had no way of getting in. For now at least. Countless hours were spent staring at the radio waiting for help to come. Washington DC was filled with them, and you could hear them through the walls. The White House had supplies but not a lot for forty two grown men, so after two month they had no other choice than to scout through the town.

It was like this for over a year. The date was August 26th 2013. Regularly, the soldiers had to go out in the town, scouting for food and drink, and pickup more ammunition and explosives from the army base. Washington DC was no longer the beautiful place it used to be. Explosives had been going off all over the place by the army to eliminate large groups of the hostiles, there were bullet holes in all the windows and walls and blood was smeared all over the town. The group was standing strong though, they had The White House completely secured and had only lost three solders since they took hide in The White House. The team worked pretty coordinated, controlled by the general. It was kind of like in the army, except they had all gotten closer to each other more personally. The group had even grown a bit. Over the ongoing year, small survivor groups had come by The White House screaming for help. Of course they helped. The group in The White House was in total thirty eight members of USA-R and twenty six civilians. One of the civilians was named Kurt. Kurt Anderson. He came alone, but had been through quite a lot of states since it happened. He told them something they had not expected, and he was quite confident in the statement. The president was dead. Apparently he and his escort had been attacked by the hostiles on a road while leaving The White House. That was at least what the rumors said. No one could confirm it hundred percent. The president was the last hope they had for rescue. If he was dead, then someone else had to step up and do something, because they were all getting tired of sitting here waiting for help that might never come. The town was running low on supplies and the future was looking dark. They needed to secure a future. The general had to step up and make some drastic decisions.

It was over a year later since the outbreak. The date was February 14th 2014, and the outbreak was still going. Many had expected help from other countries only weeks after the beginning, but everything was dead. No radio transmissions and nothing. A message from the general, was quickly spread to all the remaining soldiers and the rest of the survivors in The White House. "The rest of the world is also under attack, and we might be the largest group of survivors in the entire world. If we wish for a future, we need to find an end to this and continue something new. If we wait any longer, we are either all going to die, or end up being the only survivors left on the planet".

And so it began. The White House was the only building in Washington DC that had survivors in it. There was thirty nine members left of USA-R and thirty two survivors that had tagged along the way. In desperation the general had come up with an idea. A goal. A mission. It was called New Nation. New Nations goal was to find an end to this apocalypse. It was unclear at the time what this could be, but that was the target. New Nation would be ruled by the general of USA-R, the previous general of Fort Lesley J. McNair army base. It would not just take back all the states of America, but take over the entire world. Find a way to give all survivors of the world no other chance of survival, than to join in as a citizen of the New Nation. A very large goal to work after, something that could take multiple years, maybe decades.. hell.. even hundred of years. The only problem was that he had no idea where to start. It had to be done soon, as the remaining soldiers of the army and the other survivors in The White House was dying out slowly. The general had daily meetings with remaining member of the army and the other survivors, to try find an idea worth trying - to get this to an end.

Five days later, the current Team Leader of the USA-R, Chris 'Sawyer' Hall asked for a meeting with the general in the presidents old bunker under The White House. "I think I have an idea for the solution" he said, as he got the generals attention. "We are running low on ammunition for our men. We have used most of it to kill all the hostiles within a kilometer of The White House. I think it would be safe to say that as for right now, The White House is safe, and it's especially safe in this bunker. My suggestion is that we split the remaining soldiers into five teams with six soldiers in each. Each team will have an assigned team leader, that will guide them through their mission". "And what is the mission?" the general curiously interrupted. "That is what I was about to say. We need to find the cure. I've spend the last evenings working out on a world map, the top five most interesting places to check out. Some of them are really far away, but it's our best chance of finding it".

Chris 'Sawyer' Hall unfolded a map and placed it on the table as the general looked at it. "The teams will be called Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta and Echo. The top priority for checking is in Texas at The Texas Medical Center. We will send Team Alpha there to set-up an outpost and search for information either through papers, or surviving medics, professors or anyone who can help us find the cure. Our main priority is to get the cure, not rescue civilians, so we will not care about them for now." Chris 'Sawyer' Hall said. "Bravo will be send to Albury Base Hospital in Albury on the exact same mission. Charlie goes to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital in India. Delta travels to Germany to the University Medical Center Freiburg, once again, for the exact same mission."

