Item Shop Exchanges?

I was just wondering if it is possible to have items exchanged for something that is of equal value. I bought the shemagh when it first came out and and used it twice but would rather have the one that you can convert into different face masks.

That's not possible. People would try to exchange old items they no longer use for something new and exciting instead of buying the new thing. As you can imagine, that would hurt sales for newly added items if you could just exchange items like that.
