kakans way of making a settlement

After getting numerous request of making a guide i decided to start with some basic knowledge about the Editor.

Before we start you will have to get a few tools, as there are a few different ways to do this.

OPTION 1

Launching in through DayzRP

What you will have to do here is download the following files.

After you have done that you make a copy of DayzRP that could be found where you installed Arma 2 Operation arrowhead

For me the file could be found at:

C:/Program(x86)/Steam/SteamApps/common/Arma 2 Operation [email protected]

Now right click the @DayZRP folder and make a copy and name it to whatever you wish, I named mine DayZRuP

After you have done this click on the new folder you just made and it should look something like this:

Now grab the addons folder you just downloaded and extract them there and overwrite all the files

OPTION 2

* Launching it with MAP_EU tool

Download the Editor Update Tool, this is the one we use on DayZRP and will unlock all the MAP_EU objects that will be necessary when you are making a settlement but more on that later

The downside of this is that you now don't have all the objects that we have on DayZRP but will give you most of the stuff that you need.

Now go back to where you installed Arma 2 Operation arrowhead, mine is at

C:/Program(x86)/Steam/SteamApps/common/Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead/

now extract the @MAP and Key into that folder

*The only downside of doing this than option 1 is that when you launch this mod the skins/vehicles/weapons that are being used can not be spawned in the editor

You can find more information on how to launch a mod folder here . I use ArmA II Launcher for this but it works with Dayzcommander and steam see here


Okay now lets build something!

When you have launched your new mod the first thing you have to do is Press Ctrl+S, now you should have the single player menu. After that press the Editor and choose the Chernarus map and click Continue.

The first thing you will have to learn is to place down an Unit. The Unit in Arma can both work as an object and as a player

So make sure that you have an Unit chosen, either by pressing F1 or pressing the unit on the right hand side.

Now double click anywhere on the map and a box that looks something like this should show:

For now lets just focus on two things.

The first one is to make sure that you have selected BLUFOR, it's the first tab that's called Side:

The second step is to make sure that under the tab Control: it says Player

after you have inserted the Unit press ok and a blue dot with a red circle around it should appear

If you check the right hand side again a button called Preview should be visible, if we press this button you will be put into the game as the unit you just placed

This was easy! right?

So now we can start to build stuff, to place down an object make sure once again that you have selected an unit on the right hand side or press F1.

Once again the box will appear and now instead of putting down a bluefor we will choose an EMPTY side.

All objects can be found under EMPTY, and this is only visible once you have placed down a player unit. This is a useful site if you are looking for a specific class name, unfortunately this site does not have all of the objects that are currently in the game

Now lets spawn us an ammo box. First you will have to go under Class and then choose "Ammo", once you have done that you can move over to the tab called "unit" and in there all weapons in Arma could be found.

I will spawn in an "US Basic Weapons" box, after i have chosen that i press ok and then hit preview. If you placed out the object close to you then it should be visible once you get in game.

Now take a break and start to spawn different objects under EMPTY so you can get used to where things are.

to move around an object all you have to do is press it on the map and it should now be highlighted in an darker shade of orange and if you want to move around the object all you have to do is hold down the left mouse button and drag it around.

If you want to rotate the object in any direction there is two ways of doing this..

Either you double click the object and use your cursor and click around thee Azimuth circle, Or enter the specific number you want to have

Or you can highlight the Object by left clicking it and hold down the Shift key while you move your mouse.

Part I

Here is some tips for map makers that i have learned:

If you want to change the height of an object enter this code into the Initialization field.

this setpos [getpos this select 0, getpos this select 1, 1]; 

Now when you hit preview the object should be 10m of the ground, you can also have it go negative like -1.23

If you are having problem with adding an object and its not straight once you see it in game add this code.

this setvectorup [0,0,1];

You can use this code to set the vector [x, y, z] coordinations, so if you want to place an object upside down you will have [0,0,-1];

You can also put setpos and setvector up in the Initialization field if you want it both to stand straight and have another height on the object

this setpos [getpos this select 0, getpos this select 1, 1]; this setvectorup [0,0,1];

Part II

Placing objects in water is a little more trickier as the map of Chernarus uses dynamic waves. So to beat that you will have to use this:

this setposATL [getposATL this select 0, getposATL this select 1, 30]; this setvectorup [0,0,1];

As you may see the setvectorup does work here to, so if you want to level out an object keep that in