He continued: "Last but not least, we got Team Echo. My team. I will be leading this group together with the guy I trust the most, Derrick O'Connor. We are going into Russia. Now I don't know much about Russia's current situation, or how it's going up there, but we do believe there is a chance they have the cure there and just don't want to help the rest of the world. I am bringing five others of the soldiers as well. We plan to set-up outpost in Moscow to begin with." The general started nodding while showing a little smile. "It sure sounds like you got this planned out. How will we stay in contact with each other, and what will happen to the rest of us here at The White House?" the general asked. Chris 'Sawyer' Hall replied: "As I said, we've cleared out most of the hostiles in Washington. There is enough food and water in the bunker to last the rest of you for at least two years. We will eight soldiers at home together with you and the other survivors to protect The White House still. We will stay in contact over the radio, we found a bunch here the other day at the army base. If everything go as planned, we should be back within a couple of months. Hopefully with the cure". "And I presume you are using the presidents five military helicopters on the roof to get to your destination?" the general asked. "Yes, that is the plan. We have a large back up of fuel just outside the left wing of The White House. We are able to bring a lot of fuel on board, so we can refuel while flying. If my calculations are right, we would not need to land at any time, and should be able to safely make it to our destination." Chris 'Sawyer' Hall replied. "That sounds like a plan worth going for. It is important that you report news to us here at The White House every day. We need to work as an organized team to make this work. When are you planning to leave?" the general asked. "We will stay in contact as much as possible. The two soldiers I leave home are hand picked and are able to keep everything under control. I will need to quickly divide the teams, brief everyone about the plan, but I believe we should be able to leave in a couple of days." Chris 'Sawyer' Hall replied. "Perfect" the general said, and smiled. He was happy that the rest of the soldiers had to go do all the dirty work, while he remained in this so called safe haven.

Things did not go as planned to begin with. It took Chris 'Sawyer' Hall over a month to prepare the teams and prepare the last plans for the journey. It was April 2nd 2014. Since March 29th, Alpha, Bravo, Charlie and Delta had been sent on their way, Echo was the last team to leave The White House. So far everything had gone good for the other teams. They had deployed successfully and was in the process of setting up camp. Team Echo was suppose to leave at 05:00 PM the same day.

The time approached and Chris 'Sawyer' Hall got up to the last helicopter with his five other soldiers. The engine started up and the five soldiers jumped in, leaving one spot for Chris 'Sawyer' Hall, the team leader of Team Echo, as the pilot. The president approached the helicopter as the rotor was spinning. "Good luck, Sawyer, I truly hope and wish that you will succeed this mission. A final word of advice, don't let anything get in the way of finding the cure. The faster we find it, the more lives we can save in the far end. Do what's necessary to succeed this mission, and there will be great reward at the end" he said. Chris 'Sawyer' Hall nodded as he smiled, shook the generals hand and stepped into the helicopter. "Time for take-off!"

Team Echo had been flying for a good forty eight hours as they approached something that looked like Russia. "Alright boys, it appears we are moving closer and closer to the border of Russia. Once we get in, we will fly towards Moscow and set up camp" Chris 'Sawyer' Hall said. A few moments later a large amount of beeps started sounding from the panel of the helicopter in different paces. "What the... I think someone is sending us a morse code... fuck fuck fuck... I can't listen to it while I'm concentrating on flying. O'Conner come up here for a second!". Derrick O'Connor switched seats with one of the other soldiers, as he began to listen to the morse code. "What does it say?" Chris 'Sawyer' Hall asked. "It... hmm.. let me hear it once again, it sounds like it's repeating itself to us" Derrick O'Connor replied while concentrating. "It says that we are in Russian territory, and if we do not turn around we will be..." Derrick O'Connor said with a sudden stop. "We will be what?" Chris 'Sawyer' Hall yelled."We will be met with missiles Derrick O'Connor said with a gasp as he looked at Chris 'Sawyer' Hall. "Hold your seats, we're turning around!" Chris 'Sawyer' Hall yelled to the other soldiers.

Panicking, they got the helicopter turned around, and about five minutes later they made it out of Russian territory, and the morse code stopped. "I don't know what the fuck that was. That could be empty threats. Let's not take any risks though. Our coordinates suggest that we are somewhere above a country called Chernarus. Let's land here for the night and discuss our options in the morning.

They landed the helicopter close to some water near a town called Kabanino. The helicopter still had enough fuel to make a long trip in the morning, so Team Echo went around five hundred meters into a forest to setup a couple of tents. There was no one around the area to be seen. Before they went to sleep in the tents, Chris 'Sawyer' Hall pullet Derrick O'Connor to the side and said: "I'm not sure what we should do. I've heard a bit about this place called Chernarus, and I believe there were some medical centers around here. We have the option to stay here in Chernarus for now with the same plan as before, or leave for Russia in the morning. It's a big risk though. As Derrick O'Connor was about to reply, the sound of the helicopter engine was heard from the distance. Chris 'Sawyer' Hall started sprinting towards where he landed the helicopter, only to see it hovering five meters above the ground with a group of people inside. As he watched it fly out over the ocean, Derrick O'Connor came up behind him and said: "Doesn't seem like we have a choice anyway". Chris 'Sawyer' Hall had fell down on his knees as he looked out over the water after the helicopter.
