Appeal Invalid kill (KOS) - 7 Days, Char reset

Link to the source of punishment (report/post):

Why the verdict is not fair:  So it seems the major point against me here is that I shot at the corpse and didnt RP with shroud before shooting him. On my end it was just glitchy textures and i thought interacting with it would fix the issue as i explained to Jamie in the helpdesk, even so shooting a corpse isn't against the rules and i shouldn't be punished for something like that. A major point is that I had defender rights on cerberus after being shot by bobby. Therefore i dont need to RP with shroud before i shoot him during the same firefight. The reasoning i was given for my defender rights being invalidated was that i was part of the attackers already. Wich isnt true as i only sided with people after i was shot. Im not on green mountains roster, i wasnt affiliated with occelari or the yellow armbands. I was just Nikki trying to see if home was okay and if i can call a place my home, what takes away my right to see if its okay.

Additional statements/comments explaining your point of view: I only called the occelari and yellow armbands my allies because i was shot, they werent before i was shot because i had no idea who was actually messing around up there.

What would you like to achieve with this appeal: Ban lifted, Points removed, character rollback (if possible)

What could you have done better?: I could have made a clear initiation even though i wasnt planning on initiating unless needed, i was initiated on and thats why i shot back and also what lead me to kill shroud.

Hello @Kamaro50,

A separate team of staff has reviewed your appeal and come to the conclusion of denial.

In short, you approached an active firefight, inserted yourself into it, and began shooting (whether at a person or corpse is irrelevant), at which point the opposite side in this active firefight began returning fire.  You did this, as you mention in your appeal, as a dynamic player with no real affiliation in this firefight. At this point in time, you are presenting yourself as an active combatant in this firefight, despite not having any rights. You then cite Bobby's attempt at killing you as the point you gain defender rights on him and, by extension, the entirety of Cerberus' roster. However, this is where you err, as those defender rights you gained are not valid. Regardless of who you were siding with, if anybody, before you were shot, you were still actively and knowingly shooting in a firefight that you knew you had no rights in and we can't exactly fault Bobby for shooting you here, as the only thing protecting you from him would be rule armor gained from ruleplaying around how kill rights work.

Bearing all of that in mind, you do not have valid defender rights on Cerberus as a result of being shot by Bobby. Walking into an active gunfight and shooting at things is not a valid way to gain defender rights; if anything, it's bordering on baiting or, had you died, NVFL. Should you have wanted to get involved with this firefight, you should have initiated. Should you have wanted to stay uninvolved, you should not have literally entered the compound, gun-in-hand. Firefights are already chaotic as is and combatants have a lot to keep track of, both rule-wise and gameplay wise. In the future, we suggest you not make that any harder and remove any ambiguity from your intentions.

With that said,
Appeal denied. Ban and points remain.

Signed by myself & @Hofer
