The question says it all, could our DayZRP developers implement a craftable Improvised Cooking Tripod to the server's mod?

Here's how I would go about implementing it for the time being.

  • I would ask  @Watchman to create a copy of the current Cooking Tripod item, then re-texture it with a wooden texture.
  • Then ask @Ducky to make it into a crafting recipe. Perhaps using 3x Short Stick + 1x Rope to craft it. I say 15 seconds is a fair amount of time to craft it. The usual animation should do nicely.
  • It would also be convenient if it only took up 1x6 slots instead of 1x9 slots, so that players can fit it in smaller backpacks. Either that or allow it to be disassembled with a sharp object (knife) for the return of your rope.
  • Then implement it in the next patch! Yay!

But Camo, if it's made of wood it will catch on fire!

Well, don't be silly now, it's not like it's directly on the flame. It's a cooking tripod, it hangs above the flames, only the cooking pot remains touching the flames!

Yes. Why is this not a thing already? In fact, why can't we put the pot on the embers like you can in real life? Cooking would be much easier than how it is now and more people will do it. Great suggestion @Camo

Great idea, can finally actually boil water without needing ridiculous inventory size.

+1 Good idea.

Will promote people to start playing the bushcraft / survivalist playstyle more.

+1 Good idea but I would prob. go with a steel wire instead of a rope considering the rope would burn

I preferred rope because it's craftable. That and rope is commonly used in bushcraft survival .

Rope wouldn't necessarily burn either. Look at how the natives created and used spitroast mechanisms.

+1 Great idea. I always wanted to use the cooking tripod for RP but due to its size I never pick it up. Having a craftable cooking tripod would increase its usage in peoples camps for sure.

I can see your point and it does make sence

This would make the regular tripod useless, since everyone could just craft the improvised one. It would be too easy and it would be built everywhere.

It wouldn't necessarily make the regular tripod useless. It just gives Bushcraft survival-types an option to get crafty. It's for convienience and it's realistic.  It's not like we're crafting high-tier items like Fabric and Scissors did in the past. It's just used simply for cooking.

There's more cons than pros for carrying a Cooking Tripod,.

  • It takes up 1x9 slots in a bag. Not many nomadic-type players have a large enough bag to carry one.
  • You have to find one, and right now some reason they don't seem to spawn in Hunting/Camp loot-tables anymore, only tool sheds in towns.
  • Alternatives: Carrying 8kg of rocks in your backpack to make an oven.
  • Alternatives: Carrying a obnoxiously heavy and over-sized pickaxe to make an oven. (Since Ice-picks were removed from the game.)
  • Alternatives: Forced to look for specific houses with fireplaces. Where are you going to find such a house in the deep woods around the map?
  • Alternatives: Get lucky and find a suitable Gas Stove and Propane Canister, which frankly don't last very long. Takes up a lot of space.
  • Alternatives: Use a long stick, which isn't very efficient. Also will require an axe and/or specific tree to gain a Long Stick, since 1.06.

One of the biggest quirks I disliked about cooking food in-game is the fact I can't just place a frying pan or cooking pot onto the embers/flame of the campfires.

Even if it did, what's the harm? It's just a cooking tripod, it really only exists for RP purposes anyway.

This is a good idea but if it is added, the durability on it should be low making the normal one superior over the craftable one.
